You have a nice collection for sure, that being said, it is no where near complete without El Dorado! I've tried almost all the rum you have present here and some others. El Dorado is in a league of its own. Obviously the 21 is amazing, but so are the 15 and 12. The 12 in particular at under $30 here in NY is an exceptional value. I'm confident in saying the El Dorado 12 has no peer at its price. Anyway, cheers!
Venezuela creates some great rums, but my favorites would be Ron Pampero Anniversario, Santa Teresa 1796 and Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva. Good luck and cheers!
i recommend you try Maggies Farm spiced rum. It's really good imo, and it's unique because it's made from fermented raw sugar rather than from molasses. It's made in Pennsylvania, so im not sure about availability outside of PA.
I am pretty obsessed with rum and it is the only thing I drink and I haven't tried many rums, but out of the 12 or so rums I have tried, the Bacardi 8 is my favorite. All I drink is rum and cokes and Bacardi 8 is amazing for the price. I recommend Bacardi 8 for the price and satisfaction.
Nice collection there. You have to add some of the Aussie rums which were based exclusively on molasses vice cane sugar. Generic Bundaberg rum is an ok mixer but look at their older aged ones...a few of them have won gold medals at the world rum level. Another one from the Brit virgin isles is Pussers Rum which is a great sipping rum.
Hey Hound! Got to buy the Santa Teresa Bicentenario. WOW!! It's a blended rum (again) with the oldest being 80 years old. Very smooth and it has a superb, blueberry finish. The Mocambo is very good too, has a real walnut finish but the best thing about that is the bottle, it's just sublime!
Hey Liquorhound, love your vids. I'm a whisky guy myself, but every now and then I like to branch out. Picked up a bottle of Zaya yesterday, and man, sweet is an understatement! I thought bourbon was sweet, but holy cow! Anyway, I'll still keep to my whisky; however previous to that the only rum I had every tried neat was Bacardi Gold, so needless to say I was impressed. I recognized the bottle on the shelf from your video, so I thought I would pass long my thanks. Keep it up!
I do have Barbancourt 15 and enjoy it. The Barbancourt rums disappeared from our shelves for a few years while they got some of their distillation practices refined, but they're showing up more and more now. Cheers!
Great collection !!! love the Pyrat cask 23 :) I just bought a bottle of Pyrat XO Reserve today, just by looking at the two bottles you have I see the big difference in color it gives off. Maybe down the line Patron will bring back, the true great taste :)
The Zacap xo 25 is also very good. I'm really eager to try the pyrat xo, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I get my stuff from the whiskey exchange (FYI I don't earn anything from that site, I'm not trying to plug it, it just has a great range of rums and wiskey) I'll look for the santa teresa 1796, thanks for the tip!
The Barcadi Reserva Limitada is readily available at the LCBO but at $120/bottle. ED21 is $110/bottle and RZ23 is $79 so the Barcardi will sit around and hopefully get discontinued at the LCBO which will mean a price reduction. Maybe you would consider a Rum review with some top shelf Rums.
wow, congratulation for your collection. I have a collection of 132 bottles since i found you first video. You are a true insparation for me. What do you think about plantation rums, eldorado 15 years rums, and santiago 12 years cheers!
If you haven't had Scarlet Ibis you should get some while it's still available, it is outstanding (and no longer made.) Sea Wynde is also not made any more, and is also very interesting (though I don't love it.) Surprised not to see any Pusser's, which is my favorite alongside the El Dorado 12 and 15.
Hey Hound, I can also recommend Gossling's Old Rum. It was surprisingly good. Angostura 1824, Brugal 1888, Matusalem Gran Reserva and Plantation Gran Anejo all definitely worth a look in too
Santa Teresa was very good but not my favourite. I prefer something a bit sweeter. Ron Zacapa systema solera 23 is also very good. I find Zacapa's can be hit and miss but this is very good. Also tried they Pyrat XO which I'm undecided about as it's such a unique flavour! Elements 8 white rum is truly excellent. Very clean as a sipper and makes a GREAT Cuba Libra Unfortunately I can't get Zaya in the UK at the moment!
