True. It really is an awesome piece of technology! So grateful towards these people, putting everything together in such a harmonious way. I mean don't get me wrong, I had a few problems with it , but they are so prompt and friendly and available that it's an honor to be part of such a team, love it! Yes, it's luxury, but luxury that comes with a lot of common sense and responsibility. Alienware doesn't suck, whoever says that that obviously never used one by themselves, lol ( sour grapes & co. )

Personally I still like the 2nd generation M17x back in 2010. Seems like it was a little more rugged then the models they have out now. Plus I like the way it looks compare to what is out now.

You asked them to personally inspect it before they shipped it to you. That requires touching of the laptop. Fingerprints are a good thing. It's proof that they opened it up, inspected it, and immediately packed it and did not mess with it anymore.

personally, i started off with an $800 lenovo desktop and I still have everything the same except now i have 10gb of ram, all my games (GS,CoD,Titanfall,etc) run at around 90-150fps

I think Alienware displays are really good, as well as the fact that they can play ANY game you throw at them with the settings maxed out. That being said, every time I go into a computer store asking about an Alienware, the sales associates tell me to avoid them at all costs because of their reliability issues and poor customer service.I bought an MSI instead and it's been fantastic so far.

I've purchased an Alienware M17x and an Alienware Desktop about 2 years ago and afterwards I think its like an expensive car. You don't really need one, it is just a expenisve piece of tech that is nice to have.
that is the thickest computer I have ever seen. Why would you spend 2,000 dollars on a thick laptop with outdated specs? You should get a slim Razer Blade with better specs. Alienware is for lazy people who are to lazy to learn how to build a pc. Alienware is owned by Dell by the way... Alienware fanboys are saying "Lenovo Sucks! Dell Sucks! Acer Sucks!" So they are basically saying Alienware sucks also. Lenovo Y50 is also a good choice. 4k on a laptop!

It is not ment for just rich people. Most computers besides alienware are about the same price if not more. Alienwares are 1000-2000$ That's not that expensive plus theres ways of making monthly payments. Some as low as 33$ a month

Alienware is extremely overpriced, if you are interested in PC Gaming, just use the money you were going to use for this, and intsead build your own PC. If you are hardset on a gaming laptop, then may I suggest a laptop from Msi's gaming series, or a good lenovo.

don't forget you did say you asked them to open it and try it out, thats why it has prints all over it. you must have forgotten to ask them, then to clean it. you get what you pay for, this is a very powerful laptop
Im getting my first gaming laptop soon. I was thinking of starting with a lenovo ideapad y510p, but with me being so inexperienced, I saw this and was like, "I love the look". Im glad I read the comments before deciding on alienware

It's actually a pretty nice laptop. I've had one for about one year and I have had absolutely no problems with it.
I don't want to seem like i'm arguing you're opinion, but there are reasons people go for a PC; graphic design, movie altering/editing, programming, creative websites, shopping online, watching internet TV, listening to internet radio; hundreds of reasons.. I'll give the the new consoles some credit, they seem to have good hardware for the price and what it's capable of. Still, there are multiple factors of a computer to me, that outweigh consoles - upgrade-ability, flexibility, customization.
Imo, this old Alienware looks better than the most current Alienwares.

for cheap you're gonna want to go with Asus, they have the best warranty coverage. I've been gaming on the G75vw for a few years now and still works like a charm. I would only recommend Alienware if you want the best of the best gaming laptops with dual sli, anything less then go somewhere else.

