Having played probably every Assassins Creed game and reviewed most of them, this one is the most disappointing of them all. Take the eagle for example, it spots a lot of things for you so you need not explore everywhere on the map, it never really bothered me before as the maps were huge, this map is not. Then we have X-Ray vision, it should not be in a game like this as it's just a wall hack, these used to be called cheats, now they are a feature, thats how far down the gutter games have gone. Then we have the whistle mechanic, you can hide pulling any number of guards into the same trap then press a button when they get close, insta kill. Why not write some code that only the first guard will fall for this trick? Finally we have the teleport kill which literally kills up to three enemies without you even touching the controls. How is this fun? What is wrong with reviewers and gamers these days? Expect more of this from AAA clueless companies.
You clearly haven't played an assassin's creed before, not sure you played this one from what you got wrong of the story, the map is plenty big enough? We don't want a massive map full of trees, it's also not AAA game. You are just doing what your sad channel does which is hate on everything, the game came out yesterday and you played it all yea right.

I find in funny that Ubisoft said the reason you teleport around stabbing people is because the Animus can't keep up with how fast your character is. If they put as much thought into their games as they do into their excuses they might have a half decent product instead of this crap

Feel bad for anyone having to write for these games. Having to force the nonsensical lore as well as try to tell a character arc.
I was fine with x-ray vision in Batman Arkham games, where you were role-playing badass armed with high-tech stuff who always has the upper hand. I'm not fine with it in nearly every AAA game after Arkham Asylum...
But in that game, it balances it out by making the enemies tougher, esp if they have guns. Here, the enemies are frail and weak.
@@mobiusraptor7 Agreed. Also they loved to take your vision away or fuck with it, especially in Knight.
Not to mention its canon from the dark knight movies.
Yeah I hate xray vision too but for me in cyberpunk 2077 when you are playing netrunner character with high tech eye implants and high skill hacking skills it makes sense, its immersive and im all for it if done right but this is just stupid
The thing is that the x-ray vision is essentially wall hacks that take all the "fear" out of stealthing an area, you know exactly where everything is and how to deal with it. Even dishonored made you use it at a cost but when I did a no-powers run, the stealth was even better due to blind corners and not knowing if you would get caught unless you went in with extreme caution.
Even the eagle vision by itself was never about recon or wall-hacks, it was more or less a way to highlight things like the target from enemies, or collectibles, it was the game's way of not having to make the target have a massive "kill me" sign/outfit, which made it more fun
Remember when in AC 1 you had to travel from city to city doing recon missions before you had to assassinate your target and it was always in crowded areas so no matter what you did the guards would chase after you and even after that the city will be on high alert until you rest up. Hell getting through the city gates was cool because you had options to pass the guards either over them, rescue scholars to blend in with or simply fight them.
Been thinking of going back to play the first one, a true next gen game of its time
The first game was cr*pped on at the time. It got underwhelming reviews & people hated it. It's only Ass Creed 2 with the Italian setting & cool gadgets which made the series popular.
"Back to its roots" is just a marketing trick saying "we want to make a cheaper game, so we'll make you think there's a good reason for slashing the budget & reusing assets".
Still, I'll probably play this new one the same way I unfortunately play most of the sh*t released these days. But at least I recognize it is... sh*t.
Remember in AC2 when they did away with that shit because nobody liked doing it and the game was better off for it?
yeah, in AC1 you actually felt like an assassin being hunted. as the series progressed they strayed further and further from that more 'grounded in realism' vibe to the cartoony over the top gameplay we have today.
I hate the messy UI form Ubisoft games, Wall Hacks BS and glow everything and points of interest everywhere.. sigh.. why do devs treats gamers like idiots?
The consumers must consume
"Ay yo, you played the newest thing?"
Consoom Ass Creed, get excited for next Ass Creed
couldn't agree more sir
When this game was first announced there was literally a barrage of RUclips channel and media outlets all parroting the same line about Assassins Creed going "back to its roots". Clearly a paid marketing ploy to hammer it into the brain of all the normies that preorder games.
I don't know what's worse these days, the gaming companies or the masses of brain-dead consumers that believe anything being marketed to them.
Souless scammy "reviewers" who lie for profit. Saddest thing of all

Both, why not both.

