Finally A series that will make me relax instead of yelling at my screen because Chris forgot something oh wait it's gonna happen again, isn't it... Fuck
I mean, the game has been out for almost no time at all and he knows next to nothing about the game going in. Let's give the guy a break and enjoy the video because - and don't you lie - it's pretty damn enjoyable!
Man, I've checked out a couple channels looking for a solid No Man's Sky series to follow. Cheers for being the first person who thinks logically and seems to have some gaming experience!
Get yourself some droids and name them C3POdd and Odd2D2. Planets: Alpha Locksley, Polo Prime, Shen's Gift, Judas Tobias, etc... Now have fun, but don't let this get in the way of you know what. Keep up the great work
Chris way to go, man! I've been watching your walkthroughs off and on for a few years and I'm so glad you're getting 6 digit views on your videos now, and getting the freaking games mailed to you by devs! That's awesome! You never fail to make me laugh and I just wanted to say thanks for the chuckles over the years
This video is why I love watching your content. You take the time to understand and explain everything... Already watched several videos from several youtubers and they all want to rush to do things and miss a lot of things (eg. something they need to gather). Then they wonder why they cant do something. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Hey, Chris. In case you don't know, the save points don't only save your progress and act as respawns they also save your discoveries to the ATLAS. Like if you go to a shelter or an outpost and don't save it you will have to rediscover it if you die.
Thank god a RUclipsr with common sense I watched starsnipe walk around for a hour looking for heridium and it was right next to him not to name it took him 3 episodes just to start flying
@42:26 "Hold Artoo to take off! WHOA!"... man, I feel ya bro, the number of times I got off planet hitching a ride with an astromech as it got sucked up into a Incorp X-wing fighter... I have to travel steerage, I'm wanted in 3 systems.
This game, man. Just like with Wildstar, everytime I see something for it, see it's stunning vistas, I remember John Smith from Disney's Pocahontas singing: "All of my life, I have searched for a land like this one! A wilder, more challenging country, I couldn't design! Hundreds of dangers await, and I don't plan to miss one! In a land I can claim, a land I can tame, the greatest adventure is mine!" lol XP
This will be awesome Odd. Looking foward to your adventures! If I played this game I would be bored in 2 minutes, with you playing I know the possibilities are endless. Wish I had your patience. Good luck with the series!
I am so happy you're paying this game, Chris! I literally looked at this game and immediately wanted you to LP it so thank thank thank you so much! I'm so excited!
Hell yeah! I've been following this game for years and it's such a joy to see Odd having a go at it! Just a note: For anyone wondering about stuff, Hello Games has stated that they plan to add numerous features into the game, such as Base Building, Player owned, build able Freighters. (There's even been rumors of a future addition of new multiplayer features. Co-op parties? Factions?)
Just to point out (though you may have already realized). Don't trust the waypoint pointing towards heridium. It just randomly selects a bit of heridium on the planet (I assume within a certain radius) but it is entirely possible to find it closer to you rather than walking all the way to the waypoint.
Man, I really like your play style. Differently from other gameplays I saw, you care about discover and explore, which are the main points of NMS. Keep up the good work. +1 subscriber
I honestly thought the same (see tweet here twitter.com/Christopher_Odd/status/763004547744890880), and then I realized that since everything is randomly generated anyways, it's not gonna be a huge issue.
Yeah, but the concept is the same, and the game mechanics are too. You are right though, it's not going to be ruined in a major way or anything. It's just that experiencing and figuring out things for the first time is kind of a one time deal :D
The texture pop-in effects and issues alone are enough to make me happy to wait for the PC version. They're distracting as hell while flying, and I couldn't believe it when they happened *after* Chris landed. I mean, there's no guarantee that it'll be fixed in the PC version too, but hopefully it'll at least be configurable.
Great start, but was disappointed when you turned back from the Drop Pod. Those contain inventory space upgrades for your suit, so you'll want to scan for shelters at every sensor station and seek them out regularly. :D
This was a great first episode, you could really feel the excitement and wonder this game has to offer. I am looking forward to seeing more. Thanks Mr.Odd =)
Please someone reply. Why does no mans sky have so many negative reviews and people are hating on no mans sky? Im confused it looks amazing on this video? thank you.
Goblin Agar Cause it's not exactly how it was advertised. Sony rushed hellogames to release the game so they've had to release updates for things we were told we might be getting in the base game. It's not hellogames' fault.
Dude name the planets as you see fit. My recommendation would be to name the planets that you like (has nice resources, nice views, okay settlements, etc.) differently (ex. An Emerill-rich planet might be called "Emerill Mine"). Ps. If you see giant green stones, mine that shit cuz they give you a lot of cash when sold.
dude those things with green backgrounds are meant for trading you don't have to name everything to upload your multitool is your bestfriend, is literally be your pickaxe and your sword those orange beacons are meant to be used only once. keyword: meant *goes on a rant*
yeah dark green ones are either for selling or trading (though trading can be rare at times). the beacons were intended to be used only once but you can create bypass chips over and over again to locate as many other signals (monolith, shelter, etc.) as you want.
You interacted with a plant that gave you hazard bonuses then named a mineral after that??? or did you think you'd interacted with a mineral and it gave you those bonuses?
Why are playstation players so... I don't know how to put it. But at least he reads everything, puts him lightyears ahead of the other let's play players.
I agree with your last statement, but for the first one, in his defense, I think it's the console that messed him up, he's done some awesome lets plays. How come he doesn't have more subscribers, I don't know. Maybe he needs to derp and scream more? argue with a monitor for 20 minutes? Pewd's gone so far past crap south park, he's come around again for another lap.
For some reason this is reminding me of the planet exploration and resource mining in the first Mass Effect game. I wonder if there's a Shifty Looking Cow out there somewhere?
Just wanted to point out that when you mined that emeril, your inventory was full, meaning none of the emeril was collected. It also appears to destroy the resource when you don't have room.
One thing i must say when examining a species gender is actually genus. From what i saw the asymptotic are the base/common of the species and your "finner" was an exotic or mutation from the base. Cant wait to see more on PC! Also if you find something in the water and it looks like a cow name it Aquamoo :D cause its a cow under water!
You should actually go inside the buildings in the outposts. They have many goodies and collectibles inside them, no reason to just ignore them completely. ... nevermind you noticed it. Though as a tip you might want to keep your personal inventory clean and instead transfer stuff to your ship more often. You wasted those Emiril crystals because you had to place to store them.
I have to wait till the 12th to play it, because that is when it comes out on PC. I recently found your channel and I'm loving the style of it. I record myself, and love to watch your vids! Normally when I do series I don't watch other people playing the game I am so I don't see spoilers. But even though I'm going to record this I still want to watch your series! I love your content! So I'm excited for your series!
Hestia Alpha - A volcanic mining planet that is rich with resources. While the crust has stabilized to support life, the daylight is hot enough to cause a dangerous environment. Many of the wildlife has adapted towards this harsher climate, having grown features to help regulate or control their own body temperature. While rich with Plant life and hospitable, the lack of abundant rare resources inevitably caused the mining planet to become abandoned. I think I'll be keeping a Documentary of my planets I discover in my own personal game. Just for some fun.
When you start on the PC do something like Planet 1 - [Name] than Planet 2 - [Name] Solar System 1 - [Name] and Galaxy 1 [Name] I hear it is really hard to find your way back but a naming system like this maybe help you keep track better.
Asymptotic is a species that matures at different ages based on its sexual dimorphism, members of the larger sex mature later in life than members of the smaller sex, members of the larger sex mature much before their full size. Some bird species produce gametes at the same age, but males usually delay plumage growth (The Fins) until they are of an older age (J Stamps and V. V. Krishnan 1997). Basically Asymptotic means fully grown, and the asymptotic finner is likely to be the female version based on the lack of fins when it is fully grown And the one with the fins is male and still growing. - Zoology Student Basically this games attention to detail is astonishing.

