Peter could you do us a favor, stick your 70 - 200 on... put the ceiling fan on hi speed set the 5R to e-shutter and camera shutter speed to 1/2000 @ f2.8 and see if the fan blades are distorted... :) thanks

I'm anxious to get my R5. I'm quite curious about the latency of the EVF. Trying to follow sports action with an EOS R gave me eye strain/nausea. I'm a right-eyed shooter and keep my left eye open, so the difference in timing between my right and left eyes was problematic. The 120 fps refresh rate for the EVF in the R5 will hopefully mitigate that issue.
If you shoot 8K raw video just before the action shot, and stop the video after the shot. Use a video editor to extract 35.4 Megapixel images, all shot at 30 fps. This keeps the R5 from overheating, and gives you a 50% faster frame rate than the 1DXmkIII, at a 77% higher resolution. When you add in the "R" glass, and the IBIS, the R5 could be a very good sport and wildlife camera.

Hi Peter, thank you for your first impressions. Could you please share some details about the communication menu/options of the R5? Is it possible, to work with IP addresses like in a 1D X, or is therefor a WFT-R10 battery grip necessary? Most of the R5 reviewers talk about video 8k, overheating issues, animal AF and not about details like image transmission, which is important for news and sports photographers. I guess, most of the RUclipsrs have no idea about these options. I hope you with all your field experience and knowledge about photojournalism could tell something about this topic. Thank you in advance.

Update on using the r6 at high iso vs the r5. And isn’t the canon r6 similar to the 1dxiii as it has same sensor and processor as the 1dxiii ? Why not use the r6 for sports especially as a first sports mirrorless from canon in terms of FPS and AF that kills the old af1 of every 1dxii and before it ? As most of us don’t have 6 grand to buy a 1dxiii when the similar 4grand price savings will give us a killer let’s say baby mirrorless 1dxiii even with a grip lol
I've got the R6 and absolutely LOVE it. My son's soccer league has started back up and the AF tracking is PHENOMENAL!!!

I am happy for Canon mirrorless users, your body has arrived...that being said, I like my 1DX3 more...way more!
ObSiDiAn17 - while I agree in theory, I have to suggest, the only reason I'm not yet a mirrorless user yet is because my body as not yet arrived - the EOS 1R (or R1)...and a high quality EVF. WHEN BOTH are realized, I'll make the switch.
@@mikewinburn Whats wrong with the EVF from the R5 ? And what do you expect from a R1 ? Faster Af ? Dual CFExpress ?

A- all EVFs to date are scarcely better than compact digital cams - looking through is like looking at a laggy computer monitor.
I hear Sony is a dour to release one at 9m dot ... that sounds promising ... the R5 was 6M ... a noticeable improvement over the R (4m dot)... but the R was barely viewable for me.
An R1 will be the flagship- for certain it will outperform the R5 for sports and photojournalist photogs the same way the 1Dseries outperformed the 5D series.
That, sir, is where my money will go.
And still, I will likely await the 2nd generations of the R1, as the 1Dx2 simply destroyed the 1Dx
In the meantime, I’ll get every penny out of my current model
ObSiDiAn17, what has been your experience with the R5 that makes you say you like your 1DX3 way more?
Philip Zivnuska SIZE. The 1DX3 is small in my hands...Catcher’s mitts for hands...the R5 doesn’t “fit”...not to mention that I have never nor will I ever shoot a second of video.
Isn't it a R5? You may loose allot of views labeling it 5R not sure. Great video.
Richard Williams - he starred the video noting this was the new canon R5; about 1:15 or so he mentions he bought the 70-200 for his EOS R, and he owned it for a year. I'm not sure what your comment is referring to. ( someone agreed with you so, got me curious to know.)
@@mikewinburn I didn't see for myself, but perhaps the video was originally titled with 5R, which is probably what the viewer was commenting on. It now shows the correct R5. Just a guess. There is another viewer who pointed out the same.
