In my opinion, if anyone cares about (which I doubt, even me) mathematicians don't really discover or prove anything with their models that was not already known or suspected. All those equations and measurements do is define boundaries of relationships in the physical world and that is a very necessary and useful thing. The real genius is the one who described the physical world and explained how and why it does what it does. The mathemetics part is what we use to take those ideas and concepts to the next level and use them in the physical world to create products, technologies, or effect predictable and measured changes in the world aound us. Math does not create, it only describes that is the point I am trying to express.
I recently heard a good quote from a hockey player in an interview and he said that knowledge is knowing that tomato is a fruit, but wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad, I thought you might enjoy 😄