I'm a newcomer to collecting, but I've built up a nice bit so far with many coming from your video. Thanks for all of them! So I have a question regarding how long these will last. Do any have time frames of how they would go bad? I heard in the tequila video's that if you keep them long, you may need to replace the cork. Do you have any info about that in a video? Basic upkeep, maintenance, lifespan, etc? How about which, if any do you NOT want to drink cold or from the freezer if you could?
really good rum collection here man.. You should really try the 1919. Also El Dorado they have a few from 5yr all the way to 22 year i think, and some rums from Trinidad like Vat 19, Black Label, White Oak and Single Barrel.
Hey Hound, love your videos, Could you give me your take on the Matusalem Gran Reserva? Ive been sipping on it and would like to compare notes. What would be a better option for around the price or a lil more? Thx.
Have you tried the Ron Matusalem Platino at all for mixing? Just curious what you thought of it. I've made many a classic daiquiri with it. Wonderfully delicious and smooth in the drink. I know you said bacardi superrior was the best mixer on the market, but I'm not that big of a fan of it. I do know that tastes and preferences are different from person to person though :)
Remember a while ago about 10 years back Barcelo from DR used to be very smooth and popular wonder why it dropped from the ratings and Eldorado 12 is it any good this days?
Yeah it and many others that were great back in the day have changed. For example, I’ve heard a couple reports that Eldorado 12 and their 3 year have been “batchy” lately (meaning some good some not so much). I hope it’s just a hiccup and it not something that sticks around. Cheers!
What are your thoughts on Kirk and Sweeney's 23 year old? I'm typically a bourbon drinker, with most of my rum experience taking place in college with capt morgan hence not the best, but recently have had a chance to try the Kirk and Sweeney's 23 year old and was completely surprised with what rum, specifically longer aged rum, could offer!
+Chris Mills - Its really good, if you don't mind sweet rums. I personally like a nice balance of sweetness (non-cloying) and traditional rum flavor. That's why I named Foursquare 2004 Vintage my 2016 "Rum of the year". Another rum you might want to try is Mount Gay 1703. It's great as well. Cheers!
Hi LiqourHound! Thanks for some great videos. What do you think about the Havana Club rums? I agree that Bacardi is a very nice rum for mixing, and i am a huge rum-and-coke fan myself, but i think the Havana club is much better. The 7-year rum is also great without coke. The El Dorado 12 year rum is very nice as well. Cheers!
I have 2 recommendations in the $20 - $25 range. Just bought a bottle of Rhum Barbancourt Reserve 8 yr. Very tasty sipped! Burnt caramel, subtle fruit notes, a little chocolate. 86 proof. On sale for $20 in PA (we only have one state liquor store, so if you are here grab it!). Another option in the $20's is Ron Barcelo Imperial (nice box and bottle), it's a hair smoother but a bit less complex. Check out the reviews online for both. Reply if you know of other good sippers to try of equal price! I think my next bottle, based on LiquorHound's feedback and comments here, is going to be Diplomatico Reserva.
wow amazing collection. Since i watch your video, ive buy 132 bottles. You are a true inspiration for me. What do you think about the eldorado 15, the plantation rum and the diplomatico reserva. cheers
Thank you and that is a great list of rums! The El Dorado 15 (and 20), Plantation XO and the Diplimatico Reserva are all amazing rums and amongst my favorites. Keep up the great collection and congratulations on already breaking the 100 bottle mark! But beware... that's where "the sickness" begins ;) Cheers!
The taste of seduction, chocolate vanilla and honey, "DIPLOMATICO RESERVA EXCLUSIVA" (green bottle) is the best rum I've ever tasted in my life, It's not easy to find it, if you see it, buy it and try it, you will not regret it. Very very good
***** so I went to mount gay last week. You were right all their rums are very good. I came home with the xo and 1703. Both are amazing needless to say. Thank you for all your great reviews you do.
Joe Kleinberg - Glad to hear you had a great distillery visit! They do make some great rums and you selected a couple of fantastic bottles. Thank you for watching and cheers!
i recently got a bottle of Old Monk, and i expected a lot more, not bad but a very unique taste, but hey it was one of the cheaper bottles so maybe the more expensive ones are better...and it was the first Indian rum i ever tasted so thumbs up for that.
