  • The President Harry III ASC CB Radio gets the balance between cost and quality just right. This is a great radio for the money and worth looking at in 2022. It’s a solid little workhorse of a radio with muRata ceramic filter and decent components inside. You can get a DIN adapter for the radio but ensure you get an external speaker as the internal speaker is downward firing.
    In the video we look at the stock power output and show you how to adjust the power output up closer to 4W. We show you how to unlock the radio and put it into 120 channel mode and discover the frequencies of the three 40 channel blocks. Everything you could want to know about this radio is covered so make a cup of tea, sit back and enjoy.
    You will have legal obligations in your region with regards to radio transmissions, licensing and power outputs. Expanding a radio may increase its power or frequency range outside of what is legally allowed with or without a license. If you choose to modify your radio then it is done at your own risk. Remember, ignorance is no plea so stay on the right side of the law and double check before proceeding.
    If you would like to buy me a coffee and help support the channel then please follow this link www.buymeacoff... Your support is greatly appreciated, thank you so much.

    Very good review! One question, when you clip the wire and move the jumper does that improve reception or it remains unchanged?
    Greetings from Portugal

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Год назад +1

      Hi Rui, expanding the radio unlocks frequencies and increases power output. It does not specifically improve reception and the President radios are already good receivers. Most of the President radios have noise blankers and other filters to help with cutting out noise. Good quality antenna and coax which is tuned well will also help. Thanks for watching, all the very best.

    I enjoy your channel, very informative! About cutting the white wire; you mention that this only boosts rf power output, while the jumper takes care of the channel expansion. Now do you know if this is valid for all of your President radio’s? I do like the more channels option but I am not interested in more power, so if only the jumper fixes this, I might have a go at my Barry II radio. This radio has NO adjustments on the board, there is a hidden service menu.

      Hi Hans, thanks for watching. I have a Barry II and that radio is next up for review. I am planning to film during the week and to go up on the channel next weekend. I will test the power output pre wire cut, post wire cut, and with jumper set to answer your question. I have a lot of President radios and more coming. Three I haven’t got around to reviewing and two more about to be ordered. Working my way through the range. Stay tuned as the Barry 2 is up next. Will be interesting to see. All the best and thanks for taking the time to comment.

    Regarding Bill 2 CB Radio President, what do you think? Is Harry 3 worth the switch? Is Radioddity CB-500 better than Bill 2?

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  25 дней назад

      Hi @adrianfora, The CB-500 is a fantastic radio for the money and would be my choice over the Bill 2. The CB500 has CTCSS/DCS tones and codes and NRC. The Bill 2 is good if you need someone extremely small but the CB500 is the better radio and nicer to use day to day. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK

      @adrianfora it is expandable to cover CB bands but is a 10 meter radio out of the box. The video covers how to expand which can be done by pushing a few buttons. MJ7NLK

      Hallo Linelis, danke für dein Feedback. Wenn Sie die üblichen Grundelemente wie Koaxialkabel, Anschlüsse, Antenne überprüft haben und den richtigen Modus eingestellt haben (ausschalten, F-Taste gedrückt halten und einschalten, dann wählen Sie die Norm für Ihre Region aus, vorausgesetzt, das ist "d" oder "EU". ) und es funktioniert immer noch nicht, dann muss es von einem CB-Spezialisten überprüft werden. Alles Gute und danke fürs Zuschauen.
      Hi Linelis, Thanks for your feedback. If you have checked the usual basic items like the coax, connectors, antenna and you have the correct mode set (turn off, hold F key and turn on, then select the norm for your region, assuming thats "d" or "EU") and its still not working then it will need to be looked at by a CB specialist. All the best and thanks for watching.

