now THIS is a real neil cicierega composing progression. there's finally some overlap in works i can tell how he was struggling but had the music theory right in the beginning (kind of like i did but the opposite haha) (for example the melody to WIERDNESS.mid is just a plain key progression). he didn't just Appear from thin air like a cryptid, this is a real guy. how awesome.

Lol, I fuckin’ owe a lot to these midis, if it wasn’t for them I probably wouldn’t know shit about chords and what not. Making music, I didn’t really know how chords worked and just made whatever sounded good to my ear until I once looked at these midi’s structures through a DAW. I then progressively got good with actual music. An extra ramble over some kid midis, but I gotta give a thanks to these tunes or else I would have probably still been making music with no direction at all.
I listened to the first one then skiped to the last one and the shift in quality gave me whiplash.
Gonna need the CINCO Midi Organizer for this one.

So, the "chorus" of dark.mid (1:45:44) is a crazy chord progression. The chord progression goes from C major to F# Major. C and F# together is a tritone, known to sound very far apart and dissonant. Also, the bass is actually following the root note every time the chord changes, kind of keeping the song stable. I really love that.
Then, in that middle part, it goes to A major, and then into F major, D minor, and then back to F major. What I really love about this is how the melody played higher notes on the harp here are almost staying the same throughout this part, and the Rhodes Piano is following along. I just love playing this song on piano! ^ ^ 💖💗💗

he explained that he was homeschooled and that it only took 2 weeks to prep for the test he had to take to prove he wasn't stupid, so he used like the rest of that time to do shit like this
So basically he was just some kid who had all the time in the world for like a few years and this is what happened

.ogg files take up much less space and sound basically the same
also if you just downloaded all of the .mid files the file size would be SUPER tiny. Midi files don't have any sound in them, they just record what kind of to play at what time.
