50 Years Later: A UCLA Championship Reunion

Bill Walton, Larry Farmer & Jamaal Wilkes got together with coaches and teammates to celebrate 50 years since their 1973 NCAA Title with UCLA. Jill Painter Lopez was there to take in all their memories

My friend...the late Gene Bartow used to joke with me & a few others about the special place Bill Walton had in his memory. It wasn't good...lol. Later on down the road Gene became the Father of UAB ATHLETICS & first coach of the UAB BLAZERS. Gene was a class act & it was a pleasure to know him and his family in Birmingham. He took UAB to 7 straight NCAA Tourneys during what was termed his GLORY YEARS. The Memphis folks loved Gene too...a couple of months back Memphis did a special tribute to him highlighted by a bobble-head doll giveaway. It all seems like yesterday...how the time has flown. As I recall...Gene got the NABC Coach of The Year for that season...it was the first thing on display upon entering his home.

There are hundreds of things l remember from my childhood that amazingly used to upset people that seen unthinkable today. One was married couples on television sleeping in the same bed. Another was college basketball players dunking the basketball.
