My first RTS games were Command and Conquer Red Alert 1/2, and still, almost 30 years later, I haven't found an RTS game that hits me the same way. Maybe Tempest Rising will scratch that itch.
"Kirov reporting!"
It's not the games, it's your first contact with games that produced that unique feeling. It's never coming back but won't stop you enjoying your hobby when you get the chance. 😄
Yeah when i first played Dune as a wee one, the magic of that combined with the Books and a kids imagination, better than anything the latest tech can show me on a screen today :)
Same. Red Alert 1 was the first RTS I ever played and was blown away at the time. None of the C&C games since have done it for me (maybe Tiberian Sun, somewhat), I hope this is at least near that level.
Then Global Conflagration and D.O.R.F.F could be two potential candidates for your ‘watchlist’.
🎩
"Bob's your auntie... well, probably these days" 🤣
And yes, I agree that the live action cutscenes looked goooood 😀
I lol'd so hard at that.
The instant I saw this, a voice saying “Unit ready” along with the sound effect of cash counting down played in my head.
The third faction will be the (not)SCRIN. Or by the look of the tempest, some plant based alien lifeform.
Will they use plant shaped C4?
This is my prediction. The third faction will be aliens called the scran.
This looks good. Hope they don't go overboard with balancing. A certain degree of imbalance can make RTS games more fun imo.
There's also another indie game in the works called "D.O.R.F." which uses the old voxel aesthetics like Command and Conquer which I am looking forward to.
So excited for this. I loved the CC series back in the day.
a 2080 is not a toaster by any means, and for it to drop frames here is unacceptable
100% agree
1080p at max settings I agree. Anything above that resolution I can accept nowadays, red alert 3 was fairly beefy from what I remember when that was released. Just have to adjust or be prepared to put forward cash to upgrade parts
damn right if 2080 a toaster i dont even know what my pc is then, spendt toilet papir i guess would be it.
I guess I'm out of luck with my 1080 unless I run it at lower quality on my 1440p monitor
He said "and I was playing it on maximum" - meaning, you can turn down the settings to get better performance
Regardless, it's a 5 year old/2 generation old card, it isn't that special in 2023
so is like the new C&C that EA failed to make, time to download this!
Or Microsoft with Age of Empire IV.
04:40 - I mainly think it's budget constraints. Regardless of the cheesiness and the camp of those live-action FMVs, making those still costed alot(actors and production cost), and it might costs millions now. And I think people tend to often, and quickly overlook this; But dev teams under 3DRealms, just like New Blood, are mainly indie. They don't have the budget to make C&C-tier production value across the board, so I think it's a wiser move to focus on making a good core game first before everything else.
Command and Conquer is back baby!!
Tempest looks so different from what I played as a child.
Really looking forward to this & Broken Arrow.
Ivana Milicevic has aged BEAUTIFULLY. What a fox...
CnC Tempest Rising looks good
This is the game I've been looking for!
"Bobs your Auntie" - Mac, thank you for the chuckle 🤣
they might do the custom weapons like the did in the excelllent Kanes Wrath with 'sub-factions'
Have you ever tried "warzone 2100"? It's an older RTS but you could actually build your own units and defensive structures. I had the PS1 version and it was awesome but lagged so bad on the last few levels prob because it was 3D.
There's a free open source version online nowadays.
looks really cool, I think It's set in the same universe as Ion Fury (great build engine game) and Bombshell. Not saying those have memorable worlds or stories but it's interesting nonetheless
Where's the Armored Core 6 review? It's a mech game for crying out loud!
My first C&C game was Generals and I had so much fun with it. Never played the other ones but I'm hoping this one turns out just as great.
FOR the GLA xD
I loved and grew up on C&C and Tiberium Sun was my fav. Tried the demo and very much loved it. Can't wait for full release.
However there are a few things i didn't like.
- The unit cap like in Starcraft. WHYYYY?! :(
- That you can't rebind your camera rotate to your mouse.
- Graphically it looks awesome but some units have this strange cartoonish plastic toy texture feeling we know from games like planetary annihilation. Looks a little bit....cheap(?)......not serious(?)