I had a bottle of Old Monk Supreme XXX. I didn't really like it either, it was way too vanillary for me I found it quite sickening. Nice bottle design though.
Jake Sandlin - If you don't mind it being sweet, everyone seems to enjoy Ron Zacapa 23. If you want it to feel rich and full without being too sweet or breaking the bank, you could try Mount Gay "Extra Old".Cheers!
Thanks and yes the Cuban Havana Club 3 year is better than Bacardi Superior imo. Just don’t get it confused with the Puerto Rican Havana Club Blanco. Cheers!
Liquour Hound! I have a question for yah. The Ron Zacapa Rum is available in my area, and I would like to know which one is the better neat sipper? 23 or XO? The price points are $39 & $82 respectively.
The best I've ever had. Drank it in key west in a tasting.Had a chance to buy it 5 years ago but hesitated. Bottle sold a couple days later and never saw it again.
No Barcelo Imperial Dominican? At $22 an enjoyable sipper, not far behind El Dorado 12. What are 3 great rums under $50? Want to add another bottle to the bar
There’s a bunch of solid ones in that price range and it’s hard to pick a top 3 since there’s so many styles of rum, but I’ll name a few. If you like less sweet rums try any Foursquare, then Plantation, Mount Gay Extra Old, Flor de Cana 18, and maybe Pampero Aniversario (it has a touch of sweetness). For sweet rums try Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, Ron Zacapa 23, Kirk & Sweeney 18 or 23, Dos Maderas PX 5+5, and Ron Centenario 20 are all tasty. I’m sure I missed some in those lists but that’s a good starting point. Cheers!
@@LiquorHound Have you tried Ron Barcelo Imperial Dominican? IMO, quite enjoyable for $22, and the online reviews seem to concur. Do you know of other sippers that $ range?
Hey, Liquor Hound. I've recently decided to start adding to my liquor collection and someone recommended 'Ron Viejo De Caldas' imported from Colombia. I was brought to believe that it's something of a standard in Colombia and was wondering if you've heard of it or tasted it and what's your take on it and is it worth the investment. Beforehand, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to answer my question if you decide to do so. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
+Caesar Roldan - Sorry but I've never had that rum. If it's a favorite/standard in Columbia, I don't think it'll be too high priced, so I'd suggest buying a bottle or two. Thanks & cheers!
Its from Peru. I have yet to see it anywhere in the US. The online UK sites have it.. its a little pricy from there, but so worth it. See if your local guy can bring it in for you. It's amazing! You will not be disappointed. www.ronmillonario.com/old.html
+Ruben Herrera - I haven't actually had it since way back when it came in a red bag (mid to late 90's). From what I remember, it was nice for what it was, a moderately sweet spiced rum, full of vanilla and spices, that could be mixed or possibly sipped (and the price wasn't bad). Since I haven't tried any of the newer stuff, I can't really speak for its quality now. Cheers!
Well... Bacardi Silver is simply not the best white rum on the market. The only one who says that is probably Bacardi. In rum world, Bacardi Silver is what Jose Cuervo Gold is in the tequila world. To compare, perhaps try some unaged agricoles, Havana Club 3y, or Wray and Nephew overproof. You have some nice bottles there, the Appletons, the Pritchard (which is not available here), Mount Gay, Seale's, St. Theresa, but that's about it. By "rare and hard to get" rum I imagined some limited edition Caroni from Velier, or some independent bottlings of Hampden House or perhaps the Black Tot many "commemorative" releases. It's a nice group of bottles, but mostly supermarket stuff.
Thank you for the comment which brings up a cool point Daniel. Yes, a decade ago (when this was shot) I had just started my channel. At the time I was really only showing these bottles since I was being asked to by the viewers of my very first video - which only showed my collection as a whole on the shelves. In the 10+ years before that, when I was picking up these rums, the category wasn’t what it is today. There were next to zero special/commemorative bottlings and there sure weren’t any cask strength or single barrel releases. But after the “Bourbon Boom” of around 2009-2011, thats when we starting slowly seeing the emergence of bottlings like you mentioned. Of course, as the category grew, so did my collection and I do now own many of those types of rums. I’ve reviewed some of them elsewhere on RUclips (just search “Liquorhound Rum”) and several others on my Patreon channel. Cheers!