We did watch The Matrix ( the first one) on a giant projector.

don't buy/read game magazine reviews, they are in a circle jerk relationship with big publishers(they are getting free copies, free products etc) so they'll never give low scores for AAA games unless they are ultra buggy/glitchy at launch, and thats all for the technical issues so for those outlets every game is awesome unless they are in a unplayable state and even then they'll give stupid scores like 6/10... they gave cyberbug 2077 6/10 at launch srsly... imagine giving 6/10 for an unfinished full price product...
just watch honest youtubers(which are sadly very few) who consistently give the right scores for the games, otherwise your wallet will getting screwed over and over, the gaming is like a minefield right now unless you are a rich mf and don't care hundreds of wasted bucks montlhy.
i think they give them a 7/10 to maintain "good relations" with big publishers and therefore early promotional access to their games and therefore hot content and therefore $$$
wow Dungeon Keeper, brings back memories, good taste !
4:11 This assassination style is exactly like Shadow of Mordor when you go into Wraith world and use shadow strike, an attack which allows you (Talion) to teleport to an enemies' location and quickly kill them
Ubisoft copying game mechanics from other games because they are creatively bankrupt, whats new?
To be fair they copied them first
Playing Shadow of War now and love the stuff you can do in this game. I like to be able to go full melee or complete stealth while having each of those abilities equal to one another. Assassinating in crowds doesn't work out well so instead you can blow shit up by them, drop bags of bees or raw meat to turn those dogs on everyone. I love all the options they give you and the parkour/traversing mechanics are really fun. Certainly not true to life but neither is this AC game. He has a bird he can see through, X-ray vision and teleporting abilities.
This mechanic was used in many games before this one, but in those there was either a fantasy or sci-fi setting giving at least a plausable explanation for why the character could do that. AC games were always supposed to be at least semi-realistic, but i guess in the last few iterations they tossed that out the window and went with full fantasy settings and skills.
A stealth game with X-Ray Vision is like a shooter with enemy-seeking bullets (and X-Ray folkin vision, LOL).
I remember 1 or 2 games where you could guide your bullet through air , into enemy face. It was deff in bulletstorm and maybe in Rage. Bending bullets around corners was really fun. Really pisses me off when a shooter has loads of guns and none are very good.
I don't think there's a single stealth game (from a AAA studio) released post 2010 that doesn't have x-ray vision, honestly.

@@chancellorpalp169 or I can choose not to buy this shitty game. That's the choice I made.
It is a return to form. It's just that after 16 years nostalgia has made everyone forget how bad the initial assassins creed games were. Almost everything Mack complains about in mirage was started in an early assassins creed. Xray vision, whistiling to attract guards, the braindead AI they never fixed, small open worlds, press button to win gameplay... All assassins creed. And then it poisoned the entire industry. Sad to see you(and him) fooled by ubisoft's marketing, but I can't really blame you. They've spent an inordinate amount of money convincing everyone that there was a golden age of assassins creed where the games were good. It's all lies. It's always been a lie fuelled by nostalgia, marketing and players unable to admit that a cherished game from their youth isn't actually good.
@@spartanbeef9491 I wasn't really fooled by the marketing since I saw the red flags and didn't buy the game, but no, this is not a return to form. Go play Assassin's Creed 1, then play this, and try to tell me with a straight face that they're the same.
X-Ray vision was in the OG AC aswell, but you weren't allowed to move while using it. 2 pretty much made it an easy mode.
Pretty sure it just highlighted enemies, not full x-ray vision
X-Ray Vision was first included in AC4 Black flag, where you could tag highlated enemies. Before that it wasnt a thing
@@1001pierreI want to say that Revelations did tagging first, but that might have only been highlighting the guard's routes instead of the guards themselves.

I remember TENCHU, where the enemies had XRay vision, and you didn't even have draw distance, so you couldn't see them even tho they were there.
In fairness, the game was set at night, so the draw distance became like Silent Hill's fog; the limitations were made into assets.

