Great reaction Britt! Yes Tom was born and raised in Canada. His girlfriend Nova's Canadian too. But Tom (not sure about Nova) got his US citizenship last year, so he's officially American. He's always loved this country and you can hear it in his songs. He's done several songs that have something America-related in the title (American Dreamz, America, American Flags, Your America).

I personally feel that people can say what the hell they want. The n word in my opinion is no exception. Sure, it was used as a derogatory name for people of color in the past; but many of those claiming offense to it today were never there and need to move on. It's pretend offense. Some people are just looking for a reason to act offended. It's like they think the more things they're offended by, the more brownie points they get. I don't get it myself. This is one of the most disrespectful songs I've ever heard....and I'm here for it. It's also the funniest diss track I've heard since back when Em and ICP were going at it. I'm not really invested in either of these guys, and have no real way of knowing what is or isn't true in this "scene" because I'm not involved in it. But I will say this, and you're from the south too so I think you won't misunderstand:
Don't play with the south. And DEFINITELY don't try to act like you represent us, especially if you're fake. The hospitality is real, but that good shit that Church or UGK or any of those dudes from your neck of the woods talk about....that's real too. And it feels weird to put it out there like that, because I don't ever have to think about it explicitly, it's just how it is. Pretty much across the board, as far as I can tell.
And there's been a couple of other things very recently that don't involve "country rap" or whatever AT ALL, where people who should know better have been saying some wild shit in public. The kind of stuff that could get you lost in the woods or the swamp. So out of line you're not even mad or offended, just kind of amazed at whatever possessed them to do it. 2024 is WEIRD so far.
