I love this kid's style of play. He understands straight pool; keep cue ball movement to a minimum, don't use 1 rail if you don't need to, don't go 2 rails unless necessary, think three balls ahead, etc. Reminds me of the old style of play I remember as a kid in the 60s, where there's a timeless rhythm to it and no need for delay and deep thought because you ALREADY KNOW what shots are coming next. Some say he's a 9 ball guy? If so, he knows the difference between the games. True, a lot of these 9 ball guys can pull off some very impressive shots where they move the cue ball a long way and off multiple rails and still get good shape. But for old timers like me, I'll go for this style any day over that. I expect great things from this guy. He may well be the Hank Aaron to Mosconi's Babe Ruth.
Rhythm is the key. Balls aren't easier to pott when you think for every ball 5 minutes. This distroyes the flow. Love this very old school of more than parallel break angle. A little bit harder to pott but more force is on the rack while less power on the break ball is needed. Very nice!
@@Wowawiwa Well, I'd love to be this bad at the game. (If he doesn't know what he's doing, whoever's shooting these balls sure does.) And even Mosconi couldn't have done what he did without a few lucky rolls here and there.
@@Wowawiwa Gotcha. Don't know much about him other than what I see here, but if this isn't his best game, I'd hate to play him in whatever is. (Actually I would, just to be able to say I faced and was beaten by one of the best.)
Love the video. But sure will there was a score posted. If not in the original video, maybe just create a score panel somewhere along the bottom of the frame. Thank you for uploading.
Hes a modern day fast eddie felson in real life. 25.00 into the video is key in my book. Just missed scratching. Then 26.00 in he manufactures a break ball word! One pocket and straight pool are the daddy games of pool. This guy Filler is going to be the next household name in pool.
Kid is amazing. I already predicted he was gonna be one of the best like 4 years ago, and yeah it happened. Him and Fedor Gorst will be in the final playing each other one day.
derTick not comparing at all. Fedor gorst is a great player and still young too and all i mean is they will meet each other in one of the biggest tournament later on
Same here Daniel, since the 1st game I watched him play I said he would be a great, then his Mosconi performance just confirmed it to me...........since then, Euro Champ 10 ball winner, 9 ball World Champ and the U.S Open and the world at his feet, great to watch and totally fearless
285 in about an hour. I saw Tom Jennings do that on a triple shimmed gold crown. But nowhere near that fast. Filler is an absolute beast. He does not use old school patterns for the most part. He simply shoots the shots and makes them .
random thought.. maybe your pool rating shouldn't be fargo , APA, etc. It should be some number system for how many balls your average run is in straight pool.
Whenever i play straight pool i always have this nice sense of calm when playing can just keep potting for hours and before you know it im on like an 80 ball streak!
This is like the 4-minute mile. Its only a matter of time before an official world record run over 500 balls is set on a 9-foot table. I think John Schmidt is a favorite to do it, but Joshua Filler might as well. Exciting times!
Not exactly textbook stuff, but he is an amazing potting machine ......... And you also have to understand that he actually got quite lucky 3-4 times before he got to the first 100. Some very nasty rookie mistakes with the tempo and the cueball position (that in most cases would have closed him out) but still had the fortune of good rolls from some of the object balls he came too close on ........ As I said, a very very good potter and so nice to see this run from a superstar of the game .......... In tournament play with other straight pool sharks, he would have to be much more careful with the cueball (and still maintain that golden arm/eye coordination 🙂) ......... personally, I dont mind shooting 100 perfectly controlled balls and use 50% more time .......... I guess its all a matter of playing style.
he's a "rookie" who plays 14.1 every day until he runs 200; it's his favorite game. i've been playing straight pool since 1963 when the only time we played rotation was to gamble. this is not the first run of his i've seen; unconventional, yes -- but nothing he does isn't experience-based. and he's not just a potter, i want his cueball.
No matter what he plays, he is not scared for any pot he takes.. That's why is so good, fearless pool player
Straight pool is the king of games....Master this and you master the rest.......

How about 714 Shaw
285 is still immense!!!
Of course it is. In fact it's a great run. My best is 103, but I did break 100.

hoping to see Fedor Gorst's run someday in the future soon.. ^^
unfortunatly he is not as good as filler
Very good . . . but it should be remembered that a crowd, trophy, money, and another good player changes everything.

526 Willie Mosconi

John Schmidt just broke Willie Mosconis previous record by over 100 balls. New record is 626.
And now it is 714 by Jason Shaw
He made it looked like what he did was easy 😅
Just a casual 285 ball run in an hour...
how the fuck do you shoot 285 balls in 70 minutes :D thats the crazy part imo