@Arundodonax Zaya is overly sweet IMO, more of a liqueur than a rum - try Pusser's if you can find it where you are, it is outstanding and not as sweet. El Dorado 5-12-15 are also ones that would appeal to whisk(e)y drinkers (I am one.) I cut my teeth on Islay Scotches such as Ardbeg and laphroaig, but I like some of the aged rums just as much - and they cost much less.
+a - While it's supposed to be a Cuban style rum, I've found it to be a bit spicier and heavier than the original Cuban rums I've had. Now it's not a bad rum, it's just not as good in my opinion. Cheers!
I really loved seeing your collection. Its truly amazing. Please review more rums for your rum loving fans and viewers. Thanks for all you do.

Your collection is amazing. love Appleton. Grettings from Vienna Austria
Agree. Lately Venezuelan"s & Nicaragua"rums are becoming stronger & stronger. Nice quick review
i recommend you try Maggies Farm spiced rum. It's really good imo, and it's unique because it's made from fermented raw sugar rather than from molasses. It's made in Pennsylvania, so im not sure about availability outside of PA.
lovely collection of rums my friend ----many of my favourites

I was just given a bottle of Westerhall Estate Plantation rum, serial number 21708. Light years ahead of Bacardi, 151, Myers, etc. Like a good scotch.
The Zacap xo 25 is also very good.

Ron Zacapa systema solera 23 is also very good. I find Zacapa's can be hit and miss but this is very good. Also tried they Pyrat XO which I'm undecided about as it's such a unique flavour!

I'm d future sommelier searching for the best Venezuelan rum ever, what should i buy according to your judge? thank you, I subscribed!
The better rums are on the right half of the table, I will definitely throw away most of the rums in the first 4-5 rows...

What are your thoughts on plastic bottles?
Thank you for the great suggestions and tasting notes! Cheers!
love the collection!
Zaya is soooo good! Any recommendations which are similar to Zaya? I've had Zacapa 25 before which is also excellent
Pav Khaira Bumbu is a very similar tasting rum. Sweet like Zaya
Nice collection! Any thoughts on Zafra and Millonario?
Have you tried ron del barrilito rum. I really enjoy it but noone I know has tried it
my favorite rum is the A. H. riise and the cacique 500
Liquorhound, whats you view on Kraken rum?
Sailor Jerry's spiced rum very good taste/price ratio either to sip or mix imo
Man i got such a big hang over with Sailors Jerry dont even wanna see it in a while but its a good sale here in Jersey
Do you have Brugal extra viejo? man that rum is good!
wow amazing collection.
But beware... that's where "the sickness" begins ;)
Cheers!
try the kraken dark spiced rum
one of the best
The taste of seduction, chocolate vanilla and honey, "DIPLOMATICO RESERVA EXCLUSIVA" (green bottle) is the best rum I've ever tasted in my life, It's not easy to find it, if you see it, buy it and try it, you will not regret it. Very very good
Im going to the mount gay rum distillery next week. Do you have any advice for me on rums that I can use when tasting?
Joe Kleinberg - Lucky you! No advice needed, just book a tour and enjoy their great rums. Cheers!
Old monk best of the best
i recently got a bottle of Old Monk, and i expected a lot more, not bad but a very unique taste, but hey it was one of the cheaper bottles so maybe the more expensive ones are better...and it was the first Indian rum i ever tasted so thumbs up for that.
I had a bottle of Old Monk Supreme XXX. I didn't really like it either, it was way too vanillary for me I found it quite sickening. Nice bottle design though.
You should try sailor jerry's if you haven't...one of my favorites!
Have you tried the Kilo Kai rum? For the price I really enjoy it.
Say I'm on a budget and I want to buy one rum just for sipping, which do you suggest? Preferably not too hard to find.
Jake Sandlin - If you don't mind it being sweet, everyone seems to enjoy Ron Zacapa 23. If you want it to feel rich and full without being too sweet or breaking the bank, you could try Mount Gay "Extra Old".Cheers!
