Don't be ashamed of community college! I'm a huge enthusiast about going there, even if it wasn't your first choice. A few Lunch Breaks ago, Phil said a quote that really stuck to me and it's helped me a lot with my educational career: "I didn't chase my passion, but I became passionate with what I chased." Sometimes life doesn't go as planned but my advice is to make the best out of it. You never know where it can lead you!
Yep. Community college is cheaper, and doesn't require you to take the SATs.
Here's a great path: Community College followed by State/City College for your "bachelor's degree." Then go on to what you need at a specialized school (probably a Masters' degree or a certificate program) known for the field you believe you want to study.
6:45 Thanks for the shoutout, Phil! Much love from Ascension 😄❤️
Does Phil even remember college? Wasn't it like 20 years ago for him? JUST KIDDING! Love you Phil💖
~10 years is still scary to think about!
Phil has not reached his 40s yet
Tfw you're cramming for finals and a lunch break video comes up about college. Distracted and learning at the same time, yay....
We see you 👀👀👀👀
I had a presentation and I wore my shorts backwards... then this girl called me out and was like you know its backwards right and im like .... girl i know
and then like i had another presentation lik a month later and i wore my shirt backward
and the SAME GIRL is like did u wear ur shirt backwards on purpose
moral of the story: DONT PROCRASTINATE AND FORGET HOW TO WEAR CLOTHES FROM ALL THAT CRAMMING
*Am I weird cause I say "Lunch Breakkk!" With Them...?*
*Edit: Oh my goodness (More) Wong Fu liked and replied to my comment I'm lowkey fangirling.*
Only weird if you think it's weird! (definitely not weird 😉)
Almost every time. No shame, especially if I'm eating.
But also, the... "MOARRRR!" I say that with the video too.
'low-key' uhuh sure thing hunny ;)
I was a commuter by bus so I couldn't join any clubs because meetings are usually at 6 or 7pm and it takes me 1.5 hrs to go home. So my most practical advice to make friends is to live on/around campus lol. You're going to have to make some trade offs.
Im currently in my second year of college at my local community college and I definitely understand the feeling of getting judged by my peers for going to a "lower school". I didn't even list the school I was going to when all my classmates were posting the big universities they were going to on facebook. The thing is, I look back on that and think that was really stupid because going to a lower school shouldn't discourage you of how or where you are getting your education. You will eventually get to where you want in life and its not going to matter how you got there, its the fact that you did get there (and possibly saved more money getting there by going to a smaller/cheaper school). You will still learn the same things and possibly even experience the same things you would at a big university. Like Wong fu said, later on in life, people are not going to care where you went for college.
I'm in the boat as u, you're not alone :D I kinda like cc cause I have time to figure myself out more and I have so many options on where to transfer
please do a part 2! brings me back to college days! Definitely a great 4 years, even if you have some rough times. It really helps you discover yourself especially if you're away from home.
Hey wongfu team, love you guys.
Thanks for having a lunch break on this topic.
Looking forward to watching many more.
Rinrin K I swear. I learnt so much more through this video. 😍
My lunch just ended😭. But I usually watch your videos every Thursday to keep me company during lunch (study) time 😊. LOVE YOU ALL!💖
Shoutout to everyone who asked a question that has an "underscore" in their name. Lol.
Also shoutout to anyone who went to college in San Diego! 😀
UnderscoreBrian Currently going to San Diego State University 🙌🏻

I studied abroad last semester and it was the best thing I had ever done. So to anyone that has the opportunity to study abroad, DO IT!
Now I'm in my final year of college and I have 1 semester left, suffering from all the projects I have and my thesis on top of that, so I need to stop procrastinating and watching RUclips videos 🙃
Can you talk about post-college in a future video? I really liked the adulting short you did! I would like to know your take on moving back in with parents, job searching, keeping connections with friends in college/reuniting with friends from grade school, and what to do when everyone around you is getting engaged/married?
I am still friends with my fellow college-club members...... We continued being roommates after college (rented an apartment) during first jobs near the college, and attended everyone's weddings. We see each other every so often as most have moved around the country and many now have families of their own. It is always great to see everyone again because I am happy for them--and they are happy for me. All of our journeys are unique.
