While listening to Follow Him, it was suggestested to leave that podcast and come here to this speech. The bottom line is we are to love without judging others. Twice he said to love without compromising our standards. We can be kind, loving and accepting of all children of our Heavenly Father, without compromising what we believe. What I heard touched my heart.
Thank you for this inspired wonderful speech. I watched it right after watching Eric Huntsman on the Come Follow me video with Hank Smith and John Bytheway. Both of these videos really uplifted me and brought me understanding and joy. And yes, trying to be like Jesus is hard work and requires one to go through things we'd most likely never choose on our own.
Loved this devotional. Sorely needed today. Also read it because of the suggestion by John and Hank's FollowHim podcast -which was also excellent! Thanks for wonderful words of wisdom!
It is really inspiring to hear this kind of voice in these talks. While I know our leaders really feel an urgency to convey how important it is to live the gospel and repent, I think love is far more effective to bring people unto Christ unless you have a completely unrepentant sinner who is pretending to be a good person, but is purposely doing wrong and hiding it. And then maybe they need a "call to Jesus" moment. But I rather think this type of talk is far more effective for just about anyone. I loved it.
I didn't hear many "hard sayings" ... what I heard was him hitting all the PC points of our day. Where are the President Bensons, Brigham Youngs, and the Joseph Smiths of our day? Those not afraid to teach the actual "hard sayings" of Jesus Christ? THAT is what our world needs in order to be prepared for the Second Coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ, who cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance... that's what people struggling with sinful tendencies need to hear. And the importance of repenting and turning to Him, away from sins and temptations. Yes, God loves us. We are His children. That's why He gives us commandments. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come.
The II LDS Archives here on RUclips is great if you are looking for truth and not having your ears tickled. I recommend starting with his video on the Parable of the Ten Virgins and Faith Like the Brother of Jared.
I entirely understand where you’re coming from, but I have learned from personal experience that shoving gospel doctrine down the throat of someone who already knows it and doesn’t want to hear it, or just doesn’t want to hear it period, is more likely to turn them against you and the gospel. Yes, there is a balance that needs to be found and exercised, like in all things, but we absolutely must keep the doors open to love, and that’s not what’s happening when a person feels misunderstood and is constantly being chastened. The message is called “hard sayings” because it is very hard to accept another person’s agency and to love them anyway when it contradicts our beliefs, but that’s what God asks us to do. So we actually do need messages like this one, as well as messages like you’re talking about, and we need to use discernment to know which to apply and when.
This message is so needed. To love as the Saviour loves is one of the most difficult things to do. It truly is one of the ‘hard sayings’ and directive's given to any follower of Christ. Love and law in equal measure
Where does it say that you or I are the ones to determine if they are sinning and what they need to do to return to Heavenly Father, I think Br. Huntsman message is not about allowing or condoning sin, it is about us loving our fellow man without conditions. That is the second great commandment and I think he is passionately explaining that we are not justified in our attitudes towards others because they are sinners or not. Since we are all sinners, we are on a road to recovery.
When it comes to loving our neighbors there are no outsiders
Excellent devotional.
Thank you! A beautiful thoughtful truth filled talk that offers hope to each child of God.
I am grateful for these sort of open and honest, yet faith-inspiring, dialogues within the church
I wish more of our music was like that beautiful performance.

he was my teacher, I loved every minute of his class.
Best and most needed BYU devotional.
I hear his words, but more importantly, I feel the sincere and genuine care and concern in his voice. What a great speech!
Wow. Like Elder Holland. Very powerful!

Good stuff here
I'm here because of Hank Smith & John Bytheway! 😉
Same😊
Fun talk. For a second perspective, I’d highly suggest the conference talk entitled “The Iron Rod” by President Harold B. Lee.
the thumbnail for this video should be updated so something a little more inviting.

I’ve been listening to a lot of 1970’s and 80’s GC talks lately. I miss those leaders.
