I remember thinking that I didn't like Hoya. Turns out I just had to see them in real life. I walked into a local greenhouse, saw a Sheperdii, Carnosa Compacta, and Carnosa Krimson Queen and told my sister that I didn't like them and didn't get the Hoya hype. Went home. I seriously could not stop thinking about them. I decided that I liked them. Couldn't even sleep bc I had so much regret. Came back early the very next day to buy them. Now I'm obsessed with Hoya.
That's how it happened for me too! Turns out they've been the easiest plant for me, and rewarding even with their slow growth. Can never stop feeling their thick beautiful leaves!
Regarding your insta post: Take a break, for your sake. You have no obligation towards anyone to f***ing do anything. We love your content and character, and wouldn't want to see that fade away! ❤
Pulls out the Polyneura and says "It's not a huge one" and I'm over here dying because that's massive in the US. You almost can never find it unless you wanna pay with a kidney.
your comment about the reversion really hits for me!! i looove my few hoyas because they almost seem meant to be wild and free and i just let them grow however they please!
Since you're into LECA and have watering concerns, you'll be happy to hear that Hoyas LOVE semi hydro! I've had all 9 of mine in LECA for over a year now, they all transitioned without any issues too but they were only small 4" pot size. And that's what happens when you comment while watching the video... I now see you're already giving leca a go. 😆
Classic example of what happens... one minute you’re not into Hoya and unsure of why everyone’s so into them; Next minute, you’re a complete Hoya head with enough Hoya to create the dream Hoya bookcase you didn’t realize you needed.
Alysha Chapman I had an imbricata and it died 😭 apparently it’s a high altitude Hoya so it needs very cold temps and high humidity and heat in the day so it’s kinda difficult if you don’t have the conditions
I love how excited you are over all your new hoya! I left my H carnosa cutting in water for, uh, five years? Something like that. Potted it up last fall, it fell a few times during the winter, put it outside this summer, and it's gone absolutely nuts! It's probably in the wrong dirt, it was overwatered most of the summer (didn't realize it wasn't draining right), and it just doesn't care, it keeps putting out more leaves and more vines.
The best way I've found to root hoya cuttings is with a plastic bag and damp(not soggy) spahgnum moss. All the nodes were making roots in about 3 days. I just lined the bag with the moss on the bottom and wrapped a bit of the bottom node in moss as well. You just open the bag to get fresh air in there every few days and keep it in bright indirect light. This has also worked for string of turtles really well for me :). Hope this can help any hoya enthusiasts if you buy cuttings online!
Hi. I need Hoya therapy!! I have a few basic ones that look very nice but are not putting out tendrils or whatever they are called. Did some research and changed the dense soil to better draining and added a bit of fertilizer, tomato fertilizer was recommended. In indirect bright light etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Greta
@@gaverbach sometimes when I get a new hoya, the runner will die off! It's not a big problem, they will sometimes abort their new leaves, peduncle, or runner if their environment has changed. I had a krinkle 8 that got rid of everything new it had when I got it, and after 2 months it finally put something new out and is growing like crazy now. I have found that they can handle direct light for a few hours, so maybe that can help. Be careful and keep on eye on your plants if you move them the first time. Inconsistent watering might also make them loose their new growth, but don't worry about that because it's better to undwater than over water imo. Hoya also kinda have growth and rest periods, so yours might be on break! Hope this helps :)
Pinkeygirly Thank you for your speedy reply. I feel better knowing they slow down or stop putting out leaves. Beautiful plants but so finicky. I love what I’m looking at and really don’t care about blossoms. Just want to make sure I’m not hurting them. May I call on you in the future with other Hoya issues? 🙂
I’m not sure if anyone had already said this, but there is another compacta you should look into getting, if you can find it: Hoya carnosa compacta ‘Jody’s Silver.’ I personally have never seen it for sale in the States, so quite a rare hoya. If silver hoya appeal to you, you should also check out Hoya carnosa ‘Argentea,’ which is basically a silver Krimson Queen. I believe there is also a Krimson Princess version. Hoya are my favorite genus, so I’m very glad to see you’ve finally come around on them so that I can live vicariously through your (hopefully ever-growing) collection! 😁 Aside from those already mentioned, the top of my wishlist includes Hoya chinghungensis, Hoya hellwigiana, and Hoya sp. IR26. Happy hoya hunting!🌿
Hoyas grab you and pull you in. There's nothing you can do about it. I love your choices and I love the fact that you admit that you don't know much. That's true wisdom and it keeps the mind open to learning. I have a couple Compactas; two started from cuttings and one was a large hanging basket I found at Walmart last week. One of the plants in the basket is a Mauna Loa and I couldn't be happier. I've heard of full baskets of the variegated forms being shipped by Costa and I'm hoping to encounter one or two myself. They used to be everywhere 10, 20, 30, and more years ago. They were just a huge snooze and now they're in fashion. I always liked them and I've killed many of them over the years, but we finally figured out how to keep them alive.
