Competed against them at this competition right before them heard it walking back and I loved it was rooting for them at grand nats even tho we compete all the time against them
When I was watching this at Tarpons competition one of the screens rebooted mid show. It’s a Raspberry Pi microcomputer running each of the screens (the RPi is a credit-card sized computer). It’s kinda cool how they did it
@@daviddell2266 yeaaahhhh fuck that. When I become a director i think we will stick to the good ol stationary and wheel props 😂 if carolina crown can win without props a HS band can too. 2k?? woah....I'm good
It’s not 2k it’s only 1k and tarpon is one of the hardest working bands in the country, just because they don’t get first all the time doesn’t mean they aren’t amazing many first place bands would never be able to get through a tarpon show
@@daviddell2266 Props are the least of their worries, I don't think you realize how much charter buses, flights, hotel costs, food, entertainment (let's say a band goes to Orlando they'll go to Disney & Universal), etc. It's called fund raising and the local communities also do a great job of donating not only money or materials, but their time and skills to help put a lot together (A parent might be a welder and help out on putting some props together). Also sometimes more successful bands get some sponsorships (not a whole lot but $1K here... $2K there.. it all helps.) Purchasing props 2nd hand from other bands or corps also helps bring down the price. I don't go to Tarpon, but I've built up about $5K worth of fundraisers, car washes, etc. to last the rest of high school (we usually pay $1.5K-$3K a year depending on how far we travel to compete and that's without props). Whatever I don't use I'll pass it along to someone under me. When you travel and compete, you do whatever it takes to get on that bus or plane!!
My band is a 2A band (around 56-60 people) and our band fee is minuscule compared to theirs (ours is around 250$ but depends if your renting and instrument or if you have your Own) our band is Sebring High School Marching Band
Laura Mandarin sane like 250 dollars just to be in the band? Not including other things? At my school it’s prob 250 in total for all your uniform parts, jacket cleaning, and “travel fee” then the instrument renting fee is 50$ a semester. We have a few fees for concert band but not many. We never do props, and we have had the same uniform for 3 or 4 years. We have 35 wind players, 20 guard and about 10-15 percussionists in our marching band.
Daniel K. It’s changed since Band Camp so far this is what I’ve counted in our band 2 Flutes 3 Clarinets 6 Trumpets 2 Mellophones 2 Alto Saxes 1 Tenor Sax 1 Bari Sax 1 Bass Clarinet 5 Baritones 2 Sousaphones 10 Drumline 7 Pit 6 Colorguard
Laura Mandarin we have 1 flute 8clarinets 6 trumpets 6 Mellophones 4 Alto sax 3 Tenor sax 1 baritone 4 trombones 2 sousaphones We don’t have a marching drum line 15 pit(including “drumline”) 17 color guard(had 20 to start 3 quit) 1 drum major
Okay, but I'm genuinely curious on why they decided to put footage of fairydust on one of the screens. Did the band director just see the video and thought it fit well with the theme?
my school doesn't have to pay to be in band. wow. we have like fees included in band but not a fee just to be in band. if I had to pay 2000 to be in band, i wouldn't be in band

Wondering how much was the band fee😂
Kayla Cabrera it’s $2000 that’s why they have fucking machines as props, also there’s like a whole computer behind every one of those things.
