Not drunk. He said in an interview that he was in the middle of a panic attack waiting to go on and he literally thought he was going to die. This was around the time his panic attacks were out of control and he had his airplane meltdown. That being said, yes he was a drunk back then. Nothing to do with this here though.
Man I can heavily relate to that, when youre having a panic attack shit just doesn't make sense, its like your brain is melting and suddenly 2 + 1 is 55 and the square root of the colour 9 is yes
All things considered, he did a great job collecting himself once they hit the first chorus. It was mostly just that first verse he had trouble with. That had to have been a massive undertaking
And also his grandma had just passed away who he was very close. But he did a great job! I did worse when I first played live infront of my entire school. And he did it on national TV. Respect.
i remember hearing along tima ago that they were playing on conan one day and i dedicated my 12 year old life to staying up and making sure i seen them play on there haha. twas cool.
Even though Buddy is a great singer, when Garrett sings "Just to keep our desire alive" at the end of the first chorus, I think its a nice change. Garrett has a really cool and unique voice that should be heard more. What I am getting at is he should sing more on senses fail songs! PS, yeah BUddy was so nervous, he forgot his own lyrics. haha
He messed up the beginning, but this was years ago. When they were only on their second album. They've had many other releases since "Let It Enfold You" came out, and have gotten even better since then, Buddy is a lot older, rid the piercings and tight pants and grew a beard, but the music is still kickass
today at warped tour , i talked with buddy for about 10-15 mins at his merch table . I asked him about this night and he said he was drunk a little and he was extremely embarressed about messing up the first verse . BTW they rocked at warped !
I personally think it was a good performance. It's national TV... of course you're gonna be a bit nervous... yes they don't sound live like they do in recording.. but they're still AWESOME live... live it's not all about the singing.. it's Can you keep the crowd on their feet? THEY do an amazing job at that!
Anyone who says Senses Fail sucks live has issues. I've seen them twice and both times they were awsome. I have also gotten to meet them and they are really cool, down to earth guys. So what if he messed up a little at first? They dont get much exposure on TV, he was prolly nervous.
I saw an interview, and yes, Buddy is drunk here because he was nervous. And as you can see by the first thirty seconds of his singing, it probably isn't false. Don't blame him though, they performed on live tv! But he did a decently good job afterwards.
This was back when Buddy used to get fucked up before and after shows. That's why his voice wasn't at its best. Nevertheless, he still kicked ass and still does today.
Pretty sure as everyone has been made aware it's way more than him just getting "fucked up" before a show. Having severe emotional issues, dealing with a lot, and having management force you to take meds right before a big performance doesn't make for a great outcome. This was before he was even turning to alcohol (he said he hadn't taken much in the way of drugs in his time in the band).
Everyone commenting on this video NEEDS to read this. Buddy was asked a month ago about what happened during this performance, and he had this to say.. "Um I blew it, haha. I was going through a really shitty time in my life and let my anxiety get the best of me and I just got so nervous that I blew it, kinda like that american gymnast during the olympics. It is one of my worst moments in life but if that is the worst thing that ever happens to me then I will feel very blessed."
this captain goes down with the ship... ayenshenden shiwadewe shiwadawa shidadide wamdrestofril wamdrestofril ahahah!! nice budday!! i love you lyrics!!! :D ahahaha
Actually Senses Fail are quite good live. Really good in fact. It looks like he pulled the mic away from him too fast but i wouldn't doubt t if he was drunk.lol.
@dcdallas88 actually he forgot the words because he was having a panic attack, i was just listening to an interview today, and the interviewer brought up this performance up
actual words: this captain goes down with the ship all hands on deck stand hip to hip buddy's words: this cap'n [silence] SHIP all herpn' derp un burp alip good work buddy senses fail royally sucks and im glad someone put this on here as proof
The singer is my hero lol. He seems like he may have had a bit to drink before this performance... Haha. But when I saw them earlier this year, they were pretty good. Likely because he was drinking during the performance, not before.
I love Senses Fail but their live show is always hit or miss. I've seen them 5 or 6 times and their performance really all depends on how drunk Buddy is...haha.
i seen em live and they're really good, idk i guess this was a bad day for em, buddy mixed up the verses if u didnt notice. i guess when i saw him he wasnt as drunk or somethin
@Etidfan87 if you listen to the newest ap podcast on itunes with buddy he explains the whole thing. he also says that he isn't embarrassed about anything because he forgot the words to his own song on national television.
@Rolyat360OoOoOOut its not on line, go on itunes, and search AP podcast. there is a whole bunch, Im pretty sure it is #47, it will say buddy nielson next to it tho. its free, but yeah listen to it. Its like a 2 hour interview and he talks about EVERYTHING. Buddy is the man
NBC cant make any punk band sound good the only bands they have ever made sound good were NFG like 2 years ago and Motion City Soundtrack a few weeks after these guys played. HAHA and i remember having a buncha friends over just to watch this and laughing when i forgot the first verse but thats why you gotta love them!

