In order to properly preload the front wheel bearings, the center axle bolts are torqued really high. Running the car without the front axles will ruin the front wheel baring and you also loose ABS, since the Sensor picks up Signal of a Ring on the front axles. Idk if it's been stated beforehand or not, might save you a headache down the road. The bolts that fasten the front CV axles to the transmission, as well as the rear CV axles into the rear differential, are not a torx or hex head bolt. They're a "triple square" bolt.

Hello from Puerto Rico🇵🇷 I owned a 1.8t MK4 jetta with 500hp and it rips and it is really reliable too I’m really excited for this built i’ve never seen a RWD 1.8 built 🔥😍
@@hondalife5125 What people don't get is that the FWD models came with a different engine, AWD was standard with the TT models. So yeah, 'FWD to twin turbo' does actually make sense if it's not taken completely out of context.
@@dyIanVII Exactly, if you are talking about 3000GT or Galant you can refer to Twin turbo conversion as whole process of putting the twin turbo engine with its gearbox (which is awd) and other bits and pieces.
My first comment to you so hope you read it lol. From past experience converting the audi quattro to rwd, you should also disassemble the front exterior drive shafts and then re-install it in the wheel bearing / center hub, otherwise the front wheel bearings will split into two parts and you will drop the wheels fairly quickly which will be very messy result . Good luck with the build! Edit, someone also wrote the same thing, so yes this is true story.
VW guy here. The second you said the axles were held in by Torx bolts I cringed. I was hoping they wouldn’t round out too badly before you realized they were Triple-Square. So cool to see a VAG build on the channel! Would love to come out from Michigan and run my mk7 or mk2 with you and Molly sometime. Love the channel!
It always amazes me to see that, not matter how rusty the car is, the interior of the mechanical parts are still shiny and look brand new. i love the see that contrast
@8:25 It never was an open diff, that's a torsen, if one side is unloaded it locks You could have literally just unbolted the front axles, that's how we do it in the summer
@@riccardo1796 torsen isn't really LSD, if you give zero load to one axle it will just spin like open diff. If one axle is getting less traction then second then it will torque bias the axle which has more traction (and wants to spin slower then first) with more torque. Nothing locks in torsen, the unique (sort of double spider wheels) just work opposite as normal differential (until almost zero load is given to one or other side)
Please keep those 5 spoke borbet wheels on the teal one. They are awesome, super strong wheels. and as others have said, you HAVE to run the empty outer CV stubs up front for the wheel bearings to stay together. DO NOT EVEN ROLL IT WITHOUT THEM THEY WILL FALL APART AND THE HUB WILL FALL OUT. also when you're welding spider gears, weld them to the housing as well as to each other. Much stronger that way.

Btw early Quattro car had a lockable center diff which you could lock with a button next to the e-brake/handbrake. Fits into modern Quattros too and makes this reversable as the rear diff was also locked automatically when the car detected slip. With good power this set up is pretty well driftable. Especially in the snow that's a ton of fun
Dont worry about the oil in the rear diff, you`l break somethin long before the oil is due for change, an then just swap the side panel holding the nut
You can buy a long version 1/2" drive triple square socket specifically for vw/ audi axles. Makes things worlds easier. Schley Products (sp) makes a good one. Cool build, its definitely different.
Question: could you ditch the center diff interely (skip welding it) and just make a longer driveshaft to fill in the space? Seems like it would save weight.
That thing will get blown at a mere load you just see. Those things are designed to run in AWD mode and those cars are mostly FWD so Jared will have to get a proper trans pretty soon
just subbed. Im stoked to see how she turns out. If you need help along the way please feel free to ask and if you need a tune for the 1.8t when you are done let me know.
Don't set the brake clean on fire. Not needed and VERY toxic when burned. To save money you can fill a hand held pressure sprayer with acetone and hose your parts down. To de-grease use mineral spirits in the pressure sprayer. Walmart has them for $10 in the gardening department by the weed sprayers.
