I've been so disappointed to see my plant favs silent on their platforms. "You are part of the problem." Yes yes yes. Thank you for saying something. Thank you for your great plant content.
Yes!!! Thank you for pointing this out! It isn't a political argument it's a human rights problem. @Gordon Freeman what country doesnt have racism!?!? Also just because there is less visible racism in your area doesnt mean that other areas arent totally fucked. If there is something wrong in the world you shouldnt just ignore it because its not happening around you.
@Gordon Freeman People are reaching out to people in power. Im a Canadian and ive met with my local MP's on several occasions. Hey Kaylee, I have been using Lechuza Pon for a while now and my plants love it! Apparently the two substrates are supposed to have the perfect air/water ratio. BUT the zeolite (I think it's called) is supposed to make the perfect PH balance. Lastly they claim that it absorbs any extra fetilizer and releases it as needed (not sure if the same can be said for Leca though). Hope that helps 😊
@@kimmy6304 Yeah! Have you fertilized it since? They say there's fertilizer in the substrate that lasts 6 months, so I might have to soon. Curious what fertilzer you are using/would use 😄

About lechuza: Normally you should plant your plants with the soil. The lechuza pon is a lava granulate. So put a layer pon to the botton of the pot and than take the plant with the soil and fill up with pon. The "deltini" pot can do the selfwatering right away. Plants in the bigger pots like the "Classico" have to root down through the bottom. This will be take about 3 month,so frist you have to keep up watering by yourelf. The plants can take the water from the tank by them selfs, if the roots gets through the bottom. After they drunk all the water, you let dry out and refill the pot again. Thats the way lechuza recommended.(I talked to the employees at the flagship store in my hometown😉).The lechuza pon is already fertilized, so be aware of that. More infos in the little manual.😉 I have a couple of lechuza planter and they works great for all of my monsteras. Love your videos! ❤ Greetings from Bavaria😉
Kaylee I love your vids and personality! I binge watched a sh*t ton of your videos over the last few weeks. Thank you for helping me pass the time while also inspiring me to be come a plant mom! :)
Kaylee, I just wanted to let you know that this wasn't the first video of yours I watched, but it was the one that got me to subscribe. Thank you for calling attention to this. I appreciate you using your platform to call attention to this human rights issue. Thank you!
“Nobody asked me if I have a girlfriend, how presumptions” I laughed so hard for so long lol I’m gay but I “look straight” and I always get asked if I have a bf haha
I don't get it. Heteronormative thinking is still way to common. Why can't people just ask if you are in a relationship? That is completely genderneutral. But how do you answer if you get ask about having a bf? Do you explain to them that your are in a same sex relationship? I would probably just answer with no and move on.
Love is love, however I did laugh at your response! 🤣 It just reminded me of Lieno being so shocked about the guy randomly touching him. "that's my baaarrrttttt" 🤣😂
I’ve been more of a casual viewer but after your documentary I’ve been HAVING to go back and watch as much as I can. I already adored you, I wish you were my friend after watching the episodes of your documentary, but watching the first few minutes of this video had me in tears. I was banned from a few plant groups just for my “political” Facebook profile picture. That was an infinitesimal moment of understanding what it’s like to navigate this world as a Black woman or man and it lit a fire under me. But first, it put me into a depressive episode. It’s been months, but hearing you denounce this systemic racism in even the plant community is validating and so important. So thank you, it’s our responsibility to uplift Black voices and be anti racist. Thank you and I am so glad I found your channel.
I have noticed the same in plant groups on Facebook. I have joined a lot of no hate/ BLM Facebook groups in the last two weeks and I left a lot of the groups I was a part of. Never in my life thought the plant community would have something like this happen. Thank you for using your platform to spread the truth. Utmost respect for you, my plant queen 👸🏼
I love Lechuza. I have so many. What I have found, though (top tip), is that if you go to the Lechuza site you can buy 'spare parts'. They sell the liners for the Puro (the ball shaped ones) and it fits nicely in other pots. It's straight up and down. And the liner actually has all the bits and bobs it needs (apart from the outer ball shaped bowl). Don't do like me and buy liners and wicks and water gauges etc. The only problem, I'm having, apart from loads of extra wicks and gauges - is finding just the right sized pot to fit snugly around the liner. I mean - they could sit in used icecream tubs and then the whole getup could go into an appropriately sized seagrass basket. It just adds a bit of variety to the Lechuza functionality (if you don't want loads of pots that look the same). At the minute - I'm putting the liners in Elho orchid pots. This results in quite a bit of the liner visible above the Elho - but I'm crocheting pot covers the put the whole thing in.
