I had a crash like that once. On the flat, slow speed, had a 16" submarine in a bag hanging from the handlebars. Bag starts to rip, sandwich starts to fall, I should have just let it fall. But I reflexively pulled the brakes and somehow tried to hop off the seat at the same time. The bike jacknifed and threw me towards the ground. I lost consciousness and broke my hand badly enough that it needed pins, and is still somewhat wrecked 3 yrs later. Moral of the story is I don't know why this doesn't happen 10X a day in America. There are so many people filming workouts from a bike, riding one-handed. People are going to start breaking their collar bone and hands all the time.
Ari's Dad here! Allow me to explain. 1.) I'm an idiot. ;) 2. I was holding the camera in my right hand and had left hand on the handlebar. 3) I looked in the mirror on my handlebar and noticed a car approaching from behind. 4) I squeezed the left hand brake to slow down and move to side of road directly behind Ari. 5) The left hand brake is the FRONT brake. 6) I squeezed the break too hard and lost my balance. But it was all worth it to be part of Ari's incredible pro triathlete journey!
If you read between the lines, Ari would've podiumed (in his last video, Maine 70.3) had he not dropped his fuel in his last race. I also think he had a flat in another race IMO, this season he's made real progress.
I'm just building too much fatigue with each "crushed" session. The body tends to compensate during big training blocks so I might still hit really good numbers in training but by the time the race comes I have simply built myself too big a whole to taper out of in 7-10 days. Better to gain fitness with moderate sessions than feel like I need to prove fitness with huge sessions. For example I did very similar sessions to this indoor brick last November except I was less fit then and I did the final 60mins at 340w (vs. 327w in the video). Got to the race (Indian Wells) and struggled just to finish. Came in 3rd to last.
Imagine if the PTO or Ironman assigned a HoverAirX1 type drone to follow each pro athlete racing in one of their big races (or at least the top 10 most significant athletes). The amount of motorbikes on course could be cut to a fraction AND the amount of race footage available to the Tv Coverage producers would be increased by an order of magnitude. For once, the viewers would be able to watch the race unfold in realtime: split screens of the leader/s, the main chase pack and then the likes of Sam, Lionel and Trevor playing pac-man from behind. This could be a real game changer and really turn the sport into a genuine spectator friendly event!
Technology is probably a few years away. Mainly battery life, HOVERair x1 only goes for like 12 minutes per fully charged battery. Even the fat DJI ones only go about 20 minutes. And it would only work on the run, not bike. Average speeds of ~28mph with max speeds of over 50 is too much for anything (that I know of) that isn't a specialized FPV drone.
@@archmdz I was wondering whether drones could be teamed with motorbikes. So a relay / swam of slightly bigger, more powerful drones launching from following motorbikes for several minutes at a time, then coming back to dock and recharge on the bike. I wonder whether something like that might be feasible within a year (as the technology is moving so rapidly in this space). In the military aerospace sector ‘manned/unmmaned’ teaming is where it is at, and civilian spin offs only seem to be progressing a few months behind.
Nerdbelt! I've got a discount code "ARI20" at nerdbelts.com, I recommend the V3 although I am wearing the V1 in this video (I got the V3 right after and it's so good). Can't recommend it highly enough. Going to hopefully have Nerdbelts on as an official sponsor very soon.

I CANNOT figure out how your dad crashed his bike. I've rewatched it like 6 times 🤣

Glad you got back in the saddle in one piece!
Lol my mum stacked just like that 3wks ago 😂 I was running also
Good sport (dad) to let you air that. Now make it a short.
Good luck
Any mental/physical ideas on why you think when you are crushing workouts that you race worse?

Why did you make your poor dad film you when you had the drone? 😅