- Unit pathfinding really needs a rework
This game looks likes the thing I needed I didnt know I needed
Always enjoyed those Red Alert cutscenes
No Frank Klepacki, but looks awesome, can't wait. Remember 2000 when RA2 launched? Man it was fukken insane, I lived in Perth and went to comp festivals where it was open free lan parties everyone playing RA2 against each other, hilarious. Good times. Looking forward to Tempest Rising.
Best indie RTS out atm is Regiments, which is constantly being updated and added on by one guy. Great game
My complaint would been unit cap but they said you can buy a pretty sizable army before you reach the limitation. Also, they might make mods to let you build a bigger army.
It's such a shame that EA squandered the Command & Conquer IP completely. An absolute travesty and a waste. Those games (translated for Mack: them games) were such amazing RTS games. The Red Alert series, Tiberian Sun, the Generals series... man Westwood was such a fantastic game studio. Bought up and killed by EA. RIP.
I loved c&c 3 which was even amazing on console but then we got that c&c 4 which was absolute bullshit, that really killed it off
I'm excited that the major RTS streams are all getting something new with strong influences from past classics:
C&C -> Tempest Rising
Total Annihilation/Supcom -> Beyond All Reason (aka BAR)
Starcraft -> Stormgate
Of the three, BAR is the most playable at this point in it's development (early access more or less) and has a fanatical development team. Highly recommended if you like an intoxicating mix of strategy and tactical play.
Out of all the RTS in development right now (which all look great), this one I'm most excited about
Where's the Armored Core review?
I'm guessing that Mack ran out of bells to toss around, considering his comment in a recent vid
@@novotd443 Haha fair play, I'm only curious cos I'm sure I saw him mention something about it going live Friday night
Blocked by 2 additional layers of DRM...
the DRM kept him from destroying more bells
@@novotd443what was the comment? Curious to see his review. Consodering that is a great game, even many MW players rave about it and gameplay is really solid too.
Third faction is obviously ALIENS but rising up from inside the planet :)
I just wish they had proper rotation for buildings. 9/10
From this you really get the C & C vibe
No Armored core 6? 😞
This truly is the best year for gaming.
Somebody get Frank Klepacki to score this mofo and I think we've got something!
*uses psychic skills*
The 3rd faction is aliens.
How do I know? Because they told me, muhaha!
Hey, Mac!! Just got caught up on your vids. The house looks lovely. How long have you had the wee German Shepard pup? What's her name?
Yes sir... On my way... Affirmative...
I saw the characters talking something about GDF and I was like oh hey thats the military force in Ion Fury. Then it clicked that 3D Realms made both games. Does Tempest Rising take place in Ion Fury's universe?
YES PLEASE! i need some C&C back in my life. I just "frustration quit" AC6 because of the Ibis boss in the last chapter of the game. It stopped being fun dying to BS yesterday, tonight was the last straw. The game is generally fun but some bosses are just infuriating and I don't get off on that.
Finally you've looked at it. After I've mentioned it many times!! 🤣👌
If more game companies stopped making micro transaction crap and just cloned old great games I'd be ok with that
Tim Curry shouting SPAAACE was peak video game acting.
He was hilarious, totally nailed it, I remember after completing a mission hoping Tim Curry was in a long cut scene.
Did you know that no UK media / youtubers got an early review copy of Starfield. This mean you def didn't haha. Looking forward to the review.
Played the hell out the demo and cant wait for this game.
Dune II generation here. Bring it on!
So tempted by this game.
I miss them babes 😋
i was exited for this game ever since i saw the release trailer, then i saw the first PvP gameplay and I was less exited.
i did play the demo and it has big potential but it also has big problems with wayfinding and these soilder units look all the same and i can't differentiate them from eachother which is a bad thing.
It was on my No.1 best RTS list this year. Now it's Men of War 2 which i've also played all betas and is releasing on the 20th of September. It's probably the best RTS that we've got since the last 10 years or so. yes it's that good, you should check it😉
there is zero pvp gameplay shown at all lol
@@ronuss the developers did a PvP showcase, it's on YT🙃
Im so excited by this and DORF.
