I’ve watched A LOT of the boys analysis videos and yours is the first to make the very good point that the show knows where the line is and what actually doesn’t need to be shown. Way too many shows don’t get that they can do rape storylines and shine lights to victims stories without fetishising rape scenes, which is sometimes done whether they intended to or not
Definitely! You really don't need to show anything graphic to effectively contextualise the coercion, power dynamics, and the trauma it leaves. We see how much it plays out across the season and at no point does the actress playing the character or the audience watching the show have to physically experience something that is gratuitous for no good reason. More creatives should learn from that.
That scene with Simon Pegg and Jack Quaid is so heartbreaking to me. To me, it was a failed father admitting his failure to his son. Put into a predicament where they were completely helpless, it was in their nature to just roll over and die, hence the line "You don't have the fight, you never had!" that delivery was telling of Hughie's dad as well. He spoke from introspect and that's powerful. The only difference, Hughie's young, his drive is different because he's still angsty, his dad isn't. His dad is realistic about things. May as well just take the 50,000 dollars and try to forget about it. Hughie doesn't have that outlook. So of course he would try to fight them, of course it was easy to convince Hughie to join the fight with Butcher and The Boys. He's young! lol
The Deeps story is the most interesting for me. He is a very challenging character to root for or to hate. Another character that I really like is Maeve, also complex but still grounded.
I know Jack Quaid is voicing The Riddler in the upcoming animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween but the more I rewatch him on this show the more I can't help but imagine him portraying Edward Nygma in a live-action DC Comics film/show! I'm not sure what it is but just looking at him makes me picture him sporting green-lense glasses and posing eerie and sometimes annoying cryptic dialogue to Batman via a monitor.
Very interesting video and very well made! I searched for a video essay on the boys, saw this video at the top with the number 1.5 and assumed 1.5 million views, started watching it and only after reading some comments on how it is under-appreciated that I saw that it's only got 1.5k. Based on the Quality of the content you deserve at least a million....
😂😂😂 Thank you! I’ve never even cracked 100K views on a video. I’m used to a small view count so it’s funny/nice when new viewers pop in to say I should have more. 😆🤷🏻♀️
I am still behind and only on season 2, episode 2. All of the people in season 1 looked alike to me and that alone made it hard for me to keep up with. It definitely is Dark!

Just the fact that they took out THAT actual comic scene for Starlight says a lot. 👍

It blows my mind how this video is as under rated as it is. Definitely deserves more traction then it does.

I'm a Frenchie and Kimiko stan through and through but that's probably not surprising to anyone since I already made a video just about them. 😍
@@LadyJenevia love them toooo...
