Fantastic cars! I have a GSi V6 with the manual gearbox ready for it's 400 000km service and still drives like a dream. It has it's quirks by now, but in great condition for the work it's done. Engine is 'n Buick 3800 sourced from Holden Australia. I'm slowly working on restoring another one as well.

My dad has one of these. He bought it from a friend for R5000 😂 It had some issues, but he fixed it up nicely with genuine Chevy parts. 3.8L V6 and she purrs... It feels comfortable, but has this "raw" feel to it. You can't take chances around a corner, as it does have quite some power and obviously the suspension is not as reliable, compared to modern cars. Beautiful car though, in and out. Electric windows too!

    You spot on Niyaaz
I inherited mine when I was 19 in 2012 from my grand dad , which was the 1st owner of his 200I gle manual, look the exact same ,just motor an wheel difference
I was the 4th an final one to inherit this guy, I put on the CD 3.8 wheels which looks daamn good on these cars, with freeflow aswell, that car did around 4-5 trips to jhb each year from the day of purchase til around 2010 , had 438 000km on the clock when I recieved it, I can say these cars are the most reliable , the manual gearbox was to date the best gearbox I had felt in all the cars iv driven by far, note by, the gearbox did 440 000km ,never been opened an never had n gearbox oil change ,until I felt the necessary surgery was needed on my baby to keep her in the condition she was in..motor has never been opened or worked on since we had her, service was up to date all times
On freeways ,loong stretches , hill climbing I can tell you at 120km/ph 3500rpm 5th gear i'd pass my friends with their 20valves accelerating to speeds of 160km-170kms on a uphill without dropping n gear
@220kms 6200rpm the engine felt like it wanted more an more cutting out at 6500rpm easy, and at that speed in this car ,it ddnt feel close to the speed I was doing, the comfort was incredible, stable at high speeds
I made many many people pull their words back who had bad comments about this beauty's
This is truly one of the great classics

WOW!! this brought a smile to my dial. Growing up I always admired the maroon coloured ones. The 2.2 CLI Auto was my first car, light blue in colour, had it for 12years. Extremely strong and reliable. I ended up taking the wheels, spoilers and side skirts from the 380 CD V6 and put them on my 2.2, which made it really sporty. At the petrol stations taxi drivers always asked me don't I wanna sell.
I was in a head on crash with a merc, I still believe the build of this car saved me from either being in a wheelchair or possibly dead. I had it repaired and was good to go. This car was a dream to drive long distance.

my dad had one for years, a white auto as well. It handled like a beast , my first driving lesson was drifting this massive v6 around a soccer field, he often took it to the old zwartkops track and gave it stick. Thanks for the vid, brings back memories.

@scottbaird8887 Holden did that much work to it for the vn/vp/vr/vt/vy commodores. There wasn't much of the engine that was Buick. By the time Holden introduced the ecotech version it was virtually 100 percent aussie. This engine started life to be front wheel drive.

@@marcpaola1371 they were still a Buick V6 until the Ecotec which is based off it's architecture. It wouldn't exist without the Buick V6. The Holden grey was a Buick design and the red, blue and black were based off the grey.

    Not quite a Chevy engine
Its the australian Holden 3.8L V6 from the 1988-1991 holden commodore V6 which originally started as a Buick engine in america but underwent a bit of change for the Australian cars
The wheels are actually off a 1988-1991 Holden commodore SS (SS is a super sports model which had a 5.0L V8 instead of the 3.8L V6)
Here in Australia that 3.8 is known to be very strong when you maintain them
However the 1991-1995 version was much stronger and was better on fuel and had more power and torque

That would be can be considered to be an old Lumina as its known as the Holden Commodore in Australia/ Lumina and came in v8 option and and the 38L. South Africa rebadged the Holden Commodore as a Chev Lumina not sure why as its Designed in Germany (GM germany) and engineered in Australia (GM Australia)and manufactured. All under the name GM hence parts from all around the world. Very popular in Australia in the v8 and HSV v8 option. The Australian models where slightly engineered in a different way for their market. They also had face lift models which s.a did not recieve. Some models came with nissan skyline engines. Hence South Africa had a limited run.

These cars were built due to the market change early nineties as opel did not have big engine car at that point .
It was built from different chev/opel parts left over from others . Around 3000 made in cd/gsi models. The engine came form a Buick in America .
Etc etc . I have just required a burgundy 3.8 ie 3speed with 113k on clock 2 owner car since 94.
The cd model was made last 92/93 4speed then 94 the ie 3speed was made .