    What do you think about the President Harry III little brother, the President Truman ASC. The Truman might have the same quality like the Harry III. Its a basic little radio, same platform like Harry III which also has Murata-Japan-Filters for better reception, Platine made by Uniden but only the "President-Egg" without up- and down.
    However, It costs only around 70 bucks and has all the important oldscool buttons (Squelch, On/Of with Power, Channel Select) without additional functions which are rarly or not used and only rise the price.
    I dont care about any EMG, Roger Beep, MEM-Channels or different colours. The orange colour on the big display looks brilliant and S/ RF-Meter is also a nice addition in comparsion to to all the latest President Bill, Barry or Teddy in 100€ range and their complicate menues. I have ordered a Truman (half the price of a used Harry III). So Im looking forward to check it out soon. Btw, some of the missing features of the Harry III like "HiCut" you can get via a little external speaker with filter or even a better microfone with up-and down.
    Thanks for your nice video and 73's from Germany, Gordon 13 CT 2929

      Hi Gordon, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. I have a Truman but haven’t got around to reviewing it yet. If you look in the background of the Walker 2 video at the conclusion you can see the Truman box in the background :-). I haven’t even opened the box so can’t update you on it yet. The Walker 2 video took a while to do so I might do the Truman before tackling the Lincoln. All the best and thanks again for your comment. 73’s MJ7NLK

    Here in Canada I don't think we're allowed FM on the CB frequencies I used to have a linear and you could walk around the base of my antenna tower with a fluorescent light and it would eliminate good old days

      Some of the US crowd have some seriously large burners that could cook an egg. The FCC in the USA have just legalised FM for the USA but I don’t know if that also covers Canada as well. Cobra and President pushed hard for its legalisation and were finally successful at the end of 2021. See my channel, it was a news storey on a recent video :-)

      Hi, there is not much head room on this radio. I think it's about 5.7W max when expanded in FM. Have a look at the Walker 2 or Richard as these radios have much higher output which could be used in the event of an emergency situation. Richard is 50W out of the box but is a Ham radio and needs expanding to cover CB frequencies or the Walker 2, which is basically the same radio and needs expanding to cover Ham frequencies. Check your region for what is allowed legally and if it's a Ham radio then a license is required to operate. Hope this helps. Videos of all radios mentioned are on the channel. Thanks for watching.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад +1

      It very much depends on your budget. The Radioddity CB-500 is priced well and has NRC and is a pleasure to use. The Walker 2 is my choice of the radios that don't come with SSB, the layout is perfect and its great to use. The George 2 is my choice for the most fully featured including SSB but its expensive. All the best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK

      what do you think about Ronad? and what would be the right antenna?

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад

      @@adrianfora The Ronald is a Ham Radio and not CB out of the box and would need expanding to cover the CB 11 meter band. I would pick the Richard over the Ronald as the Richard is essentially a Walker 2 but configured for Ham Radio out of the box. When expanded the Richard and Walker 2 are basically the same radio. I have videos on both of them on the channel. The Washington is the new king of the hill in the President Ham radio line up, which is essentially a George 2 but configured for Ham Radio 10 and 12 meter bands out of the box. If you want the best then George 2 / Washington, next would be the Walker 2 / Richard. The Ronald is a good radio but you will need to expand it if your use case is CB. The Ronald is the Ham version of the Teddy 2.
      Antenna is a hard one. I use a Diamond HF10FX which is a Ham 10 meter band antenna and when adjusted to the max length works very well on 11 meters. I have a video on this antenna as well. The old CB saying, "Height is Might" is very true, the bigger the antenna and the higher its positioned the better it will perform. (as long as its tuned well, and you have decent coax).

      @@NLKMediaGroup Thank you very much your information is very useful. Regarding the use in the car, which antenna did you recommend? At the moment I use Hary 3 with the ML-145 antenna from President.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад

      @@adrianfora The MLA-145 is a good antenna, just make sure you test the SWR and adjust the height of the antenna to get it as low as possible. I use a Diamond HF10-FX which is a Ham radio antenna for 10 meters but when extended to its max height works super well on 11 meters. If your just using CB 11 meter frequencies then stick with the MLA-145. You might get better performance out of a longer antenna but that is not always workable on top of a vehicle. All the best MJ7NLK

      Hi Furzkram, yes I have loads of pairs of tweezers but mainly for SMD component soldering under a microscope.