Most orchids’ roots are indeed capable of photosynthesis so if they are exposed to light, they will turn green and start producing food. It does help the plant but it’s not exactly a necessity if the plant’s leaves get sufficient light and the plant is otherwise healthy.
THANKYOU Kaylee. The people in our plant groups who are saying that this should only be about plants, no politics. They don't seem to understand that human lives are not politics. Congrats you have the ability to forget about everything going on for a minute... Black people don't have that option. They have no safe space to go and forget about the world for a minute, because even in their own beds at home they are not safe from Police Officers.
Yes! Thank you for addressing the injustice that has got to be stopped. No one should have to live in the type of treatment our black fellow world citizens have been subjected to for centuries. It’s horrific to know the kind of worry and fear that they must handle along with the mistreatment. We have to be better than that?!? We must not tolerate racist behavior of any sort ever.
You speaking up on the issues the black community has to deal with is very much appreciated!! Thank you so much for using your platform no matter how big or small!
Great intro! I'm glad you're using your platform like this! Btw about the orchid roots needing light.. they don't need light but when they get it, they produce chlorophyll for extra photosynthesis thats why orchid roots are often green. But they barely contribute to photosynthesis so its fine to grow them in pots that are not transparent. The roots will just be white/ yellowish.
In regards to Orchids: you don't necessarily need light to get to roots, but some species (perhaps most notably phalaenopsis) are able to photosynthesize from the roots. So the clear pots help the orchid grow! Some species like the ghost orchid have no leaves, only roots!
I always enjoy your repot and chat sessions! Thank you for using your platform and exposure to highlight racial injustices for the black community worldwide!! I have serious plant envy! I wished I had a space large enough to have all types of plants. Looking at your videos brings me alot of inner joy. I learn alot more about plants from you and I like your no nonsense approach as to how you run your business. With that being said, kudos on not divulging your personal life. It really isn't anyone's business. It is so rude and disrespectful to violate someone's privacy in that way. Again, thank you for sharing your love of plants with us!
Thank you Kaylee Ellen for using your platform to draw attention to the plight of Black America and the BLM movement. It will take all of us to educate ourselves to change this system of injustice and I sincerely appreciate you taking a stance and being an ally in the fight. Your opening statements in this video really touched me. I love your channel and your enthusiasm for the plant community.
I agree with you, you don't need to tell us about your personal life. I keep work with work and my personal life to myself, I don't mix them and believe me people I work with are like detectives and with all the questions..... I finally asked one person if they were writing a book with all the questions they were asking. LOL I know. I didn't get an answer they just walked away. So, I thought we were here for information about plants and other plant related subjects. I appreciate you talking about Black Lives Matter, I don't understand what is wrong with everyone aren't we passed all that........there should be none of that happening its awful to think. We are all human after all no matter what color or nationality we all eat, sleep, ect. and work together. They should be ashamed. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Keep doing what you do. Stay safe as well.
You should try missorchidgirl out. She's very informative with her explanation and experiments. She also uses the self watering that u are using. Orchid don't necessarily need their roots exposed to light, they will just do fine without it. The root will be pale yellow instead of green.
Thank you for using your platform to raise awareness to racism. The more we talk about it the more real it becomes for those that are so far removed these tragic truths. I hope these conversations will motivate more people to join the movement for radical change.
Thank YOU for touching upon the topic regarding the lack of Equality of African descendants and the negative views and ill treatment placed on us by the world society. We all need to have an honest...patient open discussion on this platform on making positive changes. You are a great inspiration . I love watching your channel. Thank YOU again, M. Antoinette Adams
Just if you want to know what pon is, unless something changed, it's small lava rock (very porous, doesn't hold much water, kinda similar to leca), zeolite (used in water purification, it adsorbs cations and anions on itself and plants can get it from there, in short it holds nutrients) and pumice (a little bit more retentive than leca and little bit more wicking)... and just a thing to be aware of, they add slow release fertilizer into it (small yellow beads). It remains airy since none of the ingredients holds tons of water and pumice and lava rock still hold a lot of air. I do use a similar mix for years and years with my bonsai and recently even for orchids and no suffocation ever happened in self watering. But of course it also depends on the environment. Hope this helps a bit.