Where can we find this ?
Man I can heavily relate to that, when youre having a panic attack shit just doesn't make sense, its like your brain is melting and suddenly 2 + 1 is 55 and the square root of the colour 9 is yes

Evan Neel Cool thing now. Garrett is actually coming out with an album next year. The little previews he released sounds great
you can tell during the first chorus buddy's thinking, "shit, i fucked up. time to redeem myself"
Dave's stage presence was phenomenal
He messed up the beginning, but this was years ago. When they were only on their second album. They've had many other releases since "Let It Enfold You" came out, and have gotten even better since then, Buddy is a lot older, rid the piercings and tight pants and grew a beard, but the music is still kickass
great two guitars riff at the end and behind the chorus I appreciate it!
Buddy, we know you were going through a tough time! You still had awesome energy!
Jorge Flores He sucked ass lol. Get your shot together Buddy damn.
he looks so young oh my god. ive seen them live twice, 4 years apart, and they're MUCH better now.
today at warped tour , i talked with buddy for about 10-15 mins at his merch table . I asked him about this night and he said he was drunk a little and he was extremely embarressed about messing up the first verse .
BTW they rocked at warped !
I don't get why this performance is getting so much hate. I think it's the best performance of this song by them. minus Mike's screaming.
He forgot the lyrics to the whole first verse…

my god
this may be their best perfomance ever

Dude, how on Earth did you come up with that. That is legendary.

I saw an interview, and yes, Buddy is drunk here because he was nervous. And as you can see by the first thirty seconds of his singing, it probably isn't false. Don't blame him though, they performed on live tv! But he did a decently good job afterwards.
LOL this video kills me. he forgot the whole first verse. classic. love these guys >_
At least there's no click track ....its the real deal

Buddy has mentioned in interviews he was really struggling during this period.

Everyone commenting on this video NEEDS to read this.

luv that double scream at 0:28
You have to watch their other videos live. Buddy (singer) (if you didn't know) was drunk here.
I love it!
Senses Fail + Conan = Life
I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who didn't understand what was going on in the beginning.
Fabulous nonetheless.
They've been around for a while.... and IMO, they're kick ass
i read Buddy shows up live drunk on stage. with all his songs about drinking, this wouldn't surprise me.
ROFL, I love senses fail but the beginning of this video he totally says "DOO BE DOOPY DO" I swear. That got me rolling.
haha forgetting the words, oh well noone is perfect and yet senses fail is still amazing!!!
@Etidfan87 if you listen to the newest ap podcast on itunes with buddy he explains the whole thing.

this must have just been a bad performance for them,
because when i saw them, they were amazing, and buddy was spot on.
oh well. still love them [:
wow? I loved this band. still do, stay in the studio. The guitar and drums sound amazing though
Damn, Dave Miller had such amazing stage presence. Sad he never did anything after he left SF, and that he left SF in the first place.
Rum Is For Drinking After You Perform.

only screaming too.
after this, producers don't really want these bands anymore, except jimmy kimmel :D
watching in 12/2020
buddy is ALWAYS drunk live hahaha
@OppeltDrums
You are awesome. I think if people have such a problem, then they shouldn't watch. It is so ignorant.
He's amazing. Also, why would they replace him? He formed the band.
zebra123 um they didnt
NBC cant make any punk band sound good the only bands they have ever made sound good were NFG like 2 years ago and Motion City Soundtrack a few weeks after these guys played. HAHA and i remember having a buncha friends over just to watch this and laughing when i forgot the first verse but thats why you gotta love them!