Indie games are still good. AAA is mostly garbage.
Love your reviews, one of the few I trust. Thank you!
Yeah... My reaction to the release of this game was "oh, this is out already? I really don't care!" They canceled the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising for this... Probably the best game Ubisoft released in the past decade...
Damn they were already going to do a sequel, diden't they just release that game? felt like it has not been that long...
They did the same thing with the Division 2 expansion. It was supposed to be the free DLC for year 1, but when the game didn't generate as much cash as the soulless suits wanted they hived it off and charged for it.
haha, but they fucked up time and time again on the development of div 2 just like division 1... Don't get me started on the...redoing of the loot...I tried making a HC character besides the game is Not made for HC the items were boring as fuck. They went from maybe a college lvl of understanding loot to fucking kindergarten. I knew it was going to be a mistake, but here we are...
What are you on about the episodes in year one where free.... and it was said this was only in the first year... this got said from the beginning. You wanted that content after that first year you had to pay... so or you miss understood or got wrong information....
Everytime I consider upgrading my pc, I come here to be reminded that no amount of new games released is actually worth the bother. Thank you Mack
I'm looking fwd to AC being set in 2023 London where you play as a certain type of teenager in a postcode gang, mugging, looting shops and knifing other teens
“In doing so, He piss off Darth Vader”
Classic 😂
Having watched a bit of this game, I have to say the VERY FIRST Assassin's Creed, while being a glorified tech demo was WAY BETTER than this. More content, more and varied enemy types and a variety of locations that looked and felt authentic of their time and place.
The original AC was pretty solid, the only issue was that it was trying to be "slow and calculating" while the game didn't allow it (most didn't at the time to be fair), so you had tedious gameplay but by all means the story was a solid "this is what it was like to be an assassin". I really doubt the people in charge ever played the original games because you could definitely feel these effects in the games, even if you were almost entirely tone-deaf, the fact they don't know this shows the extent of their "reflection on the series"
More content my ass.
You sound stupid saying this. I just beat AC1 this summer and there’s no way AC1 is better than mirage. Play through AC1 and you’ll see that the game itself is a glorified tech demo with jank mechanics. It’s a solid 6-7/10 game.
This game not authentic? You muslim or know enough about abbasid islamic culture?
@@iggyr3689 I am not a Muslim, an Irish Catholic actually.
And I DO happen to know something of the history of the Crusades, and the Abbasid Caliphate. But that is not relevant here. Comparing the difference of the very first Assassin's Creed to this offering is like night and day.
The first game is far grittier, realistic in it's depiction of life at the time, showing something of the disparity between regular people and the ruling elite.
Also the differences in outlook between the Christian Crusaders (riven as they were by internal rivalries) and their Muslim counterparts.
Also the enemies in the game were far more varied in type and class and were on the whole a harder challenge than those presented by Mirage.
I would say that Ubisoft took a more 'Hollywoodesque' choice in how to depict Baghdad and the Abbisid Caliphate in Assassin's Creed Mirage. I do however give them credit that they did not quite over use their assets as they did in all three of the previous Assassin's Creed games and all of the Far Cry Series.
lastly, I just feel that they went at Assassin's Cred: Mirage half heartedly. Had they combined the gritty realism of the first game with a judicious blending of the mechanics of both they would have had a hit on their hands. A successful return to form.
Respectfully Yours, R
P.S. I do appreciate that you took time to respond to my initial post. Thank you.
How did the stealth genre go so backwards? Thief in 1998 had you using mostly sound to found out where enemies were, x ray vision is a cop out, they can't be bothered creating actual stealth systems
People who played Thief have an attention span that is 1000x longer than the target audience of AC
The little "X ray" song got me off guard! hahahaha
Thank you, Mack. Entertaining as always to boot.
Mack you can turn off X-Ray in the game's interface settings, its called "Enemy Proximity". In fact, you can turn off pretty much every single hud element. I turned off most of it and I'm hella immersed. You actually have to think when stealthing around. Turning off Enemy Proximity is absolutely the way to go imo
As with a lot of AAA studios, the original talent is gone and so, to fill their shoes, these companies bring in new people that were not hired based on merit but their arbitrary characteristics.
This is the result.
Sure, there is much more other issues too but when they started down that aforementioned road, it'll be nearly impossible for them to find their way back, unless they get rid of the dead weight.
Now Trudeau is mandating such policies by law, so yeah, you're not looking great, Ubisoft.
Definitely diversity quotas. It’s happening even in the military and finance. People being hired not on their skill or ability, but how their diversity quotas meet the government requirements. In the context of gaming there’s also a heavy focus on graphics now instead of gameplay. Every game is gorgeous but shallow as a puddle. Just so they Digital Foundry can give them a reach around.
A studio can loss many devs but when it you no longer have key people is when they tend to fall apart you see it with many studios.
What policies are you talking about? This is the first I've heard of it and I'd like to learn more

Well I'm enjoying it, lovely recreation of historic Baghdad and after the last few Assassins Creed its nice that they've actually done a proper city again as they've been terrible in the recent larger games.
The cities in Odyssey are far better. In fact, Odyssey is probably the best AC game in terms of gameplay. AC2 is the best for story and I would maybe say Unity is the best for feeling like an Assassin.
It's not even ac how can you say that copy paste rpg slop is the best ac gameplay at least origins was interesting but still same bland formula. Delusional
@eldoriyah8236 Because it was. All the non rpg ac games are piss easy. All you have to do is parry and counter. Talk about the most boring combat ever, holy shit.