I would be interested in a video where you talk more about the aspects of starting your own business. Things you learned along the way, what you wish you knew when you started, your key advice, etc.
Hi, if the question is still open about the Lechuza-Pon: It is made out of zeolite, german pumice stone, german light lava (provides iron permanent for the plants) and fertilizer which lasts for 6 month and is made for every house plant, orchids, citrus plants, herbs, tomatoes, fruit plants, cactus and so on. Hope that helps. I just read this on the homepage of Lachuza which is in german.
Thank you so much for starting off the video calling out the plant community. It is so important to have these uncomfortable conversations, so thank you for speaking up.
I love the smaller Lechuza pots! I like I can check if the roots grow into water very easily . The new orchid pot is great for aroids too, you can literally see the roots if they are on the edge. I don't like using lechuza pon. I noticed they can be too wet for too long if the roots are not large enough or not growing fast (never had problem with pothos or spider plants because their roots grow very fast), and it smells moldy with time. The pon also has fertilizer in it, so if the plant does not like fertilizers, it would not end pretty. Clay pebbles can be too dry for my plants. I am in a dry area. But I notice if you combine the pon with the clay pebbles or using just moss (if you don't press it too compact) they love it!
I've been watching your videos for a while and colored me shocked when I put this video on! But in a good way! Here I was, just expecting one of your normal videos and you went out of your way to make sure that we knew how you felt about the current situation about racism. Thank you, from a gay black man who loves plants.. Thank you! You are the only one who has said something on RUclips in the plant world... Make sure you all watch the ads so she gets what she deserves....
I just wanted to say that I love you to death! Your videos are such a huge highlight of my week, and a big reason I've started to be a lot more public with my own plant things and adventures. You do you, boo, you don't have to tell anyone a thing about your personal life. ;)
YTubers who think there's no place for conversations about social injustices, racism specifically, on their channel think that they're being neutral (as if there's such a thing). Their silence is a choice and an act of censorship. It's more than being complicit, it is participation. Thank you Kaylee for understanding this and speaking out about this.
The Lechuza Pon is similar to LECA! It's made primarily of charcoal, lava rock, orchid bark and so forth. It's just made into a fine mineral-y mix rather than being a bit bulky. It can be used in the exact way as LECA, but you don't have to add nutrients to it because it already contains fertilizer and ph balancers.
Thank you for being supportive and vocal about racial justice 🥰💕💙. Also, I respect your personal life regarding loved ones and choosing to share about them or not, yeah some people might request to not be shown or mentioned on you tube. I wish you happiness regardless of your status! Also, I assumed the filming person was either one of your employees. Peace and love 💕💙.
I don't know if you've done it in other videos but I really loved the quick popup labeling the plants. It looked cool and helps that I don't have to try figuring out how to spell the names. Also Thanks Kaylee #BlackLivesMatter
hello Kaylee, I'm from Indonesia. I love watching your content to help me understand British accent, think it's getting better now.. thanks to you :) and also recently I've fallen in love with house plants! interesting content! cant wait for you to post more!! xx
I've used Lechuza Pon for 2 years - but I use it as a replacement for perlite because of the pumice and lava stone. My plants have loved it so far - even though I was skeptical at first because of the added fertilizer. I also think it makes for a lovely top dressing for succulents.
Thanks for continuing to speak up about the blm stuff. You’re wonderful as usual. Also these are seriously some of my favourite videos on the platform, so relaxing and always puts me in the mood to do the work I’ve been putting off all day lol. Sending love from Australia!
From what I've read, lechuza pon, is a mix of pumice, lapillo (heavier than pumice and very porous lava rock), zeolite and a slow release fert with an organic coating, seems fine. I've used and use seramis, pumice, lapillo, bark mixed with seramis and everything in between.
