2014 GMC Sierra 1500 AC Compressor Change

- After 9 years, the AC compressor on my truck seized. A well known franchise shop quoted me $2700 to change it as well as the expansion valve, disenchant and freon charge. It costed me around $450 in parts and some courage to tackle the job. Not as difficult as it may seems.

I just wanted to thank you. I was able to replace the ac compressor this weekend because of your video.
I’m glad it has helped you, it feels good once you are done and it works. Well done, it takes some commitment to tackle this job, specially if you are like me, lots of first time.
Thank you for this video and parts/tool list. I have the 2014 Silverado with the exact same problem, and your video is a huge help for planning out my repair!
Go for it!, it is an easy job. Good luck and thank you for your comment.
My parts just got in today, I’ll be starting on it first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks for the video!
You got this. Take your time, it is easy.
Great video, i am going to be doing my own before next summer.
Go ahead, easy job if you follow the steps. Thank you for checking the video.
Legit video not too much video fluff and great camera work
Thank you, very much appreciated.
thank you very much for the video!!!! successfully swapped out the expansion valve and compressor. I didn't bother with the condenser as my compressor didn't grenade like yours and still spun freely. I'm on my 3rd condenser anyway LOL worst AC system of any car I've owned. huge aloha from Hawaii saved a ton, I bought all Amazon returned items and they were new, $100 for the compressor OEM!
I'm glad my video helped you to fix your truck and saved you some money. Agree, AC in these trucks an not too good. All the best to you.
@@BUTTEWORKS watched a few videos but yours was the easiest to follow. Mine is a '15 Silverado with 102k mi and it was very similar to yours. If I didn't watch this id probably have broken off the back connector when dropping the compressor. My compressor was wedged in there and had to use a rubber mallet and a breaker bar to bash it loose, you made it look easy with the wiggle 🤙
@@TropicalMint808 It looks easy with the power of editing, I didn't showed the 10 min struggle to get it out hahaha.
great job man! saved alot of money, congrats for such a nice video and instructive.
Thank you Abner, first time doing this job it was a bit challenging but once done, I see it is not such a big deal.
Thanks so much for the great video. I just blew my AC belt last night in my 2014 Silverado and I'm guessing I will need a new compressor. What purpose does the expansion valve and dessicant serve? Or why are you also replacing them, too? Potential leaks? Or did you only take it out in case debris from the failed compressor made it into the valve/lines/ Thanks again!!
I replaced them because if you buy the compressor in OReileys, they give you lifetime warranty on the compressor if you get what they call the service Kit that has the orings, disecant, expansion valve, pag oil etc and cost $54. But is not needed, you can just change the compressor and good to go.
@@BUTTEWORKS sounds good. Appreciate the reply!
First, thank you so much for this video. You helped me change out my compressor. Quick question for you. My 2014 GMC Sierra shows 0.6 kg (or 1.4lb) of refrigerant. By the book, it says that the car requires 22.4ozs of freon or just under 2 cans of freon (if you have 12oz cans). It looks like you were using 12oz cans of freon (I bought the same as you) but you put in 29-30ozs of freon. Curious how you got the information to put in 2.5 cans of Freon. Would love to see how you were thinking about it. thank you again!!!
I don't' recall where I found the amount for my truck but it was a list for all GMC vehicles, all years and models. I used 2.5 cans as recommended and so far it is running great. I'm sure if you use 2 cans it will work as well. I just made a quick search and there are multiple pages with service manual pictures showing 1.6lbs (25-29oz) for GMC Sierra 1500 year 2014. I'm glad you found the video useful.
@@BUTTEWORKS Thank you! I really appreciate that. BTW - also replaced my condenser and that video was magic as well!
excellent video. very detailed and helpful. thank ou very much!
Thank you, I'm glad it helped you.
Awesome video 🥃🥃
Thanks for the visit
Great video, clear and very useful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for checking the video.
Best video!
Glad you liked it
i wish i wouldve watched this video first before i i did this. still and awesome video
Thank you very much for your comment.
Great video question I replaced the compressor and I’m still having a issue with the clutch it only comes on intermittent or if I tap it with a hammer any solutions what that can be it’s a brand new compressor
I would check the connectors cables going to the compressor to make sure they are ok, but if it works when tapping on it, it may be a defective compressor.
@@BUTTEWORKS thank you for the info appreciate it!!
And btw it’s a brand new one is it possible for it to be bad??
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi, can you tell me how many o rings does ac compressor has on 14 gmc Sierra. 5.3
I don't know what you mean with o-rings. I used two rubber-metal washers on the inlet and outlet pipes. One on each.
Muy buen videos. Me ayudo mucho gracias!!!
Ever, me alegro que te ayudase. Saludos.
excellent
And what brand was that expansion valve socket?
Round those off and your in trouble.
The brand is Beta, it is an Italian tools brand.
Super video.
Thank you very much!
When you’re recharging your system is the recirculation on?
I don’t think that matters, I believe the gas system is independent of recirculation. I didn’t have it on and AC running strong two years after
Is that delicate on the top or bottom
I don't know what do you mean.
$2700 ??? For what??
That is what I said. They told me they would clean the entire system of debris which is Bravo-Sierra. You can buy new condenser an hoses an be under $600.
Gmc told me they would charge me 4,600 for this smh crazy
DIY, you will save a lot of money. You can have them charge the system if you don't feel comfortable doing it. At least you can rent the vacuum pump and hoses for free from O'Reilly just to make sure it holds vacuum.
Yeaa they smoking dicck frfr
