    That’s pretty good acceleration for that length of train, I was onboard a Class 158 that was delayed last night, and the driver really gave it the berries and we must’ve been doing 40mph once we left the platform!

    • @TrainsbyM
      @TrainsbyM  4 дня назад +3

      @Leo_125. Ah yes, I remember this from our DM 90s as well, which were quite similar to the Class 158s. They were very fast on the first miles an hour, but it did quickly decrease after that however. Is that the same with 158s?

    • @Leo_125.
      @Leo_125. 4 дня назад +3

      @You can feel the acceleration until the gear change, after that it gets less noticeable.

      @@HorizonSpottingGermany-kd6kh Ahw, that's a bad coincidence to have happened! Officially, they're out of service, but in reality they're being phased out at the moment. As soon as there are enough ICNGs, they'll be gone, but you can still capture them on the EuroCity services at the very least. I'm not entirely sure on the domestic IC Directs, but there are still some around! I think you'll be just in time in Spring!

    • @TrainsbyM
      @TrainsbyM  5 дней назад +8

      No, 160! They always have been able to. Just like all the other "regular" intercity stock, except the DDZ which is 140. The problem is that they can't under ATB, which is limited to an absolute maximum of 145 km/h and therefor don't go any faster. These carriages are the exception, since they do parts of the HSL where they are ERTMS controlled and actually do go the full 160! (On a 300 km/h track section, mind you. 😂)

    • @melaniedrogr951
      @melaniedrogr951 10 часов назад

      @@TrainsbyM actually you can do 160 km/h under atb ng ( a new version of atb) which is installed between schiphol and leiden. However, the problem is the overhead lines, going at that speed causes a lot of sparks wearing down the lines. (and this happens faster thanks to the low voltage)
      You have versions that can run up to 1600 with the dutch 1500V without too much problems, and 200 if you like replacing the wires, but then you have to change the overhead wires almost everywhere ...

      The driving van trailer was designed for the loco of the 1700 series and was not converted to work with the Traxx. Therefore these are no longer used as intended.

    • @TrainsbyM
      @TrainsbyM  2 дня назад +1

      The first car is indeed a driving van trailer! And as Ron Voorburg already explained, it used to work with the Serie 1700, and believe it could also work with the 1600 and 1800, though the latter normally wasn't seen in passenger service much. These locos couldn't work the HSL, so the TRAXXes came instead!
      It is in The Netherlands, indeed!
      I think you refer to our ICM. You should see them in real life, because they are absolutely majestic, and perhaps the best electric train this country has ever seen. As a driver for the Dutch Railways I get to drive them, and they are absolutely magnificent! 🥰

    • @goldenten7138
      @goldenten7138 День назад +2

      It has also to do with the complexity of the HSL in the Netherlands. So many train got stranded in the 1600DC > 25000 AC voltage lock , that the technicians decided , after a lot of contemplating, to connect a Traxx loc to both ends of the train. That way one end of the train always has access to electricity in case of a power breakdown ( most of the time because of mistakes by the engineer on the train ).
