I like this review cause this is showing how good a camera below 300 can still be great. I just watched a video where the guy just complained about it.
i hate unboxing reviews. This video review at least showed the footage of the camera in different settings. Damn that image stabilization is horrible, mount it on a tripod while zooming to 50X maybe that will be less shaky.
Thanks for the thorough review, Aaron. For those wanting to do more with this camera, or canon point-and-shoot/bridge cameras in general, check out CHDK. It's a bit of work to read about how to get it on to your camera, but once you do it gives you a lot more manual control over it (e.g., custom iso, aperture, and shutter speed settings, sometimes beyond what the camera is technically capable of, to name just a few), and adds new features (such as RAW support and the ability to take HDR shots). I have barely scratched the surface of it yet (it's really in depth and technical sometimes), but it's definitely fun to play with.
Aaron, my thanks for such an honest and down to earth review. Unfortunately many people get caught up in pixel count and "the latest is the best" etc but you cut through the b/s and spoke honestly and openly. I have been looking for a Canon because they lean to the reds which is what I want because I want footage to match a DJI Spark. I am heavily committed to Panasonic because they are the middle of the road between Canon's redness and Sony's blueness but they don't match the Spark's redness. I am going to go ahead and buy a Canon SX530 on the strength of your review. Again Aaron, my thanks. Keep being awesome. Carl
I have this camera and I agree with you. You can take some excellent pictures as long as the lighting is good. I’ve taken tons of great pictures and some have placed in photo contests.
You talked about touch screens and I remember some time ago reading you can bump into it while shooting and mess stuff up... basically you're always trying to not accidentally touch the screen.
Is the lens cap 49mm? I lost mine after maybe 6 years, I'm seeing different numbers on the internet and (obviously) don't want to buy one that doesn't fit. I even dug out the original box and booklet and that doesn't tell me the number.
I got this for a christmas present from my father a few months ago and works great! The quality on my videos on the camera is great too but your videos somehow look even better. Is there a way I can up the resolution on my videos? My videos at times get out of focus when shooting once in a while and I can see some grain when it's real dark. The pictures however are great all the time though no matter what.
I own this camera as well, and I can say that it does take great pictures and is actually quite fun to play with, the zoom is great and I haven't had any issues with it, and I can say... it is decently durable
The optical zoom will let you get very close up and clear photos vs your phone photos that are very limited in range. What kind of photos are you hoping to get?
@@westside1233211 Small card readers (about the same size as a typical thumb drive) that simply plug into any USB fitting are dirt cheap and work great.
Hello please help. I just got this camera today at a yard sale. Works great. I really like it. I am not a photographer or anything. Just a mom who doesn’t want 10,000+ photos and videos on her cell phone lol. So just needed a point and shoot simple camera lol. I know this is an older camera but the pictures look ancient. Your video looks much better. Any advice for better quality photos? Something I can change in settings?
I know that if you zoom in too far than it's a grainy image. And the key to these cameras is that you need to be in excellent light. Indoors will look pretty terrible, especially dark rooms. Our current phones are much better indoors for photos in darker situations. So I'd try it outdoors in great light and see if you get better results. In auto mode theres not much you'll need to do to get decent photo quality outdoors.
I bought one of these back when they are new, I regret selling it because the 50x optical + 100x digital is cool. A 1200mm lens today for my Sony would be very expensive, I have a 1600mm cheap China lens for $100, but the zoom on that canon is better than the really cheap junk lens.
Aaron. Have you played with the higher ISO settings in lower light? I wonder is a portrait at. 4.5 aperture and an ISO of 800 would work indoors without too much grain.
This isnt a thorough review! You didn't lift the top hinge on the camera I wanted to know about the flash features but overall this was informative, Thanks!
Hey !! How did you upload this video in 1080p quality using this camera ? Does the camera impact the HD quality you can upload to RUclips ? Sorry , I’m new to this !!
I was getting better shots and now I'm not. Odd. Low light struggles some but I've gotten some okay shots. I used to get better photos of my son but now they come out blurry in both automatic and manual with high shutter speed. My son moves around a lot so doesn't stay still. The issue in manual is upping the shutter speed makes it darker(way too dark) and raising the iso and changing the aperture doesn't make a big difference. Raising the flash also shows -2 underexposed. I'm unable to use manual because I get poor photos unless it's very bright and it does pretty well. I also get "busy" sometimes when trying to take shots. I often miss great moments of my son because it's slow to take pictures and stick to my faster camera phone. Galaxy S9.. So frustrating. Any suggestions? Thinking of getting a DSLR with a faster processor.