2:41 So good to hear it again after all this time !
that ark whistle was impresive
I know you felt kinda meh about MGS 5 but man I wish more games made the enemy ai as inquisitive as in that game. Makes pulling off successful stealth all that much more satisfying.
My main issue, in regards to the gameplay in MGSV, is the enemies only have realistic eyesight when you reach the end game and they're all S rank. Thankfully now on PC it's very easy to mod so enemies can see you running 500m away.
Can't believe AI hasn't improved that much over years.
@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer it definitely wasn’t perfect but I just mean it’s much better than most AI we get in stealth games these days.
@torchlight1785 I really liked how they'd adapt to your tactics. Like if you always went for head shots they'd wear these heavy duty helmets, if you always went at night they'd start giving everyone NVGs etc.
The AI in MGS2 was insane though. They had a military advisor come in and they'd rehearse clearing rooms as a team.
i loved MGS 5 even tho i hated its subversion of the story-telling MGS model. it reminds me of why i loved Watch Dogs so much. i know most ppl hate it but my god it was fun to me just screwing around in a giant sandbox
When Assassin's Creed was 1st announced years ago now, i thought "holy shit, is this a Hitman style game set in the crusade era?" i was blown away by the disappointment
Ac 1 was great . The problem is you wanted medieval hitman , now it's........
Ngl, medieval hitman sounds awesome. @@walmart7626
Really?? I was young but I was blown away by AC1, the first reveal of the animus, the historical setting. If it was a standalone game without these cash grab sequels then it was great. Having a free running button was interesting and new.
@@walmart7626 if you like repeating the same 3 missions every time, you are easily entertained.
@@MBMephisto I could argue the same thing about hitman.
What's Ubisoft needs to do is to take a significant step back and begin with the basics, crafting something truly innovative and overhauling the game. The Ezio storyline stood out as the pinnacle of excellence and should serve as inspiration for their endeavor.
I still get sad when I think of the Ezio storyline. How far gone we are from the days of good writing (as good as the format of games allows for, that is)
I laughed when they announced this game. "We're going back to the basics" they said "oh and also you're playing as Loki from Norse Mythology" 🤣🤣😂
7:35 i get making fun of the game but no need to mock a religion and a language
I'm playing it at the moment and I think it's pretty good. Those x-ray things etc you don't have to use so I don't.
It's not a good game design if PLAYERS should handicap themselves to make game more interesting ;-)
AC1 hava much smarter implemented X-ray vision: it's weak and works ONLY if you stay in place and have 100% health.
@@igorthelight how is it smarter?
@@echeneis2256 Simple:
* It only works when player is stationary and have 100% health
* It's much weaker (less radius and what it shows)
That way it feels much more like a "sixth sense" instead of a wallhack ;-)
@@igorthelight how is it smarter? Like why is that "smarter" then the way it is in Mirage? Why would standing still give you a "sixth sense", besides isn't the wall hack tied to the eagle any way?
@@echeneis2256 Because you can't use it while in combat. And it's not that strong. In my opinion, it makes it less of a wallhack. If you like Mirage's version - good for you!
Agree with your opinion of the game.
A bit disrespectful making fun of the arabic at the end there. They are very meaningful phrases in Islam and is in line with what would have been said in that time period.
Oh the Darth Vadar gag has made my Friday. GG Mack GG...
Ahh yeah...realistic game...teleporting and looking through walls. With no explanation how those "heroes" do it.
Ahh yeah Assassins Creed 1...realistic game...effortlessly taking on a dozen guards at once before spiderman climbing up vertical walls. With no explanation how those "heroes" do it. I'll never understand the gamer definition of realism. What is that makes one magic power realistic while another isn't? You know you can just say the mechanic is bad, right? You don't have to pretend you care about realism. It's just like starfield. Being able to sprint while carrying 300KG of cheese? realistic, grounded gameplay. Being able to sprint while carrying an unlimited amount of cheese? unrealistic trash. Gamer arguments get dumber every week.
@@spartanbeef9491bruh 100%. These people are whining about “realism” in AC games when they were never realistic from the start. People have a complaint about literally everything these days lol.
@@spartanbeef9491 While I do agree gamers are stupid with their "mUh rEaLiSm" in games, AC1 didn't let you spiderman climb up vertical walls. Did you even play it? The climbing system is coded to snap onto handholds, if you think someone with the athleticism and experience can't climb the walls in that game you've clearly never seen the stuff freerunners do in the real world.
@@spikem5950 I was being slightly hyperbolic, but yeah I did finish a playthrough the other month(mirage got me in a nostalgic mood) and no the parkour does not resemble what real life freerunners do. It's closer to the edited montages you see on youtube - only the best moments and most perfect jumps, the brief moments where you go all out, but Altair can keep that up for ever without ever getting tired, needing to scout a route or test a path. It's maybe not superpower level but it's certainly not realistic.