Its the same as Minecraft, eventually minecraft infinite world stops.
Might want to think about some resource naming conventions. Naming something that gives you protection "hazard" and a harmless plant "flame from hell" might get very confusing to you later after naming many other things. Especially if you find other things that really are dangerous to you. Just saying...
It appears this game would greatly benefit from more races, NPCs, (optional) multiplayer hubworlds, as well as a grater amount of variables to play around with in planetary features as well as crafting. To be able to stumble upon smaller settlements (or build your own settlements/bunkers/farms) and ancient ruins from ancient civilisations would be cool. A more advanced trade system and local governments with their own laws and agendas would be a welcome feature too. For what is a space exploration game without, characters, diplomacy and things to actually worth exoloring? Unrealised potential.
At 18:30 the plant provided hazard protection not the rock. You didn't seem to notice the blue plant. Edit: add. you noticed the plant later. seems like it's a game to take your time, at least on a peaceful planet.
Found out by watching other YT'ers that there's a bit of a bug where things like height and weight and things are switched around. Also Asymptotic apparently means "(of a condition or a person) producing or showing no symptoms" according to google.
Not the same creature. Different variations of the same species. Much like variants of birds or wildcats. And the fauna will show in a different section
Chris, may I make a suggestion for one of the future series? How about This Is the Police? This is kind of the PD management game, but with well-crafted story. I don't know if you like these types of games, but I sure do recommend it.
This was instantly my favorite game of all time
1: No Man's Sky
2: Mass Effect 2
3: Overwatch
4: Warframe
Warframe
+Wiper Fluid Warframe- no man sky(;
Akil E. I love that game so much, Ive spent over 1,000 hours in it
More like Grindframe, fam.
I like those games aswell but that's a very unique list, don't see those games to much
Finally
A series that will make me relax
instead of yelling at my screen because Chris forgot something
oh wait
it's gonna happen again, isn't it...
Fuck
It's inevitable.
+ChristopherOdd you didn't go into the monolith!! D:
IT HAS BEGUN
Not even 10 minutes in and i'm already yelling at Chris to stop overheating the multi-tool
I mean, the game has been out for almost no time at all and he knows next to nothing about the game going in. Let's give the guy a break and enjoy the video because - and don't you lie - it's pretty damn enjoyable!
How about naming the planet Odd World. Cool game reference and channel reference built into one.
What an... odd... suggestion.
That's an awesome idea! I love the oddworld games :)
I'd vote for that, cool name ^^
+Nero Mystyra Oddworld that little one leg alien that used to have furry dog like shits that you could set loose on people haha
If he names it Odd World then those weird creatures have to be called Abes.
finally! i have been waiting for a more careful, organized, and observant youtuber to start playing this game
Man, I've checked out a couple channels looking for a solid No Man's Sky series to follow. Cheers for being the first person who thinks logically and seems to have some gaming experience!
It's amazing to me that these developers came from making Joe Danger motorcycle games to this grand scale creation. What an incredible feat.