I've had nothing but issues with Alienware, the rest of the Dell range is absolutely bloody fantastic for the money, but the Alienware series always broke down within about a week with me, NEVER had good luck from 'em, a grand total of $990,000 worth of Alienware gaming laptops and PCs have been sent to me for out of warranty repair and any that I have owned (which one of them was just plain dead after 4 hours!)
Honestly, coming from someone who had an M11x Alienware, they AREN'T worth the price, good thing I gotmy first M11x for a steal.
I built my own desktop that is probably 150x more powerful than an Alienware, they're visually exquisite, but don't run as good as everyone says.
the only thing i dislike about all the Alienware laptops are the keyboard. it seems a little old fashion. but other than that, its awesome.
the new one's alieneffect was below the keyboard panel but the old one was at the button that looks better and shiny though the old one was more expensive

I don't think you can build a laptop (processor and graphics card soldered in), however you can customize one from companies like cyberpowerpc and ibuypower if that's what you mean.
Alienware's are admittedly the most beautiful laptops you can get. However you can get an equally performing Clevo/Sager laptop for much less.
I'm going to buy one but I hope they build them with non-glare screen as well because as it is on the video it's horrible - almost like a mirror.

If your searching JBHIFI Australia, Its $4000 - $1000, it cant be 4K or more, it depends what kind of alienware, normally they are 2K to 4K
While Alienware might have top notch hardware and product, I just compare it to Apple. It works on fanbase and unnecessary addons. Alien emblem, glowing parts, sleek dark futuristic look. It's a brand. Put these specs into an Apple and you wouldn't buy it. You pay a lot more than you should. Personally if you're set on gaming, buy a PC Tower. For what you're gonna pay for an Alienware, you can massively increase life and power by just getting parts. You can play most games on a £500 budget. Buy anything near the GeForce 650 Ti Boost mark for GPU and you can play anything really, Battlefield 4 will run on low settings with that. Want more GPU, pay £200 for it rather than the £100 for the 650Ti. A GeForce 780 even is plenty. Go for a Titan if you have to. Spend a good amount on your CPU too. Quad core preferably
Alienware IS quite a bit like apple. Alienware is a "brand name", so they up their costs much more. You could build a similar computer for less, or a better computer for about the same price. However, I love my Alienware. If you have an Alienware, you also get bragging rights :P
Whatever you are comfortable with :) A computer is a big investment and if you prefer Alienware, Windows, Apple or even Linux then its fine. But for extreme efficiency and value, a custom PC always wins.
I agree completely. Custom PCs have better quality, and better prices. My Alienware came with windows 7, but I also have Ubuntu on it, and plan to get steam OS

Alienwares are PCs.... and just saying, alienware laptops are usually around 1,300 USD, while a custom built gaming desktop is usually in the price range of 500 to 800 USD
I heard you can get a separate custom-sized screen cover, which I think is called the "MattScreen Anti-Reflection Cover". :) I was doing research one time when I was into saving up for this laptop and stumbled across it ... or something similar :P

I had an alienware for years in the past but they are nothing special today. you go to the site and see all the Cool alienware stuff then you get a little pop up that asks if dell can help your experience. so pretty much alienware is just a Dell with a fancy case.

Does the power brick cord act as a surge protector as well if plugging directly into a power outlet? I ask because I had my power cord plugged into a 7 outlet surge protector but last night while gaming, the green light on the power brick would go out on me. I would have to unplug it then plug it back in and it would work for about 20minutes until going out again. So I took it out of the surge protector and plugged it right into my wall outlet. Hasn't gone out on me yet. Thanks in advance
maybe because it's new and never been opened. I would be a little fuzzy about it too if i see my newly bought laptop with finger prints which isnt mine and could probably mean that someone else has been going through my stuff.

Yes it is a good gaming laptop. Worth? Probably not. For gaming laptops, you pick one from ASUS or MSI, They have powerful laptops for smaller size and A LOT cheaper. If you want to go for the brick laptop, they have them too with possibly the highest end (stock laptop) without any customization.
tbh i wouldn't spend an extra $100-300 for lights.
I think the lights are "eating" pretty much from the battery :P
May I say, those are some mighty fine shoes!
actually i don't recommend an alienware lap top because it will defect so fast.
if you really want a gaming lap top i would recommend you to choose on of two,
either you buy MSI GT 70 ( it has the same features exactly ), or of you have the money to buy an alienware just design your own PC with higher performance and for saving 900$.
also razer blade would be a good choice.
ask me when you need any information about gaming PCs and how to get the higher performance with lower prices ^_^