@@spartanbeef9491 No it isn't realistic, but it's fine if you have any suspension of disbelief. I don't play a game of a man going into a machine that can simulate memories of his ancestors off of his brain for "realism", that's stupid. Sure there's a point where it shatters immersion, but the game's parkhour system isn't, not for what's been established as a fantastical order of super-assassins.
I know it's exactly the same as the last 4 AC games and I agree with every point that mac makes, but I still like these games. I dunno why, I get the AI is dumb as bricks, it has x-ray vision, combat is press 2 buttons, and the story is about as engaging as a hernia.
I like the collectathon and the boring combat and the whistle in the obvious bush - it's formulaic and I guess it strokes my monkey brain in the right way. I can get about 70-100 hrs out of these games and for me that justifies the price. The world set pieces are the highlight for me, I think the environment designers are doing a really great job on a very subpar game.
so you're the one who keeps funding this abysmal state of gaming
Here’s a not so quick story for any other disenchanted assassins creed fans to read if you feel like commiserating with me about the disappointment of Mirage-
I grew up with Ac2 and brotherhood. I have the greatest memories of Christmas morning during my early high school days, my brother and I in the basement playing AC2 watching ezios story unfold running around renaissance Italy. It literally felt like the most important job in the world to take revenge and help out Leonardo DaVinci. Beautiful game. Fast fwd 10+ years later my brother and I both work full time, but last Christmas break he said let’s play the new assassins creed. It apparently is going back to its roots of stealth and story. Turns out the game was actually coming out the following Christmas year, not late 2022 like we thought, which was a disappointing surprise but we said to each other well we now can look forward to this for next year. I have not kept up with the assassins creed games. I stopped playing assassins creed after ac3 because I just couldn’t stand that game, it’s main character, and lackluster parkour environments. I know that people say black flag is amazing, but I didn’t pick back up with assassins creed until Valhalla because I basically stopped gaming until late Covid era due to the chronic boredom of staying indoors. I didn’t like Valhalla. I thought the UI was weird, I thought the combat was off, and the way you moved around in the world felt awkward. It just felt like something was off. All this to say, for an entire year my brother and I have been genuinely looking forward to this game. The trailers had me fooled. The graphics looked improved, the hype of a return to form and a new focus on stealth all peaked my interest highly. I popped it in today, and within literal SECONDS of the opening mission I was like oh shit this is literally just like Valhalla. No graphical improvements, dumbass NPCs and enemies, and a stupid forced predictable story. I’m sorry but I’m just done. Ill just have to wait until the play stations Spider-Man to actually enjoy a story game, thank god that comes out in a few weeks. I’ll always cherish the memories of playing AC2 and brotherhood though, nothing can take that away.
i swear some older games actually had guards take note of others going missing if you were taking too long or distractions not working if you used them too many times and instead putting them into a suspicious phase where they either grouped up or changed their patterns and detection times and those states didnt go away after that so you had to be extra careful when sneaking around, am i losing my mind here does anyone else remember games having those features
I wonder if they're as critical of Islam in this as they have been of Christianity.
I think we all know the answer to that
You can bet your next paycheck they won’t make a peep.
Apparently, if Muslims are annoyed by their religion being mocked, then it's "just words" being said. Why then care if Christianity is mocked? If you do care, then defend your religion; if you don't, stop complaining.
@@abc-lx5sr Coz Muslims usually are a lot more vocal and physical about their religion being mocked, also it is Christianity is considered an easy target for modern society to go after
@@abc-lx5sr Yeah that's horseshit, Christians didn't shoot up a cartoonists' office, or spend decades hunting Salman Rushdie.
I will never buy another Arse Creed. I'm done with these Ubigarbage.
Glad u see how we speak is so funny to you mate.. good for you.
As an arab I have no idea why would you shack hand with someone and say alhumidlleah, because it means thank god not praise the god.
Thank you mack for the review.
We all know that Syndicate was Mack’s favorite AC game; this should be in his top 10 immersive games of all time, right next to “Cult of the Wind.”
🍻 lol
Bless him, he isn't the brightest chap on the block. He won't appreciate these types of games anyway. You might want to remove that clip at the end of you being racist and disrespecting to Islam too. You can't be that thick surely
