      There is an old video of them talking about it but a new conversation more in depth would be awesome. I was 10 when that movie came out, loved it.

    As a freestyler at the time it was a big deal. A kickflip was done completely different back in the day. At first Mullen called it an "ollie flip" and it became a "magic flip" later. Calling it a kick flip was confusing for a very long time since we already had a kickflip that was done differently. Great memories for sure.

      What was a kick flip?

    • @candyandbrian
      @candyandbrian 20 дней назад +2

      @@jacobsims8307 Ride in a parallel stance and turn one foot a little sideways so the toes are hanging off then hook the top of the foot right behind the big toe under the board. Jump up and flick the board under footed. It's easier to land switch for some people, depending on your dominate leg.

    My favorite thing about this podcast is Jason's enthusiasm for life. He just can't hide it. Interruptions or no, I'm here for Ellis.

    I learned the kickflip grab pretty far back as it just made sense to combine two tricks I had very well at the time, Frontside grab ollies & the kickflip. There was another guy in my neighborhood who did them too, Ray Simmonds. When Shackle Me Not came out Ray and Danny were both seen doing them on effectively street, Benecia and Skate camp specifically. I think that's where most people learned about them. Later, when Danny took them to vert, it was really mindblowing at the time.

    I got The End in 99 and that Reynolds kickflip over stairs filmed from above is so magic. It was nice to have that to learn from

      Great video. And the A.Reyonolds part is totally sick. He makes record jumps while doing tricks making it look like kindergarten to him.

    I remember my accidental trick…
    I reached out and made my first skate friend in school after seeing him with a board… he asked me if I could teach him how to Ollie… I said “sure”
    We went to skate and during our session I show him where to put his feet and I go to demonstrate… the whole time I’m shitting my pants because I was still sketchy with my Ollie
    Popshuvit to Primo
    I was so shocked all I could do was just… step back in awe, I couldn’t believe I landed it and so clean…
    My new found friend, unaware of the total lack in my ability was like…”good job but you didn’t finish the trick… now stop showing off and teach me an Ollie”

    Still can't land a kick flip, got the heelie but not the kick. It's why I just love Ollie's and riding as fast as I can! By the way I'm 47 and didn't start getting serious about skating until covid. So maybe my fault....

      I had the same problem but opposite when I first started skating. Kickflips were comfortable but heel flips felt weird. But inward heel flips are still just out of reach.