90% of it is covid, I'd also say contributing to that is millennials who largely went for minimalism trying to fill that space now that everyone is stuck inside and wants a hobby. Just from what I've seen!
Splashed hoya are my favourites! Just got three tiny hoya yesterday, so now I have five, and I am still super excited. All your hoya are amazing!! Can't wait for haul #2!! 💜🌿💜
I didn’t get the Hoya hype either. I was then gifted 2 cuttings and they were so easy! So low maintenance, hanging up so they don’t take up space and pet safe. I’m glad to have them now and can’t wait to see if they bloom.
I also know a good tip that my hoyas LOVE is weekly I spray them down with orchid food from miracle grow. But they spit out leaves left and right and I think that helps them a lot!
Fun story, my sister's father in law took some cuttings from a Hoya that was growing in a local courthouse and it was basically passed down to her and she gave me cuttings, we are pretty sure the mystery Hoya is a Wilbur graves. It's almost 15 years old
I also have a carnosa compacta varigata as well and she loves the grow light as well. She grown during the summer but seems to thrive under the grow light and since I live in rainy seattle, I’m very happy about it.
Love your videos. Keep it up. Wasn't into hoya either and now have over 75 different varieties. Some large but most medium size from cuttings. They are beautiful. With so many there is something new to see everyday. I am in Canada.
I agree... HOYA are addicting... I won a hoya DS 70 also known as Bilibota. It arrived with a few flowers and it immediately stole my heart. I live in Northern Michigan and all plants are hard to find. I love watching your content...
For the fishtail, it seems like the thinner the leaves are the thistier the Hoya is. With the compacta regalis, it seems like it doesn't do any above-ground growth until their roots are totally spread out. Not necessarily rootbound, but like a lot of other Hoya, they really like to get settled in with their roots before taking off. They can almost stall out growing if they put out sets of totally white leaves too.
I have a few hoya and have not been bitten by the hoya bug, but now thanks to you I believe it has happened. Which is not a good thing because I'm way over the limit of plants my house can hold now . Loved this haul, it's always great seeing you. Hope all is well and thank you 😊
I became obsessed with Hoyas about a year ago and they're easily my favourite type of plant. I love them more than Alocasias and Monsteras and I didn't think it was possible. I'm glad you've converted into a Hoya geek too! Great video and great beginner Hoyas in my opinion, I also love Wayetii and Compactas 😄🥰
The best tip I can give any Hoya head is - orchid spray! They looovvveee it. Sooo happy for this video and also sad, because now hoyas will be even harder to find!!! I can’t wait to find a Hoya Alyona- a hoyawith my name! So cool!!!!
If a Hoyas leaves go wrinkly and soft then you know they need watering it’s the best way to tell when they need to be watered. If it still shows signs of this after a day then it may need another drink. I’ve heard they grow a lot faster if they are exposed to highlight and high humidity like in a bathroom. X
Literally watch Kaylee for the company, I have two Hoyas and now need more! I wasn’t really bothered before really, but Damn!! Thanks Kaylee my life over!! Plants are my life 🙏🏻💕😃🌸
Your Albo is just standing back there like, "really?" Nothing is impressive when she's standing back there in the frame. I can't stop looking at her! This entire video I keep thinking... Nope, no Hoyas for me, saving every dime for something like Albo!
Dont get me wrong i love your shop haul videos, but theres something about the personal hauls that makes my heart sing seeing your eyes light up with love, i was worried that starting the plant shop would numb your excitement a little for plants but i’m so glad that i’m wrong!! Beautiful collection 🥰
As a person who doesn’t own any hoyas, this video made me want to get a few. I knew nothing about them and I’m excited to get some more hanging plants!