That intro was really needed, there's a lot of people who don't follow you on Insta and therefore don't know how active you've been in speaking out and providing (imo) AMAZINGLY detailed and helpful information and links to donations and other educational channels. Also a great way to weed out the racists :'D! Keep being amazing, Kaylee!
Thank you for dedicating your intro to surfacing the rising issues of Black people in America. I recently subscribed and this meant a lot. And now, it’s September! Any eta on when your shop will be back up because I am ready to send some coins your way! 💰
Hey Kaylee 💚 About orchids: so orchid roots have the ability to photosynthesize which is pretty badass. But it’s not necessary for them to have light. It’s an added benefit lol. I grow orchids in semi-hydro (leca) and if I leave the pot uncovered, the roots will turn green with chlorophyll. If covered from light in a decorative pot, the roots become white, but they are still alive and viable. And hell yes to your intro! Black 👏 Lives 👏 Matter! ✊
Hi greetings from Germany. I have many plants standing in Lechuza pots, from the Deltinis to Classico 35 and the great Cilindros. All stand in pure pon and grow great. I even had an orchid in Lechuza Pon for 6 years. She still lives but the pot I needed for another plant :)
Thank you for showing support for the BLM movement, more people with large platforms need to support this basic human rights movement and not just placate their audience to keep their subscriber count 🖤
I recall The Swedish Plantguys talked about the substrate that comes with the Lechuza system. I think they said it retains too much water for most indoor plants (because they come in smaller sized granules), so your hypothesis is correct.
Thank you for the intro and thank you for the long video that gave my mind a little bit of relaxation from this crazy world thats gone to sh*t....big hugs to you!!!
I totally agree. People are not going to stop talking about the BLM movement because it makes some privileged people uncomfortable or they feel tired of hearing about it. This isn't about making those people comfortable. Regarding the BF questions... Loved that you said people are presumptuous... LOL. Thanks Kaylee for another awesome video.
Love your videos Kaylee Ellen! Thank you for your introduction to this video. As primarily an orchid grower, the pots you are trying are often used for semi-hydro users (I use a traditional bark medium). Btw orchid roots need to have air (not light). I’ve started into houseplants in the past year and I love African violets, philodendrons, alocasia..... I love them all (and want them all!!!!). I look forward to your videos.
about the orchids, they don't NEED light on the roots (only one single species that need light on the roots since it have no leaves) but some epiphyte orchids is able to photosynthetizise through the roots if it's given the possibility (ex Phalaenopsis) but as long as they aren't super sick or stressed it really doesn't matter
This resonated so much with me.. I'm currently trying and working on getting my hobby off the ground and up and running as a business (also in plants!). I've had so much doubt from different people and I'm adjusting to running my own business as well. Thank you for speaking some truth

More infos in the little manual.😉
I have a couple of lechuza planter and they works great for all of my monsteras.
Love your videos! ❤
Greetings from Bavaria😉
Kaylee I love your vids and personality! I binge watched a sh*t ton of your videos over the last few weeks. Thank you for helping me pass the time while also inspiring me to be come a plant mom! :)
Thanks for your sincere and conscientious introduction…That was very courageous of you … you are the best … Thanks for blooming love and equality ❤️
I get it all the time with companies "and HIS name?" They get a shock when I reply Rachel
Honestly SAAAAME
Love is love, however I did laugh at your response! 🤣 It just reminded me of Lieno being so shocked about the guy randomly touching him. "that's my baaarrrttttt" 🤣😂
Well, she has referred to her 'boyfriend' Mark in her past video so it is understandable why people assume that she is straight.
Ugh you’re the best! The BLM shout out, thank you!!! Only one in the plant community I’ve seen done this.
One of my favorite plant RUclipsrs, so proud of you using your platform for education! #BLM
Thank you for addressing this issue in such a caring and legitimate manner. We appreciate it.
You should really try the Elho pots, they’re the same system as Lechuza but cheaper, you do need an outer pot tho, kinda like a hydro insert
Thank you for speaking out. Thank you for actually using your platform to make a difference.
Thank you for the first message and for using ur platform and voice for!! It's something that concert to everyone and thank you for ❤️❤️❤️
Great intro!
You have a wonderful channel. Thank you for using you platform to speak out regarding Black Lives Matter issue and racism.