2:23 brilliant 😂
Beyond all reason ... TOP for me.
You'll see more at Realms Deep 30th September
How is the balance of units? Because i see in the vid, 40 soldiers shooting at 1 guy and it taaks them 5 seconds? But same group destroys a tank in 2 seconds?
Mack Quantic Dream have released Under the Waves, can you give it a quick butchers. 👍
Red alert, Warcraft, AOE bring back RTS! My first videogames I played
I heard from a Blizzard employee last year that StarCraft 3 is en route.
yea we'll see about that...
That massive flame thrower tank concentrating double barrel fire blasts on a single person for an extended period and still not killing him while five or six other people shoot the tank with rifles and blow it up look silly.
That is a special super unit, not a regular infantry.
Fair enough.
That UI is so good, a main turnoff initially for an RTS is bad UI
and Fanny's you're Uncle!
Came here to say thank you and thumbs up your video aside from not giving fly piss about RTS.
I'm starved for this kind of game.
Modern style RTS hasn't appealed to me nearly as much as the classic CC, StarCraft and WarCraft 3 ones. I wanted to love Grey Goo when it came out like 10 years ago but it just didn't land for me. Hopefully this one does. Hopefully Stormguard does as well.
Armored core 6 ?
"It looks great"
...and no Soviet ladies with da big bazungaz!!!! 😭🤣
Will you review Armored Core?
Still kind of missing the Nicholas Worth and Tim Curry action
4:56 And i thought my taste changed over tiime ...Nope :D
They are coming out with a new Terminator game an rts.
Big Tiberian Sun vide.
I would fucking buy a gaming laptop just for this game.... lol.
A PC with a 2080 is now a toaster machine LOL! A 2080 is still a high end card.
TRY zero-K, its insane madness based on command and conquer but with 16v16 battles and terraforming
The only thing i can see wrong with it is using CGI for the cut scene bits, bring back FMV.
FMV with Cheesy Porn Actresses
awesome, downloading!! :)
Demo was a bit short but good. I want to see a bit more to have a better idea.
It's not made by 3DRealms though, just published. As for real people in videos, they didn't have the budget.
Mack, did you get a Starfield key. Can't wait for your review to show the real state of Starfield. It sounds like there's something XBOX is trying to keep some stuff under the radar to get as many buyers as possible before the "news" gets out
Where’s the armored core 6 review Macdaddy???
Curious on your thoughts relating to ac6, you've always been giving non fanboy outsider feedback on from games so please review it
Mack's going soft not calling this game out for not holding 60 fps.
Been on my wish list a while
Looks great, still no sign of Metal Slug tactics even though its announced for 2023
They may have blatantly been copying C&C... but y'know, everyone is thinking the same "yeah well duh, if EA insists on not making a good games any more, then someone else will". Even if the makers of Tempest Rising would just outright say "yeah we ripped off C&C" then I'd say "well thank you because clearly, EA wasn't going to satisfy us"
Ironically, but EA also announced a new C&C a couple of days ago... for smartphones 🤣
Pathfinding and optimization need work, hopefully we will have campaign with two playable sides, graphics feels really downgraded compared to the first reveal. It doesn't try anything new so i'm only mildly excited.
Looks awesome!
Seems fun, but the combat does seem a tad bit slow. Takes a while to take down a single soldier.
Looks a lot like StarCraft 2 graphics wise.
Can we get a retro review of Warhammer Dawn of War series
I played the demo. unfortunately i find the game a bit too basic and simple but its still good to see more rts games
Great vid
I thought 3D Realms were long dead!?
Age 4 was the last big AAA RTS. COH3 seems liked a flop.
AoE4 is not bad in my opinion. Not good as AoE2 back in the days, but it's cool game.
Never played C&C, im more aoe guy, but i want to try this.
2080 toaster machine..damn! 2 gen difference is now toaster
Bob's your auntie hahaha.
Looks nice
Won't care if its 95% copy paste, just have at least 1 original idea to make it different and I'll be happy to play a C&C clone, its been a decade
