    OMG! Tracy I completely feel you. I had a client who exhibited red flags from her initial appointment. She came to me for a sculpted full set and then a fill 2.5 weeks later. Her nails turned out beautifully and she gushed and gushed. I was *done* with her though, when, she called my personal number on a Sunday night, 4 days after her last fill, to tell me that one of her nails had broken - as she cleaned her attic 😒- and demanding to know when I was going to fix it. Me: Welll… you do know that this is SUNDAY NIGHT and you know I’m closed on Mondays but my 10 am on Tuesday is open! Would you like for me to schedule your repair for then? She hung up on me and I never heard from her again. Squee! 🤗 (I said all of that to say that I most definitely would have fired her!)

      Ugh I'm in a similar situation. I did a set last Thurs for a girl at school thats in a different class (didn't want to work on her in the first place and kind of got forced into it) she broke two nails over the weekend when she slammed her hand onto something at work. Tuesday she came into my class (I wasn't there that day because I had a Dr's appt) but she told all the girls in my class I need to fix them for her, kind of demanding it. Yesterday she came in to tell me the same thing and I told her sorry I've got someone I'm seeing tomorrow so I can't but I can ask one of the other girls if they can. She then asked me what I was doing on the other person and how long it was going to take and asked if I would just bring the stuff so she could do it herself. Lile ma'am if you can do it yourself by all means do it, but go get your own products because you aren't wasting my synergy gel! The hard part is I'm stuck seeing her Tues-Thurs since we're at the same school, definitely makes it awkward.

    OMG I literally had that client yesterday. Shows up late and telling me mid service that there's no time left so she wants to reschedule, while I already put the base coat. Grabbing the file and messing up my manicure, changing colors when she knows she's late. Asking me to just file a super long natural nail to half the lenght not letting me use the clippers. Giving her opinion on my personal life. Telling me how we all nail techs file the wrong way.
    I'm wasted after her appointment and still have the rest of the day left to deal with. Thanks for the tips, the signal I needed to let her go ☺️

    I dumped my nail tech 3 years ago and never looked back. She was late a lot, made me wait a lot, refused to even learn how to do an ombre, blamed her clients for her tardiness and took forever to do an infill because she was constantly on her phone. I went to her for over 4 year's and felt guilty at first for finally getting the guts to stop complaining about her and just stop going!!

    Habibs 6 hour conversation reminds me of the friends episode where their at the beach and Ross and Rachael are up all night talking while his bald gf is there and than she gave him the long front and back written note and Ross didn’t read it all and they argued about how long it was front and back haha and than didn’t bother getting back together. Your story about an ex reminded me of that haha

    Needed this today, I've been a hair stylist/nail tech for 35 years, I've fired a few clients over the years and was 5 seconds away from firing a haircut client yesterday. She complains the whole time from the shampoo to the combing, to the parting of the hair and the drying! She brings her own comb, and has been coming to me for 10 years or more, may have to have that difficult 5 minute conversation.

    As Habib asked, what is a client shows up on time and pays. I wanted to add is it how they are in the chair time? Like their personality and if they bring you more stress and also nip pick your work constantly and when they come back to get a fill or a rebalance or color change and just put your work down and say oh this one nail looked off the whole time or it wasn’t as smooth as I wanted or my length? Would that be a reason? Like if they just stressed you out but we’re good on the other important aspects? Like Tracey also mentioned when you see their name on the books and dread it?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад

      Yes, if you dread their appointment even if they are on time and pay it isn't worth the stress to keep them as a client. You can have a conversation about it with them first if you would like and keep them and see if things change.

    I can get extreme anxiety when trying to have a conversation with anyone that would involve confrontation on any level. I don't have the guts to make a phone call, because I know my emotions are going to make me forget half of what I need to tell them. I did have to fire a problem client because she would try to skirt around salon and mask policies, she wouldn't follow after care for her nails, which led to her skin deteriorating to the point where I spent 40 minutes on prep alone, and would constantly bring up controversial topics or conspiracy theories, and I had advised her that's not likely the best things to talk about while sitting with me in the salon. So I kept the text message brief, hit the main points, thanked her for being my clients, but that we needed to part ways. I told her I wished her the best in her nail journeys going forward, and haven't heard from her since. She was the exact client Tracy talked about, where you saw her on the books at the start of the day and you dreaded it the whole day until they got there.

      I got one of those not to mention she has very unhealthy Nails brittle looking and every time I do her nails she's always breaking her now her nails are way way too long to be having them too long due to the fact that her nail beds are extremely short and unhealthy and she does not understand that every time I do her nails this is going to happen the stress areas always going to crack because of the fact that she has no strength in her nails her nails are brittle her nails are weak so it's just things that we have to learn how to tell our clients about the situations if not you're going to have to drop a mess clients

    The first time I did someone else’s nails I did a gel overlay with super cute Halloween art for my friend and 3 days later she told me they had all come off because she takes “super hot baths” like every night. And then she tried to send me products to use only her that I didn’t even know how to work with? Haven’t done her nails since and I’ve gotten way better 😅

    I have a client I would like to get rid off, her attitude is horrible, she’s rude, talks smack non stop, talks about you as you are working on her to customers sitting nearby, asks for 2 extra coats, “make sure you paint the corners,” she keeps coming back and uses diff names to book her appointment knowing nobody liked her.... we all just had to ignore her remarks and quietly work on her if it’s our unlucky day. My question is, should the honest conversation happen after she pays for the service ?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад

      If you have allowed her to rebook her appointment and she comes in for her scheduled service, you can have the conversation that you will not be rebooking her once you've checked her out. If you have already discussed that you will not be accepting her as a client and she still comes in under a different name, you can explain to her that you will not be providing her service today and she will not be rescheduled.

