      @@Dhruv-qw7jf What's sad is that this shit that's happening with Intel isn't even that bad compared to many reliability issues and design flaws, as well as the corporate responses to them, which Apple (and many other companies) have done. While Intel probably won't be as proactive as they should be about actually informing customers and making sure that they test to see if their CPUs have degraded, Intel is actually acknowledging the problem now, is extending warranties (and hopefully the problem isn't any worse than what they've acknowledged, but that's definitely still a concern).
      Many companies seem to somehow get away with just making BS arguments and pretending that design flaws or reliability flaws don't exist in their products. It's harder for Intel to get away with stuff like that because their chips are used in systems which are often highly modular, highly repairable, and people typically expect those systems to be able to actually work properly and reliably for 5 years or more, and obviously many Intel systems (and X86 systems in general) are used by very advanced users and you can't get away with that kind of BS when a large chunk of your customers are very knowledgeable and have much higher expectations and standards regarding reliability and repairability.

      @@kennethpereyda5707 It can be a great deal if you were planning to buy the game anyway. It actually seems strange to me because a LOT of game sales for new games often end up coming from these promotions. It seems weird to be able to get a 60 dollar-ish game included for free in hardware which you might have bought for the same price anyway. The game companies are only getting a few dollars for each one of these promo deals which get redeemed.
      I helped a guy build a PC a few years ago and I knew that he was a big Borderlands fan, so I made sure to point out to him that he could get Borderlands 3 for free with a Ryzen 3600X. Basically the only reason to buy the 3600X at the time was if you wanted to get the free game which came with it, because the 3600 was maybe 20 or 30 bucks cheaper, but didn't come with any games. But, it was a great deal for anybody who was already planning to get the game anyway. 22:20 it shouldn't be expensive actually, memory chips are fairly cheap. It's just product segmentation and not giving people enough VRAM so that their GPU won't run out of it in apps in like 5 years is something they do just to ensure planned obsolescence. Memory chips are so cheap that there's no reason for any GPU above $300 to have anything less than 16GB of VRAM since it will surely become the norm in just a few years from now, considering current gen consoles already have 16GB VRAM.

    • @andersjjensen
      @andersjjensen 2 месяца назад +1

      Memory controllers take up a significant portion of the GPU die, which is made on the most expensive node available that has yields good enough to make such large dies possible. That's why they don't like giving you any more VRAM than absolutely necessary.

      @herroberbesserwisser7331 2 месяца назад

      current gen consoles do not have 16 gb of vram, they have shared ram, meaning the system itself uses some of it etc. a normal PC also has 16 gb of system ram and like 8gb of vram. but you don't count the system ram to your total vram amount.

    • @syncmonism
      @syncmonism 2 месяца назад

      If I understand correctly, Arrow Lake is going to be on a significantly more advanced manufacturing process, so it kind-of needs to be a lot better than the 13th and 14th gen CPUs, because it's going to be quite expensive for Intel to make, and it may take a while for them to ramp up production, so Arrow Lake CPUs may come with a hefty price premium to go with a hefty performance increase.

    12:28 your caution is almost unwarranted. Most people are logged in with an Admin account on their personal systems anyway. The only thing that will really be different is you might get a UAC alert you would have to click if logged into your normal user admin account. But both accounts are admin and can essentially do the same things.

    The "most positive" review of the 9000 series that I've seen, is that it's great at certain specific industry tasks, and that it kinda represents a very robust backbone upgrade upon which to build a very strong cpu for other tasks like gaming and others, in the future. But that for over-the-counter sales, AMD probably should have flushed out that potential a little more before releasing. (the bread is still a little too doughy)
    My own observation, is that finfet 4nm does NOT offer 20% (processing ~or~ power) savings over finfet 5nm. In fact the smaller node seems to offer almost nothing to the architecture. So... depending on whether it's really a 20% smaller node (there's some marketing spin in node naming these days), it's possible that cpu cores have reached a possible diminishing returns cliff re: node size. Or put another way - a somewhat more conductive semi-conductor material may be needed to explore anything approaching linear benefits to node shrink at sub-5nm.

    10:00 This made me loose all faith in Hardware Unboxed's competence. This is the oldest well-known performance changer, its name is enviroment variables. You can get dramatically different performance on cpu-bound tests by changing stuff like account user-name, contents of path variable etc. The reason is that these things are used in system calls made by an app, so you end up changing the memory alignment and other stuff. This topic is long but TLDR admin will not give you better performance, it will give you a random performance boost/penality per app.

      It's just one game, but apparently Assetto Corsa runs 18% faster on Zen 5 than with Zen 4, and with good improvements to frame-time consistency as well. It is a good indicator that there is at least some hope that with further improvements to Windows, compilers, game engines, etc.. the 9000 series might actually offer significant performance improvements in a lot of newer and more demanding games (and/or other applications) over the next few years. Zen 5 also seems to overclock surprisingly well, at least compared to Zen 2, 3, and 4.
      This is a new architecture, with some significant new features and changes compared to Zen 4, and sometimes it can take a long time before those new features are taken advantage of by most software. Chip designers have to sometimes introduce new architectural features for the benefit of long-term performance gains, at the expense of not being able to offers as many improvements out of the game when the hardware first becomes available, but it's hard to know to what extent this will be true with Zen 5. Sometimes you have to build the new architectural features before you can expect software companies to start working on how to figure out to best use those features. It took forever for software to leverage multiple cores well, for example.

    Some games are cache sensitive, some are memory bandwidth sensitive, some are sensitive to memory timings, some really only benefit from clock cycles/IPC... Now if you look at the difference between the 9700 and the 7700 the 9700 has slightly more L2 cache and in cache sensitive games that helps. Judging by the LARGE jump in performance for the X3D chips the only conclusion is that MOST GAMES benefit from more cache much more than anything else. We see exactly the same thing with the GPU's, anytime a GPU has to go out to system memory its performance tanks. Ideally games would never need to access anything outside of Cache, and GPU would never need to go to system memory.

    • @syncmonism

      That's not even close to being a practical design, at least not for any kind of normal consumer graphics card! XD
      It's not just a matter of making the caches bigger, it's about the designers finding ways to make larger cache sizes feasible, and trying to lower the manufacturing costs. Chiplet designs and stackable cache designs are showing a lot of promise, but the idea of a graphics card which only uses cache instead of vram seems pretty absurd, like science fiction!
