    Hey everyone! So, sorry for jumping to the conclusion about the Winsor & Newton Viridian, possibly adding PG7 to their Viridian! It lifts beautifully, so I was completely wrong to doubt them. Thank you to @Renee L. Marks for reminding me how to check! I do love that true Viridian is non-staining. Also, thank you to @Chris for reminding me to add the correction, and not to be so quick to think brands are shady. ;D

    the milkiness is due to certain types of stones having a dustier finish after being grinded which gives them a duller/less saturated color value esp when stones have different grades of color and impurities throughout their batches, a single batch of lapis lazuli stones would often times sort into multiple different grades of pigment purities, sometimes up to twenty+ different grades , hence why their lapis lazuli and vivianite might be on the greyer side. Other brands who offer the same color, you will notice a similarity with all of them; lapis lazuli is often harder to rewet and harder to achieve saturation, but higher grade pigments/stones will yield stronger color variations. RS's version just so happens to be a "weaker" variety but may be sought out by people who are looking for that type of lapis lazuli.

    Hmmm, some of my very favorite watercolor brands💕 Lazurite is not exactly the same as Lapis Lazuli, it is one of the three minerals that make up the Lapis stone. Maybe that is why it is so light. A. Gallo has a really nice Lapis, as does Michael Harding’s new line of watercolors at Jackson’s. It is a little pricey, but it comes in a 15ml tube. Thanks for sharing!

    • @TheGypsyChic1

      Thank you!! Good to know! Yes, I was interested in it because it was an earth pigment. I do love the A. Gallo version much more. Have you tried the new line of Micheal Harding yet? I haven't read how they are different. I'm so enjoying the handmade paints from Isaro and A. Gallo, I haven't looked into them. Thanks for sharing your favorites, we have the same taste!

      @@TheGypsyChic1 I received the Micheal Harding on a really cold day and was so excited to try that Lapis. It was really gloopy and weird. Then I realized it has honey in it, and felt foolish. I am giving them a few days to acclimate before I try again🤓

    Stephanie, true PG18 Veridian is non staining. PG7 Phthalo green is very staining. That's how you test it. Many companies have been making highly pigmented Veridian watercolor paint. The most pigmented being MGraham.

    Great colours! On a point of order, on your swatch sheet you label Rose Doré as comprising PY 19 and PY 97. I think the first pigment should read (as on my tube of W&N): PV 19 (Quinacridone violet) - The "Y" and "V" transposition appears widely on the internet (even on print-related websites) and is very confusing. Interestingly, I could not find any information about a pigment PY19, except where the transposition had been made. One commentator even suggested it may have been wrongly labelled on some tubes of W&N Rose Doré. I would be interested in your, or your viewers', thoughts...

    • @annjohnson73

      I was able to check my tube, and it very clearly says PY19 and PY97. So, now I'm curious how often paints are mislabelled? I did check their website, and it states PV19 and PY97 for the pigment info for Rose Dore.

      @@annjohnson73 Thanks, Ann! I do find them a bit difficult to read, but my tube clearly says PY19 and PY97. My tube has incorrect information, and I'm not sure how often this happens. @Chris is correct the pigment info per W&N website should be PV19 and PY97.

I don't like granulation in my work as a rule but yes I do like to use the effect now and then. Great video! Kimberly Crick on RUclips made a video on the top watercolors from Winsor and Newton- I have all of them and I absolutely agree with her list..My favorites are: Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Turquoise Light, Cobalt Blue Deep, Cobalt Green Deep, Cadmium Scarlet, Transparent Orange, and Smalt. Winsor and Newtons Cobalt Green Deep and Cobalt Blue Deeo are super granulating- Smalt is really granulating as well. Kimberly Crick also makes a video about Viridian PG18- all the best brands and such..her favorite is M Grahams Viridian. I agree with you Winsor and Newtons Viridian looks like it's been beefed up with PG7 for sure! Anyway such a great video, thanks so much for sharing. Much love ❤️

      Oooh, how did I miss that one?!? I love Kim's videos!!! I just try not to watch videos about products I will likely be reviewing, etc...as I don't want to borrow any of her info that she works so hard on. I do watch after I make my video, though for sure!!
      Thank you!! I have Smalt in my current wishlist, I will make sure to add that to my next order! I have the rest and they are lovely. I have not compared them to other brands. Yes, I saw Kim's Viridian video and it was great...but did not include many brands. I did not realized how much I loved it until the Schmincke Super Granulating colors came out. I love it for the granulation, and non-staining. A kind viewer reminded me I could test the W&N to see if it's staining. Duh...I feel silly for not thinking of that! LOL So, I will be testing it later today. I think a lot of people probably love it with PG7 since it is so pigmented. I'm glad there are lots of options for everyone. Thanks so much for joining me in all my fun art adventures! Much love back!

    re: Winsor and Newton Professional Watercolour Viridian: It is listed as a single pigment PG18, as you said, and I have just swatched my (slightly dry, tube) paint, producing a beautiful, typically granulating viridian - I can see no sign of that phthalocyanine-esque blackish pool shadowing we can see as you paint out yours. Could you have received a Cotman (W&N student grade) Viridian Hue pan, supplied in error, perhaps?
    It is difficult to understand the difference in appearance, even allowing for the distortion of video, and Dr. Oto Kano's comparison here on RUclips did not seem to show the "phthalo effect". The only additional ingredients on the safety data sheet are Boron oxide (more specifically Diboron trioxide (EC 215-125-8, CAS 1303-86-2) and 2-methyl-1,2-benzothiazol-3(2H)-one (MBIT), an anti-bacterial agent.
    The information on Jackson's (presumably from W&N) affirms the single pigment across the range of the professional viridian :

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  Год назад +2

      Yes, I was using the pigment information off the side of the tube. The tube I painted from was from the Winsor and Newton Professional line. I only have the pan versions of the Cotman line, so I'm positive it was the professional. I must have just used a large amount of pigment, as it re-wet very beautifully. I did test the swatch after publishing the video. The W&N Viridian lifts nicely, so I no longer believe it has PG7 added. But, I should be more careful before jumping to conclusions. I also should have remembered that I could test it that way! Lol Luckily, a very kind viewer reminded me. I've just recently lost trust in some companies due to Daniel Smith, etc sadly. Thank you for the reminder for me to not be so quick to jump to conclusions!

    • @annjohnson73
      @annjohnson73 Год назад +1

      Personally, I’m thankful you are a bit skeptical of companies! The swatches do look like they have added PG7. Daniel Smith has misrepresented their Primatek line, and W&N wouldn’t surprise me if they did...since moving production of their Cotman line and markers to China.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  Год назад

      @@annjohnson73 Thank you! Yes, I was skeptical due to DS, but also some recent paints from W&N missing pigment info. But, I was wrong and shouldn't jump to conclusions.