    I have (HAD) this client who has no showed 2xs and I had told her on various occasions about that policy. And so today she had a pedicure appointment @ 3pm and I texted her at that exact same (I give 10min grace period to all my girls cus stuff happens!) to make sure she was on her way, close by, etc. 27mins had passed and she hadn’t even opened the message. Now I’m stuck on how to professionally let her know that she is banned from booking with me again. How can I tell her this without being rude ????

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  9 месяцев назад

      Since you have already explained your policies to her & she isn’t following them, it’s ok to explain to your client that you may not be the right tech for them. If she isn’t able to stick to her scheduled appointments, she may need to go to a salon that is more flexible or accepts walkin services.

    I have two(friends) clients that have had their nails done for years b4 me. They move in the chair and get lint all in the protein bond or base coat and it drives me crazy 😵😵 I've told both of them that it's a problem. I feel so stressed out when I do their nails!! I tell them if I keep redoing steps it's why it takes longer. I'm a beginner and it takes me about 3-4 hours for full set already & I'm trying to get faster and better but how do I fire friends that let me practice on them b4 I got my license?? I feel so bad just thinking this😩

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад +2

      Friends and family can often times be our most challenging clients! It can be hard to explain that they need to sit straight and keep their hands where you need them so they don't get contaminated and if you have repeatedly asked them to do so and they still won't follow your instructions, you may have to find other people to practice on. Let them know that you appreciate them letting you practice, but in order for you to get the best practice, you need to work on people who will follow your instructions and will help your learning process, not make it more difficult.

    If a client talks bad about other clients of yours or gossips about them (other clients) talking bad about your work with the client your currently working on to try to get more brownie points with you? Or like to talk about their friend because they feel you do theirs better or theirs are always more or whatever, but the client that is gossiping about their friend and your clients but the one who is always just gets plain and subtle nude nails. And you address it that it’s what they want and pay for and if they want them too they can request that service. And if they don’t stop, how would that conversation go or would you be able to fire them if it’s just nonstop after the addressed matter

  • @alisassmannshausen6808
    @alisassmannshausen6808 2 года назад

    I remember you mentioned previous (Tracey), but if they don’t follow your rules as a client but does show up on time but have issues or try to haggle your prices. Would that be a reason also

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад

      If the client is acting in a manner that makes you uncomfortable or causes you excess stress or if you always dread them coming in, these are good signs that it is time to let go of the client.

    Salon I worked in had a beauty client that was so badly behaved that she was fired - and then her rather explosive reaction got her all out banned from the salon by our owner/manager. Disproportionate rage, immaturity and a full on foot stomping tantrum from a woman in her twenties with the most whopping case of undiagnosed narcissism. It was almost funny to watch. Manager was firm and professional but admitted later she got very close to basically yelling “GTFO or cops, your choice”

    What about if you don’t like confrontation do you not recommend ignoring them? Lol

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад

      If you explain in a professional manner, most likely they will not yell at you. However, if they do, simply ask them to leave and escort them out. If you are concerned they will yell, you can always call them prior to their schedule appointment and explain that you will be cancelling their appointments and will not be providing them services any further.
      Unfortunately you can't control what someone posts on the internet, but one bad review won't make or break you. You can always encourage your regular clients to write positive reviews too.
      As a business person, confrontation is something you will have to deal with at some point. It's best to deal with the situation and be uncomfortable for the five minute conversation rather than being unhappy and uncomfortable every time the client comes in.

    How do I explain to my family that emotional burnout is a very real thing? For context, I worked at a daycare for years and met this family who was absolutely the worst (parents, not kids) the mom specifically was very rude and treated people below her like crap. She put me through absolute hell when it came to caring for her kids, she and her husband would team up and make dealing with them miserable. Fast forward to now, I have my nail business and that lady has asked to get her nails done. I absolutely refused and told her I wasn’t taking new clients. I told my sister about this to vent and hopefully have her side with me (because I felt guilty turning her away and needed reassurance) and instead she ridiculed me and told me I needed to get over my feelings and see people as a “walking dollar sign” please help me with this. I am a person who believes my mental and emotional health is worth much more than the 30 bucks I would charge her for her fills every two weeks. Thanks for reading, love this channel forever!

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  2 года назад +3

      First and foremost, you need to do whatever is best for your own mental health. If you don't prioritize that, a career in any customer service field will be challenging.
      This kind of situation can be stressful since turning away a client affects your income, but taking these kind of clients can cause anxiety and exactly as you are saying, burnout. In the long run, if you take these clients that stress you out, that burnout will cause you to be unhappy and potentially want to leave the industry. So explaining to your family that you are taking care of yourself and your long term career is (just like you said) more important than what one client will pay you. Just keep promoting yourself and good clients will fill those spaces that you don't fill with the stressful ones.

    • @Rhiandell
      @Rhiandell 2 года назад +1

      Your mental health is worth more than the money you'd earn from a client like that. If your family can't understand that, then they've probably never been in a situation where they had to compromise between their wellbeing and money. I recently made the decision that I will not go back to my nail teacher to finish my training, because she gives me severe anxiety. Instead I will pay for an upgrade course with a different school so I can get my diploma. It's gonna cost me ~1000$ but I realised I can't put a price tag on my mental health.

    I have several clients like this that when I send out messages to confirm they never respond to confirm or just don't show up at all or show up but 30 minutes late and expect me to service them then I have the one that schedules appointments and never shows up and then comes up with 10,000 excuses I take her in they refuse to pay the deposit and when they show up for me to do their nails they'll tell me I don't know if you got my text message or my message I won't be able to pay you today this type of thing and this is what I depend on this is my income and I've tried firing them and then they start giving me all these SOB stories for me to keep them only for them to keep doing this to me.