3rd semester here, haha cooking tips would probably be just take whatever you have (vegetables/meat etc.) and just put it into a pan add water and some kinda sauce and pour it over rice... Really simple and if done right mostly delicious haha....
Was also planning to study abroad for 2 semesters and now I'm 100% sure that I'm gonna do that... Thanks guys! Might even be coming to the US haha (west coast of course...)
Do more college advice !!
Wong Fu should be a part of everyone's "College Life!"
it's the finals week , i need to review and do my plates (I'm taking BS Architecture 😂) but I'm here watching this, procrastinating 😂😂😂
This is really helpful and #relatable
here is the BEST advice for college.... Don't Go!!
Come back to this!! I love learning about you guys!!
Next week you guys should talk about weird food combinations that you guys love!!
I like this guy and I sit next to him in my college class. I don’t actively make conversation with him but he talks to me out of what I believe is pure niceness. Yesterday was the last day of class and I was like, I hope my other friend isn’t here today who sits on the opposite side of me so that I don’t have to sit next to him and awkwardly have a conversation even though I desperately want to talk to him. Low and behold she wasn’t there for the first 30 minutes of class by some miracle. When I walked in and didn’t sit next to him he looked kind of confused and I think I just made it more awkward than it needed to be. Anyways I didn’t get to talk to him and he rushed out of class and left 😒 I’m truly pathetic
awwww feel for you. s/o to the ones figuring out social life
As a senior preparing for college ANYTHING about college interests me. This was super fun!!!
please do more of these!!! Me too I wanted to do study abroad but you know what it's better to travel without having to go to school for it!!! So no regrets!
Can I just say Jen's looking more and more beautiful? Honestly, I think it's got a lot to do with the fact that she seems more confident and comfortable in her own skin. Not trying to earn brownie points, but.... yes, I am xD (kidding. mostly)
Awesome to see Taylor wearing the UCSD sweater!! About to finish my first quarter as a transfer here at SD! Wish I was inside Geisel watching this video and posting this comment and taking a short much needed break from my papers. But it's Week 10 and Geisel is super crowded so I went back to my apartment to study.
For the college food, I would buy the huge bag of Costco frozen stir fry vegetables and just make stir fry with whatever meat or protein was cheap or on sale that week. Very easy to make and easy to make variety, healthy and tasty.
1. Jenn's "Freedom!"
I used to go to school a few days before school started to find all my classes so I wouldn't get lost on the first day.
I'm about to finish my first semester abroad in the UK and it has been a series of ups and downs. It has been quite a big cultural shock to me but I think I'm slowly easing into getting used to it.
Alsoooo I'm trying to learn how to take things easy because I tend to pressure myself, making sure I get everything I learn right.. Sigh! hopefully I'll get through this
Props to you for making that jump! Take it all in & have fun! :)
ahh thank you guys for the advice in the video :) and yup, i'll try to balance work + fun hahah
I'm the same way.
I spent my summer in London as well. There were def ups and downs, but overall it was a great experience!
Next year I might spend a semester in the US. What culture shocks are there?
Wong Fu! Can you guys talk about the concept "of the one that got away"????
I was like Jenn when I moved out; it was the hardest on me mentally! Buying household items and doing chores was no big deal, bUT LEARNING TO PAY BILLS AND RENT ON MY OWN. HOLYYYYYY. 😩
And building up your credit...
Here's my advice: split your classes between your major and gen ed (ex. 4 classes = 2 gen ed + 2 major). That way you don't feel so overwhelmed with hard classes as you move up. It made my first year and last semester easy. I was a civil engineering major.
part 2!!
Key College Advice: GO!
Don't let your parents call the teacher or the school. Grow up. Be an adult. Take responsibility for your own life. Hang out, making friends with people who have goals and hopes for their lives. (Actually, act this way no matter how young you are! It's good practice for a successful future.)
Don't move back home afterward. Make lifelong friends during college, and room with one once you graduate.
Take any job that doesn't interfere with interviewing for your dream job.