No matter what, this guy just gets better and better when it comes to commentary
10/10 future very big name youtuber
Hey, Chris. In case you don't know, the save points don't only save your progress and act as respawns they also save your discoveries to the ATLAS. Like if you go to a shelter or an outpost and don't save it you will have to rediscover it if you die.
Finally someone who understands what to do. mr odd always delivers without stupidity
Thank god a RUclipsr with common sense I watched starsnipe walk around for a hour looking for heridium and it was right next to him not to name it took him 3 episodes just to start flying
Everyone has been waiting for this game to come out. I've been waiting to watch @christopherodd play it!
"Down to the littlest thing ..." FIRES LASER TO MELT IT
@42:26 "Hold Artoo to take off! WHOA!"... man, I feel ya bro, the number of times I got off planet hitching a ride with an astromech as it got sucked up into a Incorp X-wing fighter... I have to travel steerage, I'm wanted in 3 systems.
THANK GOD FOR CHRISTOPHER ODD. Haha, I wouldn't watch anyone elses LP of this game. SO happy you have one. Thanks so much for everything you do, dude.
This seems like the sort of game that you could play for 8 hours and not even know.
I've played for longer and didn't even notice
I will have to watch a few tuts before playing, but this game looks so much fun!
I know why I don't buy it... I've got too many time-consuming games already!
I haven't played cause it's not out for pc :^)
Maluca, why is your aim so bad??? :O
:D
This game, man. Just like with Wildstar, everytime I see something for it, see it's stunning vistas, I remember John Smith from Disney's Pocahontas singing:

