    He said " an hotel" at the beginning, not pronouncing the "h". Is it not incorrect English?

      +Ivan Gartenhaus I can assure it is VERY correct English, albeit a little old fashioned now. See 'Fowler's Guide to Modern English Usage'.

      +William Hanson I pronounce it this way too but my teachers -- I read English at uni -- keep correcting me. Then again most of them pronounce scone like alone instead of done. :)

      Mr. Hanson: Acc. to one of my favorite books, "Woe is I", it is 'an' before a silent 'h' such as "an hour' or 'an honor'. When the 'h' is pronounced, like in hotel, then 'a' should be used. Do you find this sentence a bit odd sounding? : Yesterday I bought an history book
