Girl you're not alone - I dislike washing my hair too lol If it was a short process I would enjoy wash day. It came out beautiful :)I actually cannot flat twist my hair so close to my scalp. My hair is super thick and prone to tangles. Everytime I try to thoroughly separate as I go down it gets messy. So I opt for the loose French twist crown which actually frames my face better. And you're right - it's all about trial and error. You can't get better at something without practice. Don't be discouraged guys. You all can get the hang of it :)

ItsMeBFairley Okay, I've heard about oiling. Problem is, I have A LOT of hair. It's really hard to get my fingers in there. Does it matter if it's all over my hair then? Cause whenever I try to put a scalp butter on my head, it just does not work, and whenever I've tried to put oil in, it ends up everywhere. Please forgive me for the amateur questions. I've only just grown out my natural hair over the past 2 years, and I grew up with a white mom and no black friends, so... I have no idea what I'm doing and it's so frustrating. Lol
Try tea tree oil on your scalp. Dilute it with water and/or jojoba oil & use a spray bottle to apply directly to the scalp. Because it's liquid, it's easier to get to your scalp that a butter and the spray bottle should help it to not get everywhere. Also, tea tree oil isn't super greasy. So if you're using in between washing, it shouldn't add build up to your hair & scalp. My scalp flakes, too and this has worked well for me :)