***** You should suggest the Ron Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, best sipper for the money IMO.
peter white - Great call! While it's maybe not as mouth coating as Ron Zacapa, it is cheaper and not that far off in quality. Cheers!
Definitely El Dorado 12 year old rum, in my not-at-all-humble opinion! Try it if you can. You won't be disappointed.
Have you tried Havana Club 3 year ?! Many people consider it better white rum than Bacardi Superior. Btw.. nice rum collection!!
Thanks and yes the Cuban Havana Club 3 year is better than Bacardi Superior imo. Just don’t get it confused with the Puerto Rican Havana Club Blanco. Cheers!
@@LiquorHound Yeah! I'm in Canada so I have access to the real Cuban Havana Club.. lucky!
Man!....id climb over you to get to that Guatemalan Zaya!😅
I never get a "collection" of anything. I buy it and drink it!
Liquour Hound! I have a question for yah. The Ron Zacapa Rum is available in my area, and I would like to know which one is the better neat sipper? 23 or XO? The price points are $39 & $82 respectively.
Start with the 23 and see what you think. Most people are satisfied with it. The XO is better, but probably not double the price better. Cheers!

@@LiquorHound Have you tried Ron Barcelo Imperial Dominican? IMO, quite enjoyable for $22, and the online reviews seem to concur. Do you know of other sippers that $ range?

Haiti Babancourt u really need to add that 100% pure cane rum is great
What's ur opinion of Captain Morgan Private Stock?
+Ruben Herrera - I haven't actually had it since way back when it came in a red bag (mid to late 90's). From what I remember, it was nice for what it was, a moderately sweet spiced rum, full of vanilla and spices, that could be mixed or possibly sipped (and the price wasn't bad). Since I haven't tried any of the newer stuff, I can't really speak for its quality now. Cheers!
hey i found a bottle of crown royal cask 16. its 112 dollars, do you think its worth it?
Nice collection, No El Dorado?
I do have the Eldorado 15 & 20 (but I guess I added them after I shot this video). They are fantastic rums!
Cheers!
May have missed it, but do you have Pussers Rum ???
I do but it's not shown in this video. If you watch my "Black Tot Day" video, it's in the "Admiral Lord Nelson" Ship Decanter.
Cheers!
Thank you Mate, and Cheers right back at ya !!!!!
Where is the Old Monk bro??
kuźwa co za zlewki? to na jeża porannego chyba
wow
Cheers!
What about the Babu?
I've never seen brazilian cachaça among your liquors bottles. Do you know it?
+luc137 - I do have a couple (including the Leblon Cachaca Reserva), and enjoy it. Thank you and cheers!
@Arundodonax
Zaya is overly sweet IMO, more of a liqueur than a rum - try Pusser's if you can find it where you are, it is outstanding and not as sweet. El Dorado 5-12-15 are also ones that would appeal to whisk(e)y drinkers (I am one.) I cut my teeth on Islay Scotches such as Ardbeg and laphroaig, but I like some of the aged rums just as much - and they cost much less.
where is the rum zacapa from guatemala is the number 1 in the world
sailor jerrys? kraken?
What's your take on kraken rum?
+DJLimez - I don't recommend it as a sipper, but it's a nice mixer. I have a friend that loves it in a Rum & Coke cocktail. Cheers!
LiquorHound Kraken is a great Dark & Stormy mixer--as are Goslings and Cruzan Black Strap
Old Monk is missing!
What did you think of Ron Matusalem?
+a - While it's supposed to be a Cuban style rum, I've found it to be a bit spicier and heavier than the original Cuban rums I've had. Now it's not a bad rum, it's just not as good in my opinion. Cheers!
Wow nice collection but no Pussers Red Label or Mount Mourant or St James or Smith and Cross
Well that video was shot a while back (and my collection has grown since then), but yes those are all tasty rums you mentioned. Cheers!
Stroh rum makes the best rum and coke and ronrico 151 is better than bacardi, also mount gay eclipse barbado is nice. The daiquiri master.
have tried to prove arehucas? it's a rum from canary islands.
Where is old monk ???
It’s been added (long ago) since that video was shot. Cheers!

Junior A I have since added the El Dorado 15 & 21 but not the EH 25 yet. Cheers!