My computer would vomit, punch me in the nuts, and then collapse into a black hole if I tried to play this, but it looks stunning.
Name the plants after your loyal subs :) like kolmo for instance.
planets*
"Kolmo votes for....., Kolmo."
Kolmo0730 for president.
+FacePaintedClown Aren't clowns supposed to have original jokes?
+FacePaintedClown I'm pretty sure they have censorship lol!
Mr. Odd. I cannot tell you how long i've been waiting for this
Giant Creature: Jotunn Indomminus
Small Creature: Minicus Ovari
Large Plant: Chuckleroot
Small Plant: Gloomleaf
I am so happy you're paying this game, Chris! I literally looked at this game and immediately wanted you to LP it so thank thank thank you so much! I'm so excited!
Sigh, as a veteran this game seems so peaceful. Hopefully I'll be able to get it next month. Good luck bro
Factions?)
Honestly I am not interested in this game at this stage but as soon as base building comes in ooooo buddy I'm gonna be all over it
+Xander Respress Obvious Minectaft fan is obvious.
I'm excited for building freighters!
+Excalibur Prime Base building equals being a minecraft fan? Lmao ok then pal.
Excalibur Prime yes and along with that I am a fan of spelling and grammar
Okay I'm sold. Best introductory episode of NMS that I've seen so far, got yourself a sub good sir!
Just to point out (though you may have already realized). Don't trust the waypoint pointing towards heridium. It just randomly selects a bit of heridium on the planet (I assume within a certain radius) but it is entirely possible to find it closer to you rather than walking all the way to the waypoint.

im still daydreaming about the time when we happy few walkthroughs were the highlight of my existence
You get a bonus for scanning and uploading all the plants , minerals and animals on each planet - make it so -you're doing a nice job so far
Who else is getting a really Spore type of vibe of this game? (The good parts of Spore... not the... erm... lesser parts)
Oh no. OH NO. MUST RESIST. UNTIL PC. RELEASE
I honestly thought the same (see tweet here twitter.com/Christopher_Odd/status/763004547744890880), and then I realized that since everything is randomly generated anyways, it's not gonna be a huge issue.

In case you haven't notice, under the name of each item, it says what kind of item it is, like the cube thing you got is a trade commodity
That one soundtrack when you're just walking around reminds me of Inception.

Thanks Kyle. Why are those beacons only meant to be used once? Regarding the things with green backgrounds...essentially just money?
yeah dark green ones are either for selling or trading (though trading can be rare at times). the beacons were intended to be used only once but you can create bypass chips over and over again to locate as many other signals (monolith, shelter, etc.) as you want.
+ChristopherOdd name the first planet dick tickler
You interacted with a plant that gave you hazard bonuses then named a mineral after that??? or did you think you'd interacted with a mineral and it gave you those bonuses?
I think he mistook which one he interacted with.
This. I think I said this right afterwards.
Why are playstation players so... I don't know how to put it. But at least he reads everything, puts him lightyears ahead of the other let's play players.

Thanks for doing this Christopher. I just downloaded from Steam and was a bit stuck at first. Watching this was a huge help. Love the videos. Cheers!
The stone you named Protection or Hazard wasn't what gave you protection, it was the dual headed flower beneath it that gave you protection.
This makes me so happy because its not tormenting like TheRadBrad's play through
One thing i must say when examining a species gender is actually genus. From what i saw the asymptotic are the base/common of the species and your "finner" was an exotic or mutation from the base. Cant wait to see more on PC!
Also if you find something in the water and it looks like a cow name it Aquamoo :D cause its a cow under water!
Every time I see this game I think what it really out there hopefully one day we can find more information on planets outside our galaxy
Just subscribed and I just want to say I'm loving your game play and commentary :)
So happy this is finally coming out. Thanks, Odd =)
You're the best RUclipsr for this kind of game. I already love it.
Best let's play I have watched today with this game. I was hoping you were going to play this.
Here's to a long and prosperous Let's Play.
PLANET SMERGISBERG just because it is really cool and funny sounding!
This game looks awesome, so happy he is playing it, keep up the great work odd. I absolutely love your content and how you play through games
I have to wait till the 12th to play it, because that is when it comes out on PC. I recently found your channel and I'm loving the style of it. I record myself, and love to watch your vids! I really, really like 'exploring with the gamer'. only makes a promising game even more fun.

