    I kayaked this area many times in the nineties, often for up to a week. The memories of these trips have sustained me thru some difficult times. We rarely saw another person, as the fisheries had pretty much collapsed. The occasional person we saw were scuba divers after sea urchins for the Japanese market. We thrived on shellfish and mackerel. Fires from driftwood with colourful highlights from the salts in the wood. Time has stolen my ability to take these trips, so I rely on folks like the Northern Scavenger. Thank you.

    Nice, amazing amount of stuff to spot with just a snorkel. Our east coast has so much life, but so many people have no idea.
    You could throw on a couple pounds of weight when you go next time. Enough to help you get down without wasting a lot of energy, but not so much that you aren't still buoyant, and don't stick your hand where it might get stuck. I used to love snorkelling.

    • @robadr13
      @robadr13 3 года назад

      It seemed counterintuitive to me - stuffing it randomly into a bag would seem to create many more wrinkles than folding it. And putting more pressure on those wrinkles because (I think..) you have to compress it more 'stuffed' vs 'folded' to get it into the bag. These guys are definitely experts. But I've been folding a lightweight tent I use for bike camping for 20 years now, and still no damage. :-)

    The flounder got me really excited. I bought a place on the Eastern Shore in 2005 and think it's the best place to be. The fishing has been disappointing but now I am psyched. Thank you. Hopefully, when vaccinated and tested I can get back across the border this summer. N.S and its people are the best!

      @Hard Core Canuck i live in Porters Lake. But owned a camp for 2 years on the ocean in Moser River. I loved it there. But unless you can work from home, or have a fly in/fly out kind of job, it's not the greatest. And there was nothing for kids. The closest school is over 30 minutes away by car.

    Years ago I did a lot of surfing on the Eastern Shore. I was sitting in glassy swells one day off the point at Grand Desert (we used to call it 'The Range' - use to be a navy firing range) when I happened to turn around and saw a fin in the water about 100 ft away. Never got out of the water so fast.
    I see it's marked as Grand Desert Beach now. Back in the day it was a no-access zone, with a gate and warning signs about unexploded ordnance. Of course we were young and immortal, and picked our way around the occasional 3 inch shell casings to get to the best point break anywhere near Halifax. :-)

    I kayaked in this area often. And I might even recognize this specific island - is it the one right off Tangier? If so, then this campsite is the one often used by Coastal Adventures, the kayak outfitters with whom I've gone many times. In any case, I love this part of our Province and I'm stunned by the underwater footage. I try to sit still in my kayak and look down at the kelp forests, I had no idea it was so beautiful. Thank you!

    Now come on fellas stop having so much fun will ya...lol All I can say Noah is that your video capturing skills have gotten so much better then when you first started. The drone footage was spectacular and awe inspiring to say the least. The underwater footage was second to none. It is a whole new world below the surface and you captured it flawlessly. Video quality was amazing to see as well. Nice to see all the sea life and just how diverse it is down there. I think I would have maybe taken one of those grates that was hanging in the tree and put it on the fire and then put the baguettes on it to slowly toast it and help to melt the cheese. What did you decide to do with the dressing? Which one did you end up using? Inquiring minds want to know...hahahaha...lol. Please keep these type of videos coming and keep promoting our Beautiful province of Nova Scotia. You have become an unofficial ambassador since your arrival here from Ontario. What part of Nova Scotia do you live in? I am in Lower Sackville . Maybe an idea for a future video would be to go across the province by way of the Shubie Canal Lock system through Shubie Park/ Dartmouth area all the way to the Bay of Fundy. That is a video I would watch for sure. Now it is time to just wait and see where your next adventure will take you and us. Cheers and beers there mates. Will see you on the next video. Tom.
    Oh yeah that most definitely was porcupine poo that was under that tree....:-)

    • @NorthernScavenger
      @NorthernScavenger  4 года назад +1

      I appreciate the kind words Tom and always love having you along for the adventure! The dressing technique involved a stick for the dijon, and a couple drops of vinaigrette to top it off. I'm based out of the city but the great thing about Nova Scotia is that you can get to the coast or backcountry in less than 20 minutes. Regarding our upcoming trips, you may have hit it on the head ;) Stay tuned!

    Aloha from Hawai'i! I'm not sure if you'll see this comment, but I'll make it anyway. Snorkeling in NS sure is different from here! Your comments on shellfish- taking bans reminds me of when a couple of us might have been poachers! In 1965 when we were 16, some friends and I hatched a plan to pedal our bicycles from Orono, Maine to Truro NS to visit our former high school classmate, Dave. His father had finished graduate studies at UMaine, and the family moved home. For some inexplicable reason, our parents okayed the trip. We pedaled to Bar Harbor, caught the old Blue Nose (RIP), and started north. Somewhere south of Digby, we had to camp on a beach, where we found zillions of clams, so we had a huge steamed clam fest that night. If our take was illegal, we luckily didn't get caught! It's hard to believe that our trip took place over 55 years ago. I miss my frequent trips to Canada from the 1950s - 1970s. You and your countrymen are beautiful.

    The biggest problems the police and others like yourself have with off grid camping, is the garbage that is left behind.! The remnants looked most definitely like porcupine, and a fair size one at that.! All of our planets oceans have been ravaged and decimated by commercial fishing, especial from trying to competing with China.who has over fished with impunity.! One man can still make a difference when it come to catch and release.! Your doing good and I thank you for that. Thank you with thumbs up and all that good stuff moving forward.!

    tame islands, the local residents families have lived on these islands and used them for years, Sandy Cove , many of us have seen after a large amount of weekend warriors toilet paper and bathroom all through the woods especially around the beaches, if the government continues to promote our area maybe they need to build bathrooms-it can get pretty disgusting, fire ban was on, not that it matters, if you are careful, government has too many regulations especially the shellfish we have been eating it for years, better than anywhere else and a mussel farm just up the road and not now government tells us we are not allowed to eat our own shellfish

      You're right Kevim, there's an internal struggle promoting these pristine places as I would hate to see them misused. Having a large community of folks that rally for conservation and proper management is a great way to keep these places wild.
