I love my Benelli 135. I’ve done some mods such as the Werx exhaust, uni air filter, 14t on front and 38t on the rear sprockets and more. I’ve raced a grom with this gearing and a huge gap in between. This bike is definitely better than the grom IMO so I agree with everything you’ve mentioned. This video is spot on.
After owning a grom for over a year then now owning this for a bit i can honestly say this is the better bike performance wise. The aftermarket parts will catch up soon as well. Thanks for watching
I had both 21 Grom & the 135. I prefer the Benelli and sold the Grom. Honda gave me the excuse of blocked injectors but the reality was the Benelli was better for me with higher speed limits nearby (no regrets). 4300 Benelli 1yr on roads & was dropped off to my door vs $5000 for Grom with 1yr on roads.
I've been looking at these for about 6 months now. I love the color! And you say 65ish @ 280ish? Goodness, I'll be looking to upgrade soon. Great vid! Keep the good content coming
I like everything about the little Benelli but that ridiculous exhaust IMO. I have a dealer about 60 miles away, so I may have to ride my Versys X300 over there to check it out. Thanx for the info.
Thank you sir for this review with a bigger rider. I'm about the same weight. So, you'd pick this over a Honda Monkey too? I need more of a dual miniMoto but, I don't plan to get too crazy off road, just lite trails. I have seen people put on/off road tires on Groms and they're ok in the dirt it looks like. This with a new fender and all terrain 4 ply tires would work great for me looks like. I found a green one ;) Thanks again, stay safe ;)
OK, the Benelli is a Grom clone just like the various Vaders. The problem I see most about the clones are poor quality control issues (welding, cheap metal parts, poor quality bolts etc) and the need to substitute Honda parts into the clone to make it more reliable. So, is the Benelli quality closer to the Vader clones or closer to the Grom quality?
@@tat2wheelz That makes sense now that I look at the prices. A new Grom costs $ 3,400 to $ 3,600. A new Bennelli locally costs $ 3,200 and a new Vader around $ 1,300. Looks like I'm going to go Vader. I'm not sure if I'll like a mini motorcycle so why pay almost 3X the price of the Vader to find out. Thanks for putting me on the right track to make a decision.
I’m trying to decide between this and the new 2022 Honda grom it’s a hard choice the new grom also has a 5 speed. And the grom parts are easier to get. I love the benelle but I’m worried about performance parts. Also the tnt135 speedo is out by 10kph
Parts are getting easier to get for these. And the speedo is an easy fix as well. For the money and more top end speed i would go Benelli hands down every time
@@viciousviolet3783 the tnt still has a better top end because of the HP difference. So it boils down to that and style. I much prefer the 135 over the grom. And I have owned both
"Better" is a relative term. It has better perfomance handling ...yes. But ..more sophistication and heavier (30 kg) My take is if you needing limited highway use then yes Benelli best The Grom on paper may lack the specs of the Benelli and appear cruder and less value BUT...Grom has the prooven rugged reliability easier maintanence and back up of Honda. Having used both I prefer urban riding the Grom 4 spd as the torqe curve is well spread (stock bike) . Groms engine braking and nimble ness is addictive in urban traffic. Benelli is a gorgeous bike seems more capable reassuring and capable on short highway hops. For me personlly I avoid highway riding and loading and extra 30kg heavier bike onto pickup is a strain. The ergonomics of Grom could be improved(seat has you constantly slipping forward) Key access esp for steering lock another fail. Im not happy with footbrake access(have to twist foot inwards) . Horn button smothers indicator button. I still find myself riding along and indicator still flashing long after turn. HOWEVER.. the simplicity of Honda motor means I can do my own mantainence...eg valve adjustment etc. I may change to Kawasakis mini moto version as its lighter and automatic . Thus making it less effort jus point and go..😂
Good one brother - how about seat height? It was a little hard to tell in the video, but being 5'10, your knees didn't seem very bent while flat footed. Although I ride my Grom more often than any of the 4 bikes in my garage, I've always said a Grom is not a good first bike, due to it's lack of power, but like you said, seems like this one answers that call.
The seat height is slightly higher than the Grom. The suspension is hand over fist much better. I just ordered Kenda Big Bloc tires. So off road stuff is coming.
@@tat2wheelz nice man! Yeah the suspension is my biggest gripe about the Grom since I spend more than half my time offroad with it, will be looking to upgrade. I have the maxxis m6024 and my buddy has the shinko mobbers, which have significantly bigger lugs than the maxxis, let us know how the kendas treat ya.
@@JonDotCom7 that was one of my biggest complaints as well. So far I have only bottomed out once. And I really had to try lol. We are taking them to the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend for some dual sport fun!
@@JonDotCom7 we definitely are blessed to be so close to all these roads. Have you seen the groms tackle the TaT? They were from New Zealand. It was crazy
You are absolutely right. No I have not as of yet. I plan to do so though soon. However, I base this on the ability to pass with the 135 vs not being able to pass with the grom. So the Benelli, although not vastly, is faster on the top end.
@@tat2wheelz parts wise it seems better. I wish honda would put some more work into the engine but I think they are rolling out updates slowly as they are selling fine now. They are putting a new 5 speed and oil filter system in the 2021 model but im concerned about a price hike. These bikes need to stay cheap to justify buying them as any 250cc bike is vastly more usable than these mini bikes
Hey bud did you have to adjust your preload collar for a man of your stature? We are almost identical i size so I really wanted to know because i am literally weeks away from getting 1
Hey I'm fixing to get. Benelli tnt135 but I heard the headlights suck at night even with the rubber band trick so what do you recommend me swapping the lights or adding a new projector ??
It is limited on width of tire so it would keep you in the small tire category. However Kenda makes a killer race tire for these. We had them on ours and loved them on the Tail of the Dragon.
I bought a 2018 grom and paid close to 4k for it. I bought this last year and it was right at 3k out the door... but different dealerships and all. However after owning the Honda and the Benelli I prefer the Benelli
Ok good, lol. I promised my grandpa and dad that I would never be caught dead on a crotch rocket! Since it's not that means I can consider buying one because for only $2700ish this little thing seems pretty nice. Since I'm a beginner I'm considering getting one of these to learn on and then trading it in as the down payment on that new sexy orange 2021 Street Bob! Plus I only weigh around 150lbs so I might could get 70 mph out of it which is plenty fast to learn on.

It was the start of a movement so it will always be top dog. However, others have taken some of the market share. But that is to be expected

Depends on your state law. In TN you have to have a license for any bike 125cc and up. Or a driver's license peroid for anything smaller