Hype Intensifies, watching this while it installs on my PS4, can't wait to dive in and see what planet I ended up on
"The temperature's gone down, that's so cool." - Christopher Odd, Augutst 2016
Augutst?
Yeah, it's like a conventional August but with a 100% increase in unchecked typos.
Ohhhhh my goodness it's GLaDOS from portal! :)
YES!!!!! Perfect youtuber for the game
Oh my god! Christopher is play every single game that I want to get!
Finally a competent RUclipsr
1:48 Glados, is that you?
When you start on the PC do something like Planet 1 - [Name] than Planet 2 - [Name] Solar System 1 - [Name] and Galaxy 1 [Name] I hear it is really hard to find your way back but a naming system like this maybe help you keep track better.

Thanks for that
The title should be 'finite possibilities' due to the fact that you can not make an infinite universe, just like Minecraft, the procedural generation breaks at one point. In No Mans Sky theirs a video explaining that after the 255th galaxy the procedural generation stops and everything after that point will be the same. Its the same as Minecraft, eventually minecraft infinite world stops.
Randomly stumbled across your channel when a video ended and yours appeared on "playing next" Good work, love the content.
Great starting vid Chris! Love it. Keep em coming please
Hey Odd, when you find a settlement/buildings, make sure you enter them to search for loot and check the walls for goodies that could help you. : )
how about chicukabulandiambetura for a planet ? :))
I am really looking forward for next episode.
I really, really, really love this type of game. This is going to be great.
120 degrees ferhenheit amazing
The best gameplays of all of RUclips are made by TheRadBrad!
You have got to call that ship and every ship you have Roach.
0:36 what a feeling that must be
Chris trade commodities and high value curiousity are for money pretty much. You just sell them at traders
7.50 Amazing Grace-I was lost but now am found.
I'm getting Subnautica vibes. Anyone else? Looks amazing though, cant wait to see more.
have to go to work i will be back to watch all these videos thank you
ever thought about playing LA Noir Chris? i'm surprised you hadn't played it already considering it's the type of game i would see you enjoy.
Great to see you playing this game. I think it would be cool if you prefixed planet and system names with "Odd" like maybe "Odd-MunnahMunnah VI" etc
its the lighting that makes the game look good
You could use the Plutonium as fuel for Pulse Charge, and carbon also serves as fuel.
Found out by watching other YT'ers that there's a bit of a bug where things like height and weight and things are switched around. Also Asymptotic apparently means "(of a condition or a person) producing or showing no symptoms" according to google.
I don't think I can watch, Christopher is going to forget something which drives me crazy
Told myself I wasn't going to watch anything about this game until I got to play it... Then I saw you upload this...
Not the same creature. Different variations of the same species. Much like variants of birds or wildcats. And the fauna will show in a different section
18:30 it was the plant that you picked that give you the buff for hazard.
Every RUclipsr is incredibly oblivious.
It's difficult to play something, focus, and still have the ability to speak coherently without slowing or stuttering.
If that's the case then apparently all of them got to have perfect quiet alone time to play video games freely with nothing going on around them.
Fascination bead, i almost don't wanna ask. - Christopherodd 10-8-2016
Odd you should create a poll on Twitter and the names with the most % become the planets etc.
really cool to see the start planets are different, i just started mine on pc and i started on a snow planet
Chris, may I make a suggestion for one of the future series? How about This Is the Police? This is kind of the PD management game, but with well-crafted story. I don't know if you like these types of games, but I sure do recommend it.