Hey I'm in my second year of uni right now and I just rediscovered your channels after so many years. You guys are great role models, keep it up
Watching this at 1 AM made me hungry... so I went to get in-n-out lol #collegelife
I was a freshman in high school when I first saw this and now I’m a first year in college! Time flies by so fast
Ideas for healthy cooking “Dino nuggets” 😂😂😂 YES I CONCUR
Please do another college video!!
Wow I just finished my first finals as a college student, this makes my day 😄
CONGRATS!!!! nap time 😴
please do this q&a again!! I'm actually studying abroad next spring and I'm going to be with one of my best friends, but I'm kind of REALLY scared. Do you guys have any tips?
Please do another one of these!
All this could not be more true and helpful since im still going to college
RUclips is such a great resource for healthy recipes! My friends and I would have cook-offs (ironchef style) and host potluck gatherings as fun ways to socialize.
Thanks for the college tips. 3 more sems to go before graduation. WONG FU FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WONGFU KNOWS WHATS UP! ED Decisions come out in 6 days for me ya'll.
Loved this video-hope to see more high school vs. college or advice in general
I had someone falling asleep and snoring during a 3 pm religion class😂 #collegelife
Is that a ninjago water bottle I see? 😆
In college, we had a Game of Thrones class as part of both History and Theology! Future students, don't be afraid to try taking electives from subject areas that aren't part of your major :)
Hey you should talk about community colleges vs university type colleges!
Lucas Goodding I am a community college transfer. I am glad I made the decision to go to community college first.
MORE Q AND A'S PLEASE THIS WAS HILARIOUS AND FUN
(bring Wes too pls)
How about post college life? I'm still figuring out what I want to do! I'm worried about the future and I feel pressured from my family because they all want me to get a government job because of the benefits(as typical for Asian family/parents). But... I want to pursue in teaching. 😔
You've probably heard this cliche statement.. BUT just pursue what you want to do, after all you're the one thats living it! Everyone has a chance to live life once so use your chance to the fullest :)
I totally relate to this! I'm working on my associates in English in my community college and I think my family is still a little iffy about me becoming a teacher too, and a high school one at that...
One way I like to look at it is that I ask myself, am I going to actually want to get up to go to my job every morning? I believe that no matter what career people chose, the money will eventually come. Some maybe faster than others. But your happiness and personal growth is what it comes down to. In the end of it all, they'll learn to understand if you're willing to be open about sharing it with them, I'm sure.(: hope this helps!
Reychel Joy Robles thanks for the reply! I don't know if it's because they are worried that they want me to get a government job or... for them or... to get better payment. 🤷🏻♀️ I do currently have a job but... doesn't pay a lot compare to my sister who has a government job. She's a lawyer working with issues within the workforce. But... at the same time, they are happy at whatever decision I make. *sigh* life is too hard for me right now. PS I want to be an elementary teacher.
Aw, don't compare yourself! I totally get it, don't worry. But maybe you should define your own happiness and stability, instead of going off of the standards of your family. You're working just as hard as your sister, I'm sure. So I bet you're just as, if not more, ambitious towards your goals.(: Applause for elementary teachers, I'm not willing to take those child development classes HAHA I wish you the best in your future endeavors wongfu fam, hope it all works out!
Have you considered being a substitute teacher? I know it's not the same cause students don't really care for much when a sub is here but might be fun to get some experience if there's no way in dodging the Gov. job.
My college admissions decision is coming in 10 hours and I am just watching Wong Fu videos on college life trying to pass the time!
Yes We need more Q and As
East Coast colleges tend to give you a bit more of the small college town Community Vibe experience.... where your college town and your campus is your entire world and nothing seems to exist outside of that. The West Coast Schools never gave me that kind of college town community feeling like the East Coast did and that's why I finished out my last 2 years in upstate New York.
I loved this video! The questions you guys chose were very interesting and I was wondering those same things!!
i just finished my first semester so this is pretty cool to watch lol. I lowkey utilize ideas in Lunch Breaks to make friends and be less awkward lol. I still can't get myself to talk to that one person.. maybe next semester..