In regards to Orchids: you don't necessarily need light to get to roots, but some species (perhaps most notably phalaenopsis) are able to photosynthesize from the roots. So the clear pots help the orchid grow!
Some species like the ghost orchid have no leaves, only roots!
Just googled ghost orchid. Kinda scary. Or maybe it's just the photos which are uploaded. And it's 1 pm here, haha.
Im so glad youre one of the plant people talking about blm. 😍💕
Love a 40 minute video from you 🙌🏼 and thank you for using your platform to speak up! You’re amazing 💞 Black Lives Matter. You get it.
Thank you for using your platform responsibly and also the great content! I’m looking into starting a local plant shop in my area.
The intro 😍
You should try missorchidgirl out. She's very informative with her explanation and experiments. She also uses the self watering that u are using. Orchid don't necessarily need their roots exposed to light, they will just do fine without it. The root will be pale yellow instead of green.
Your opening is so powerful and I applaud you for it. Thank you!
Thank YOU again,
M. Antoinette Adams
I didn't think I could love you more but I do. Your support and comments were well said.
Thank you for addressing this important issue and not taking the stance of "this is a place for plants."
I just love you as a human being. just needed to put that out there.
Oh that’s super interesting!
@@julietteorwhateva2163 I love it! It's essentially an aroid mix, but is less messy and more convenient.
Orchid need air flow to the roots. That why there are pots design for them and with moss bark mix.
I’m so proud of you for this! You’re and ally. I will support your shop. 🖤
Thank you. I appreciate your statement. I’m now happily subscribed with bell notifications. We need more business owners such as yourself.
From what I've read, lechuza pon, is a mix of pumice, lapillo (heavier than pumice and very porous lava rock), zeolite and a slow release fert with an organic coating, seems fine. I've used and use seramis, pumice, lapillo, bark mixed with seramis and everything in between.
I have never commented on your videos but I am an avid follower. Thank you for speaking up about racism ✊🏾 silence is compliance ✊🏾
I just love how those plants bordered the frame of this video, gorgeous! ! 😊😊
Your intro was beautiful, I forgot I’d come to watch a plant video. Thanks for sharing!!
Also, thank you so so much for speaking on your platform about the BLM movement. You give me hope within the plant community! ❤️
Thank you for the intro and thank you for the long video that gave my mind a little bit of relaxation from this crazy world thats gone to sh*t....big hugs to you!!!
Thank you for making your stance known, K 💕
I totally agree. People are not going to stop talking about the BLM movement because it makes some privileged people uncomfortable or they feel tired of hearing about it.
This isn't about making those people comfortable. Regarding the BF questions... Loved that you said people are presumptuous... LOL. Thanks Kaylee for another awesome video.
Thank you for sharing your voice and platform! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've been binging your videos for months now and I've never comcommented just wanted to say thank you for being an ally. ❣❣❣❣
about the orchids, they don't NEED light on the roots (only one single species that need light on the roots since it have no leaves) but some epiphyte orchids is able to photosynthetizise through the roots if it's given the possibility (ex Phalaenopsis) but as long as they aren't super sick or stressed it really doesn't matter
Another amazing vid! Thanks for addressing BLM, love your honesty and courage🤗. I have learned so much from you! Can’t wait till you ship to Canada😍

''they growing, they're fine, they even rooting right now''
Could be a plant rap song
This resonated so much with me.. I'm currently trying and working on getting my hobby off the ground and up and running as a business (also in plants!). I've had so much doubt from different people and I'm adjusting to running my own business as well. Thank you for speaking some truth
Hey I’m a black plant collector here outside of MPLS ( I use to live on that block that George died on) I just want to thank you for you using your platform for good! I hope to buy from you once you launch your US service. Halal at ya boy!
Kaylee I'm your new biggest fan. Thank you so much for that intro. I live in Richmond VA, ( the capitol of the Confederacy) where the Confederate statues are being removed. Thank you for taking a stand. I love your videos and if I lived there I'd be buying up your plant shop. ♥️
Love the RAW real you! And no matter how you repot your plants they always look good! x
Love the intro!!!! & i love watching you pot & chat! I don't blame you wanting to keep your personal life to yourself. It's important to keep some things off the interwebs. Lol!
I’ve been binge watching your channel the past couple days and I’m glad I did. Great videos and you have a great personality!
