Your videos have been giving me a lot of encouragement. I still struggle a lot with drinking but I'm getting better at handling my intense cravings. Thank you.
I've had those types of situations where a still small voice - intuition - call it what you will. We are exactly where we are supposed to be at this moment, and we sometimes don't understand at the moment, but sometimes, even years later, we may understand.
This is such a great video, thank you! Congrats to your daughter for going after what she wanted and getting that job - thats great news! Everytime I have a problem since being sober I ask myself "What am I supposed to learn from this?" as opposed to asking myself "why is this happening to me?" Looking at things from that perspective completely changed me for the better. I believe that people come into our lives for a reason, and things happen to us for a reason. My mom was talking to someone about me a couple days ago and she said that she prayed to God everyday that something drastic would happen just so I would stop drinking. I had become someone that she didn't even know, and she was watching me self destruct. Of course, she didn't want me to get sick - but if I hadn't of gotten sick I would most likely be still be drinking and hurting my loved ones. Everything happens for a reason! Your such an inspiration to me, thanks for all you do!

But.... everything does happen for a reason and often we find that out later on down the road. Just like you, I probably would have never stopped if it wasn't for me getting sick. I broke my 28-day sober streak today. Met up a friend to go golf. Those 4 beers weren't worth it to break the streak. The buzz did nothing for me. I'm not mad but I'm not happy about it. Hoping this is a message to anyone who reads this. One more day to stay sober. Edit: It's funny that you mentioned the right/left turn example. After me and my friend left from playing golf, my mind was thinking of going to the bar and getting completely sh*t faced .... but i decided to go home... I guess I lost today but didn't lose big. I went home. Like you said, "NOT TONIGHT"

Congratulations to your daughter on getting the hospital job! In life when one door closes, another one opens, and walking through it can change the course of your life! I see how the message in this video relates to sobriety. I never thought I'd end up with an alcohol related illness like pancreatitis, but here I am. It's definitely not something I ever wanted to deal with. However, 2 things: 1.) I'm still alive and my situation could be much worse, and 2.) Getting sick was what finally got me to realize the harm I was doing to myself with alcohol and that I need to get sober for good! It could be me right now talking about the struggles of liver cirrhosis, or I could be dead, in prison, or locked away in a psych ward somewhere, but that's not the case! For me, the pancreatitis scare was my bottom, my wake-up call, and I'm grateful for that because it gave me the gift of sobriety! Things in my life are far from perfect, and my sobriety journey hasn't been easy, but there is no growth without some degree of struggle, and there are no worthwhile benefits without sacrifice! I'm so proud of you for continuing to fight on a daily basis, knowing the obstacles that lie ahead of you with this nasty disease! It helps that you have such a loving and supportive family, which I think brings out a bulletproof resolve in you to stay alive! You've beaten the odds, and you're gonna continue to do so for a long time, I just know it! Thanks for today's message and for the awesome live yesterday! Take care and God bless as always! 🙏❤❤❤

I remember one time when I was 20 I had an empty 6 pack of beer in my passenger seat of my little ford focus I drank the night before just chilling in the driveway. Next day I got on the highway and something was telling me to throw it out. I did. Half mile later cop passed me pulled into a driveway turned around and pulled me over. Idk what I would have got over that surely something. That’s just 1 of many times my gut has saved me
I keep having experiences where I decide to stick out a situation and do the right thing (even when I really don’t want to!) and things just work out for the best. As a Buddhist I call it karma, but every belief system has its own terminology for the same phenomenon.

I feel for your daughter… I worked 10 years in fast food before I could go to college. I cried sometimes on the drive to work, because the job was actually stressful… it also reminded me of how many of my coworkers had issues with drugs or alcohol… it’s not a good job to be in if you’re struggling with those things. LD, daughter was crushed in car accident right in front of or house, month later, my honey suffered a heart attack--stress, yes, booze, no, after that, made me a FORMER drinker!! Stay ahead of the curve man!!!
I think there is a better word to use than sober. That word is tossed around and around. Sober is a temporary goal. And it’s shallow if you think about it. I think some better words are restored or transformed. Those are more lasting words. More meaningful. Not sure why that just hit me, but I think it holds some truth.

I've had that happen before. I almost didn't put up that video of me having to spend time in that "hospital." But, I thought it would be an honest deterrent. People in retail are stupid in that way of taking advantage of people who have limited availability and trying to force them to work with they can't. That could have been an ugly HR issue. Her manager wasn't too smart about the way it was handled. That was solid advice you gave and look how it turned out. I'm happy she got the job. Good analogy to work your message in, L.D. BTW, that was some cool juvenile Brown Thrasher footage. At least I think it was a young'un.

I had something similar happen to me when I got my first job at chick fil a. They'd give me double the amount of hours that I said I wanted to work during the week and also they tried to get me to do stuff that I didn't apply for. That job did not last long at all for me

I think there is a better word to use than sober. That word is tossed around and around. Sober is a temporary goal. And it’s shallow if you think about it. I think some better words are restored or transformed. Those are more lasting words. More meaningful. Not sure why that just hit me, but I think it holds some truth.
I've often thought that. Sober sounds so unappealing, whereas for me it's glorious and it's breaking free.🎉

I've had that happen before. I almost didn't put up that video of me having to spend time in that "hospital." But, I thought it would be an honest deterrent. People in retail are stupid in that way of taking advantage of people who have limited availability and trying to force them to work with they can't. That could have been an ugly HR issue. Her manager wasn't too smart about the way it was handled. That was solid advice you gave and look how it turned out. I'm happy she got the job. Good analogy to work your message in, L.D. BTW, that was some cool juvenile Brown Thrasher footage. At least I think it was a young'un.

I had something similar happen to me when I got my first job at chick fil a. They'd give me double the amount of hours that I said I wanted to work during the week and also they tried to get me to do stuff that I didn't apply for. That job did not last long at all for me
