The automatic bones adaptation is the real magic of this video. If I will have the possibility in the future, I would love to "stress test" this feature to see its real strength. Thank you, as always, for the massive informations you share with us!
Thank you, Michael, excellent content as always! I haven't found a way to bring the character with the eyes closed to ZBrush, and that is particularly important to shape the eyelids for a character that has very prominent eyeballs causing very bulgy eyelids when the eyes are closed (this particular character will have the eyes closed most of the times). Any ideas on how to solve this? Thank you again for this informative channel over the years.🙂
It's a little later on in the series, but it'll be the same way I open and close the jaw; for eyes, just go to Edit Facial - Eye Blink - L and R to 100, GoZ it back with the eyes closed ruclips.net/video/Z-zp_bgXuKc/видео.htmlsi=Jub-L_iXRFhj6zi7&t=656
Thanks for these amazing tutorials Michael!! So helpful!! I am sure I heard in one of your videos an explanation on how to re-align the tear line, eye occlusion, and tearducts if you change the eye lid positions in Zbrush but I can't find it now. I know I can do it by manually sculping the points to match but is there quick way to re-align these parts back in CC if you make big changes to the eye lids in Zbrush? Thanks
Thanks for your great tutorial,I have a question how can I fix eyelashes after bringing back my character to character creator from zbrush(my characters eyelashes are in the wrong place now )?
For things like eye occlusion / eye wet you can use the "Fix Eye Element" button in the first tab in the Modify panel (I think it's the attribute tab), but I don't believe that'll fix eyelashes since that's technically part of the body mesh. HOWEVER, you can manually move the eyelash mesh back into place pretty easily using the Mesh tools in Character Creator (grow your vert selection and move, use falloff to do soft modifications), or simply GoZ-ing back to ZBrush and doing it there (mask all eyelash mesh, invert mask, use gizmo / move brushes, etc...). Here's a video that'll walk you through both: ruclips.net/video/dbL1GWcwRD8/видео.html
Awesome workflow tutorial. 🎉 Had A Question : When the Hand mesh was enlarged did it distort or make the edge loops uneven ? And if they did make the edge loops uneven then how would they be rectified ? Many Thanks.🎉
I don't think they did (at least I didn't notice anything), but you can always move the edgeloops in ZBrush and send it back without adjusting joint positions with geo, and bam, you're all set, joint positions stay put, geometry is better, win! Or use the edit mesh functionality natively in CC to move your geo as well
Thanks for replying. I had asked because I am a Blender user and as you mentioned the edge loops have to be moved and smoothed to get them in order. After the introduction of face tools I am seriously considering investing in ZBRUSH. Would you know if there are any upcoming discounts for the festival season. Thanks again. 🎉
@@vivektyagi6848 not sure about this discounts, but at this point in my career ZBrush is an investment in my time, so it pays for itself pretty quickly
Hi Mike. When you send your character from CC4 to Zbrush you can directly start subdividing and sculpting it. But mine has a layer by default ( and textures applied to vertex color apprently ). Should I sculpt on that default layer ? Or create a new one ? Will new layers be taken into account when I send the model back to CC4 ?
I'm not certain this is it, but just in case, this video was created before GoZ plus was rolled out - I personally toggle off GoZ plus functionality when sending my mesh over for this type of workflow: ruclips.net/video/bnHz1U64lco/видео.html If it still insists on sending over a detail layer and a texture map (or some equivalent), I usually bake details down to the base mesh, or delete it entirely, and transfer the texture to polypaint, as seen in this video: ruclips.net/video/5pfS4L32fvY/видео.htmlsi=Pni6ZNn1z9bRj0_g&t=443
@@MichaelPavlovich Ah yes that's it, GoZ Plus seems to have some problems, I checked their forums. I'll keep fiddling with it and see if I can actually integrate it into my pipeline. @@MichaelPavlovich Yeah it's extremely finicky and the cache seems to get corrupted on a regular basis. After a few hours I kinda managed to make it work, but after 2 or 3 exports the body stops being updated in Zbrush. The eyes/eyelashes/etc are updated though. It's really weird. First of all, these videos are amazing and incredibly inspiring!! Second, for some reason the GoZ button in Character Creator 4 just isn't doing anything. It doesn't open the settings window or anything. I've relinked and reinstalled and tried everything. I can use GoZ from Zbrush to CC4, but not the other way around. I have no idea what to do. I'd appreciate any help that I can get.
Strange, you might have to put in a support ticket for this one (?); I'm not on a computer with cc4 on it at the moment so I can't test it, but the only thing I can think of is making sure you have the top node of your character selected before hitting goz (although really selecting almost anything in your scene tab should allow you to goz it over to ZBrush, like props, as seen in the new GoZ Plus functionality: ruclips.net/video/bnHz1U64lco/видео.html
Hi Michael! First of all, thank you for sharing your experience with this and other pipelines. I'm having a serious doubt, it has been taking up a lot of my time observing what I've been doing wrong, but basically there must be some restriction on resending the CC4 to Zbrush via relink, it recognizes, but creates another tool with just 1 subdivision, I end up losing all the subdivision information and that is frustrating. It can only be a limitation in the Trial version. And yes, I've already tried deleting all caches. Would you know if it is indeed a trial limitation? Thanks for your amazing work! Cheers!
If its creating a new tool then its not linked properly; if its deleting subsivisions (?) I've never seen that behavior, and can't recreate it on my end
You don't have to use GoZ, you can export obj's that you can import as morphs in Character Creator, just a few extra minutes per update back and forth. CC has a "GoB" button for Blender now I believe, I'd imagine (?) it works the same as GoZ!
@@MichaelPavlovich Thanks, Michael! I assume Maxon is paying you something here, but any chance you could do a process video using Blender, for dummies like me? It's a bit complex and things are organized differently in Blender.
I’ve run into issues when making changes in ZBrush and sending back to CC. If I make proportional changes, the bones don’t update properly and things get crazy, most often with the fingers. However, I’ve been working in the relaxed A pose and not T pose. I’ll have to try working in T pose now to see if I still get issues. Any idea why the bone morphing doesn’t work properly in the A pose?
Not sure on the underlying tech, but (as of this writing, Reallusion updates stuff all the time) I get hit or miss results on the straight-finger A-pose from CC, very miss on the relaxed A-Pose, but T-Pose hasn't steered me wrong yet for proportional bone changes external from CC
My CC4 for whatever reason can't find the Zbrush path, clicking on GoZ exports everything but it does not import into Zbrush. It acts as if Zbrush isn't installed. I can't seem to find any way to update the path to Zbrush, there is NO documentation or forum suggestions online, any ideas?

sounds like the character is slightly off axis (probably in the x-direction); in other words, not perfectly centered. In ZBrush check Geometry > Position and make sure X Position is at 0 and GoZ the new position back to CC (make sure you move your bones along with it, so A pose or T pose only); and/or in CC, select your top character node, go to Modify > Attributes > Edit Mesh, and do a Mirror Copy on your low res object, then GoZ that back to ZBrush to update it. You can see me doing this at the 43 minute mark here: ruclips.net/video/kw-0wK8XHk8/видео.html