That is odd, I'd try a factory reset to see if that restores the image quality. As far as the busy message I've never had that, very odd. I had to do a factory reset on my Canon Vixia camcorder because the picture just got awful, and it worked! Also you may need a faster memory card, not sure what you are using, but at least 80mbs. That may help.
hey i need advice on which camera i should buy. I was looking at the canon powershot SX540 HS wifi or Nikon coolpix B500?? any other suggestions for cameras that are not too expensive would be helpful as well!
Panasonic lumix xz300, looks like a little powerhouse. I've never personal used it, just look amazing on paper, and the price on Amazon looks like a great deal.
Understood. And thanks for responding. I'm trying to figure out what kind of camera to buy for vlogging on RUclips, but I am brand new to this and don't know anything at all about cameras. ☹️
Depending on your budget, I'd recommend an entry level dslr or mirrorless with an interchangeable lens. Possibly a Sony a6000ish series type mirrorless, a Canon SL2 or SL3, A Canon T7i, Canon m50. Just to name a few entry level options. They all have flip out touch screens and are fairly small, perfect for vlogging.
Dear Aaron, if I want to make videos on homes ( since I am a realtor). what camera you will recommend? People said Gopro Fusion is simple to use, what is your opinion?
For video I'd recommend a Canon SL2, with a 10-18mm wide angle lens. Or a 24mm f2.8 lens. The SL2 because it is Inexpensive relative to other dslr cameras and produces great video. In good light the 10-18mm wide angle will make rooms look huge, unfortunately it needs really bright rooms for good quality. The 24mm at f2.8 will be much better in lower lit rooms, but it's not nearly as wide as the 10-18mm. The Gopros are wide angle and some do well in lower light, but you can't swap the lenses out for different types of video and photo work.
would this camera be good for my kids plays or for taking video of them outside. I'm just a beginner and looking for something that gives me good clear video. It says this camera is FHD 1080p so I'm assuming this would be clear. What do you think?
Zooming indoors will definitely be a challenge, but just indoors in general is average at best. If a play has good stage lighting it should be fine, but this camera's video quality really drops in average to sub par lighting.
My powershot sx540 cost only £100 on facebook with a bag. it was cheap only because the charger and original box was missing both of which bought afterwards. People actually sell empty boxes for things on ebay great if you want to resell it. After seing mine, a friend bought this cam off of ebay for less than £70. a bargain.
No worries mam. You can get 16gb for just $10. You can find these los price at best buy deal. You can get 32gb 12.99 depend which best buy has one available.
I got it for about $230 or so at Best Buy on a closeout years ago...I got it to upgrade from my SX110 IS. This is bulkier, but it takes great pictures. I find that my old 110 IS is easy to do very closeup shots, like of flowers, for some reason. So I just stand further away and use the zoom and it's OK. Someday I'll figure it out....MANY years ago I had a Canon SLR (circa 1980) with a HUGE Vivitar Zoom lens...believe me, this is better and easier to to use!
I don't think it's good for making RUclips videos. The videos will sound and look very old and low quality. This camera excels in photography due to its zoom range.
The Panasonic dmc fz200. An older camera, but packed with features and has an external mic port for good audio in RUclips videos. Or the newer model, fz300.
Not really, compared to cameras and RUclips videos released now, it would look pretty bad. It's still a capable photo camera, but video is not It's strength.
Sony just released a really good one, but I think it's kind of expensive. I'd recommend one that has a flip screen to see yourself and a mic port for good audio. There are tons of options. If 4k isn't important then the T7i, Sony 6000 and up series, SL2, SL3, etc. All around 500 to 700 to start.
I'd say it doesn't compare, two different leagues. However, for trails and wildlife, it is easy and fun to use. The zoom is amazing, and in sunlight it's very clear, even at the 50x optical zoom . I just haven't had much sunlight. A fun little addition to the bag.

Canon t7i with a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8.

I would get a led camera light for indoor