I am not a Hoya person and thankfully haven’t acquired another money draining addiction but there are some Hoya that really catch my attention. Sorry to make you jealous Kaylee but I have a really long normal green compacta that I ordered from Planterina when they launched their website and I was so pleased at its size. I think they all look like delicious spinach tortellini lol. In retail shops they seem expensive for their lack of length. I also have a Krinckle 8 and a curtisii. I haven’t had any bloom but I am an indoor foliage person anyway and if they did bloom I’d also think they look yummy to eat. I am super jealous of all your compacta and it’s endearing to see how excited you are about them. The Hoya that tend to catch my attention have unusual looking foliage and I am a sucker for things that are silvery and ghosty. I should go rewatch your Hoya index because you had some nice stuff there. 💙

Hi Kaylee, I find bottom watering to be the most effective watering method with most my hoyas. Most of the time when they start to wrinkle I put water in the cache pot
As someone who just recently got into Hoyas as well I am SO excited to watch this video. I currently have a Pubicalyx Splash, a Royal Hawaiian Purple, and a Carnosa Compacta. Definitely need to expand my collection! A Wayetii is the next on my list of Hoya that I need.
Finally finally finally omg 😍😍 To be honest I have no interest in rare plants Kaylee. And you might be reading this and thinking "why are you watching me then thats my thing?" I just enjoy watching you. But a hoya haul... Your hoya haul. This is going to be fun.
I just started like... 1month ago and I can relate to everything. The water, the cutting, etc. That and the few plants I used to have I overwatered. Buuut I like to think I'm doing a bit better.
I've found that compacta is staying wrinkled even after watering it's because their roots need some TLC. I would just take out the one vine and put in water therapy or some sort of humid/green house environment!
My Crimson princess is about 15 years old. I snipped a piece from a plant in a store. Rooted it in water. I've chopped her numerous times for family members. And she blooms once or twice a year.😊
Love your video! I'm traveling down to this Hoya rabbit hole right now! I felt exactly the same as you described, common varieties of Hoya are already amazing until I saw the silver splash ones...I'm like...I HAVE TO HAVE THEM, AS MANY AS I CAN!!
@@icke11234 I couldn't tell them apart at first. That was probably the biggest hurdle. My husband also makes fun of them pointing out dead leaves on the ground and calling them Hoyas. I was gifted a carnosa that was all twisted and coming out broken. I fell in love with it.
Hoyas like to be in small pots, so do not go to a much bigger pot. I got a tip for rapid growth, tried it, it works. Water the plant or place the plant and a small container with water in a clear plastic bag and seal it tightly. Place it where it will get good light. My Kerryii went wild!!! I have both a Krinkle 8 and a carmosa princess blooming. OVER THE MOON.
I love all of your videos. Thank you for all the tips, info and some fun entertainment. Always watching your video since the start of my tropical plant hobby. 🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤ I love your accent aswell 🥰
In NZ a hoya compacta regalis that size would go for probably a couple grand! A hoya compacta mauna loa sold on auction for 8 grand and was the most expensive plant in NZ in auction. Lucky us.
Yeah, I have a Hoya and Dischidia addiction. I have 18 Hoyas and counting. I have 1 Dischidia and counting. I’m waiting on 6 more Hoyas and 2 Dischidias. My first one was the Hoya carnosa crimson princess too. I love your selection ❤️
I also really want a grey ghost! The price tag is a bit 😅 I feel you would like Hoya caudata Sumatra, if you don’t already have it! I too love the silver variegation
Hi from Canada! What a beautiful collection! The compactas and krimson Queen are what drew me into Hoyas but I’ve kept it to around 6 so it doesn’t get out of control. I’m truly a philodendron lover, but honestly all plants are beautiful rare or not. Thanks for sharing, love your vids 💚🌱💚
what you described before "you are @#$!ed" is my exact thought journey into Hoya. Did not care at all, learned more, got interested in making them bloom, obtained many as rescues from some plant purge and discovered the foliage/pigmentation variations. @#$!ed
I also have all the Carnosa Compactas! Have a look out for the Hoya Dwarf Rope! I don't know it's proper name, Dwarf is all I see it referenced as in Aus 😊
I use to think Hoya were boring but I've fallen in love with them recently. I'm currently trying to get my linearis looking full and beautiful, I was only able to get 2 small plants (1 with a single strand (which has grown 30cms since I've had it), another with 3 (grew a 4th)) before we went into lockdown in Melb, Australia which I plan to pot together.