I never used to notice the cuts between their speech when they edit the video, till Wes said he speaks slowly so they have to cut the clips a lot, now i notice every single cut even when he isn't there.
Do this again please!!!
Jenn is so beautiful man, I cant
There are going to be multiple things:
1. A rice cooker is the best: I cook most of my food with it: mac&cheese, rice, pasta, porridge, wonton, etc.
2. I live with 4 other people and I am having conflict :(
Great points.
ugh i love lunch break they are so informational but also entertaining this is a really good show i love it
Tacos were my go-to in college. ...and instant noodles. I would do cereal a lot. Bacon and eggs were common for me too.
Nice episode! I cant wait till the xmas episode, i know its coming up!! YAYYY!! it's one of my favorites every year
One of my decisions are coming out next week, and I don't even know what to think! Thanks for all these tips :)
BLESSSS college advice from wong fu heck yeah
as I'll be going to college next year, I'd love to see another video like this! it was so helpful!:)
Yes! Definitely go study abroad if you have the chance! :)
also, take classes you like and plan your courses/modules ahead!!! Like way ahead (maybe even as a freshman), don't end up like me having to overload in my final year...
this is so weird that I'm just finishing college and I'm watching you guys give advice to your high school fans about college.... I feel old...
hey, have you guys thought about maybe taking the 23&me ancestry tests for a future lunch break? jenn, you look so pretty btw ^^
10:13 That old Wong Fu Weekends theme got me real emotional somehow...
This is reassuring especially after stressing about apps
Wong fu always adheres to our needs
Jen is so pretty in this video wow!
YOOO THAT'S ME!! I take the bus (commute) and it's still been hard to get some friends or be apart of clubs. But the semester is over and I'll be driving so let's hope you guys are right about that! lol, thanks for answering my question.
Great convo!
Defenitely related to most of these.
I just got rejected from my dream college but this makes me hopeful
allaroundeverything Stanford? It’s okay...I’m sure you’ll go somewhere great regardless!!!
stay in school as long as you can!!! the outside world is scary!!
I would like to see another one of these :)
Thank you for the advice I needed it struggling with college a lot Wong fu. I wanna be done and Pursue my career as a youtuber. Because i have been in college way too long.
Really love this episode. Very helpful! I just came to US for master. =)
You guys are amazing
What a perfect topic. I’m in my senior year of high school and I’m freaking out about college
"how to stay awake in morning lecture"
There is a very simple answer that nobody EVER considers.
SLEEP. EARLY.
I've done the thing Jenn did where I walked into a class too early but it was worse cuz we have small classes so there was less than 30 people in there just staring at me and it was too late to abort mission and walk back out... I just awkwardly stood at the back of the classroom >
How are you guys with the fire? It's getting closer to us..near Murrieta
I alway wait Thursday . Thursday with wong fu ^^~♡
Can we get a post college lunch break? About to finish college and ughhh 😑
How can you eat so much noodles? It looks like a huge portion
Yay finally eating lunch with them! (Meaning I finally have food while watching this.) 😂 Fan from the Philippines here!
biggest different between freshman and other years is that I never skip class as freshman but after that...
Noelle 09 OMG SO TRUE! I relate so hard 😂 thank goodness attendance isn't mandatory anymore!
It's really funny when your major only has so many people and you guys take all the same classes in the same room, so by the 3rd or 4th year you can tell when a freshman has wandered into the wrong classroom during syllabus week.
When Phil said "overnight oats" I was dying!!
ahaha i luv you guys so much. You are really funny. I will be going to college next year and these are some good advices thanks a lot.
West coast wins but only LA and maybe Bay. Heat makes BPA in Styrofoam and plastic more readily absorbable into your food, which disrupts your endocrine system
Wish I could eat lunch... work is so busy, I'm working right through lunch on 10 hour shifts... Adulting is hard. ;( I'm missing my college days of being poor, but at least still eating, even if just ramen noodles. Lol #thewoesofthesilentdiligentworker
what are some tips for motivation for those classes no one wants to take by we need them in our degree?
Was Chris a theater major? Cuz I'm an interior architecture major at UNLV and I've taken lighting and it was a lot of fun!