I remember thinking that I didn't like Hoya. Turns out I just had to see them in real life. You were bitten by the Hoya bug!
I remeber saying i dont get Hoya hype. Got 1 ordinary Hoya Carnosa and felt down rabbit hole. Also hi Army! Lets stream Dynamite :D
Hoyas will do that to you!
That's how it happened for me too! Turns out they've been the easiest plant for me, and rewarding even with their slow growth. Can never stop feeling their thick beautiful leaves!

ukcurlygrl1 romanticisation, covid, and it’s what happens when an upper middle class moves into a new hobby tbh I reckon hahaha

So excited you jumped on the hoya train!!! I collect hoya's & have over 100 of them now! Your polyneura is amazing!!! Beautiful hoyas!!! 💚💚
My H. Polyneura is loving the LECA life. Helps with the underwatering, which is my problem.
I just started like... 1month ago and I can relate to everything. The water, the cutting, etc. That and the few plants I used to have I overwatered. Buuut I like to think I'm doing a bit better.
LOVING the mauna loa and the compactum those are AMAZING
Wayetii is so cool! Hoping to get that one for my next hoya addition
I've found that compacta is staying wrinkled even after watering it's because their roots need some TLC. I would just take out the one vine and put in water therapy or some sort of humid/green house environment!
Definitely agree with you on the hoya polyneura! Super thirsty and quite fast growing in my opinion.
It's been over a year now, I wish you made a care video for hoya. The calathea and alocasia ones are very helpful and I still go back to them.
I really love my Hoya Wayetti. Once it gets a full head of hair, it’s soooo captivating. Flowers do give a scent at night btw!
My Crimson princess is about 15 years old. I snipped a piece from a plant in a store. Rooted it in water. I've chopped her numerous times for family members. And she blooms once or twice a year.😊
STOP WHATEVER YOURE DOING ITS A KAYLEE ELLEN HOYA HAUL THIS IS NOT A DRILL
😂🤣Right!!!
Love your video! I'm traveling down to this Hoya rabbit hole right now! I felt exactly the same as you described, common varieties of Hoya are already amazing until I saw the silver splash ones...I'm like...I HAVE TO HAVE THEM, AS MANY AS I CAN!!
Even though there might be bald patches at the stem don't cut them they can still fill in later on.
My compacta will sometimes start new stems from the bare nodes where leaves have fallen off in the past.
Omg I hated them at first 😂 now I have three and I have two more on my wishlist. Ahhhh
Do you mean like make a little “greenhouse” to increase humidity after watering?
@@carolinebaker8591 exactly. Just found another one and am going to put in its plastic bag right away. Want as .much growth before winter
I love all of your videos. Thank you for all the tips, info and some fun entertainment. Always watching your video since the start of my tropical plant hobby. 🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤🥰❤ I love your accent aswell 🥰
Girl....lol, I hear you!!! I’m new to Hoya and Completely obsessed😅💚
If you haven't already ordered them: Callistophylla, and Australis Lisa are both gorgeous.
Love this channel. Thank you, Kaylee, for your invaluable info and advice.
I also really want a grey ghost! The price tag is a bit 😅
I feel you would like Hoya caudata Sumatra, if you don’t already have it!
I too love the silver variegation
yes it is easy to get trapped with this hoya collection.
I love the convo with Alexa .
Nice collection here!
i find this so funny because i was JUST watching your rare Hoya index 😭 love it!
As a new Hoya lover i relate so much with explanation of how you go down the rabbit hole
what you described before "you are @#$!ed" is my exact thought journey into Hoya. Did not care at all, learned more, got interested in making them bloom, obtained many as rescues from some plant purge and discovered the foliage/pigmentation variations. @#$!ed
The Wilbur Graves is so gorgeous! 😍😍
I just looked up the price for one of those and omg! 💀 💀 one day...one day...
I also have all the Carnosa Compactas! Have a look out for the Hoya Dwarf Rope! I don't know it's proper name, Dwarf is all I see it referenced as in Aus 😊
you may be the only person to ever get their hands on a grey ghost within a few months of getting into hoyas hahahah
Girl you need a H.Mirabilis, satiny, splashy, long pointy leaves! One of my top ten Hoya in my collection for sure (out of over 40)
