Thanks so much for this!! Gruntruck is my all time favorite band! So great to see this footage of some extremely talented and underrated musicians. RIP Ben!!
A great band that deserved way more respect !!! A band that jelled together and put out kick ass songs! I remember seeing these guys in a small gig in California where Ben was laughing at me and my friends when we were singing word for word all there lyrics in sync with Ben along with air guitar. Funny stuff,we were all in our early 20’s and all of us bought there mini 4 song CD that they just finished. Great Band !!!
I grew up in Seattle, in the grunge years. I remember when these guys practiced at the old Sunny Jim peanut butter warehouse. Seattle was insane then. Everyone was in each other's bands and we all hung out at band practices & drank 40s of green death. So many stories...
Saw "Brother Kane" with the "Lesbian Muff Divers" there in 1996 or 1997. Met Chris Cornell's wife at the Off Ramp around the corner and got a date with the Michigan born and bred "Lesbian Muff Divers". They were Jaycee and Taylor from Northwest Centerfolds. Still have their card with their real names and numbers written in. Great memory.
As a musician, the whole "Is it 2 or 4" argument in the studio is so spot on. Wild to see I wasn't the only one that got into a stupid arguments over how the song is supposed to be played! They were probably both counting the riffs differently in their heads haha
I remember having to do all this asking around to figure out that what I was listening to on an unlabeled mixtape my brothers friend gave me was "Crucifunkin'" by Gruntruck. I thought it was Chris Cornell and Tad. So long ago that was. This was a fun little doco. Thanks so much for this and WELL DONE!!!
I'm posting this, because I think it's a good story. I say "story" because I can not remember the exact dates, so if my dates are off, fuck you, that's how I remember it. Anyway, spent a good part of '92 travelling cross country, from Va. Beach, Va. to Seattle, blah blah blah, I was back home in VB when there was some surf, I happened to park across Atlantic Ave. from the Peppermint Beach Club, and I was crossing the street when I noticed the Marquise Sign said "Gruntruck". I stopped in the middle of the street and almost got hit, regaining my wits, I finished crossing the street, but not without a few guys sitting at the entrance that noticed my...almost getting hit. they asked why I would stop running across the street, so I explained I had been in Seattle a few months before and was turned on to this band. They asked "Have you heard of Gruntruck" and I was like "Hell yeah, those fucking guys rock!" They asked me my name and after I told them, they introduced themselves as the band. Needless to say I was floored, they asked if I coming to the show, and I replied I didn't even know they were coming. They asked for my name again and said "If show up I wouldn't have to pay"...blah blah blah I showed up at the door around 9pm and told the cashier my name, they checked and I got in free. It was 1 hell of a show and I'll never forget it. These guys are real people, just like you and me. Sorry to hear about the early departure of some. Thank you for the memories.
so glad you liked it...they were all so awesome ...and completely true as I remember it. (And if I don't have Alzheimer's, some of the members moved around, and played different instruments during the show) I'll never forget it...unless I do :(
RKCNDY was such a great venue. My best friend at the time lived across the street. We'd hang out at his place until the line started to queue up. I never saw Gruntruck there, tho.
I saw Brother Kane there and the Lesbian Muff Divers opened for them. I hung out with the girls later at the Off Ramp next door. Great night with two of Northwest Centerfolds" finest. Thank you Jayce and Taylor for the great memory. I'm back in Michigan wondering where you two ended up....
I remember Tommy from high school here in Oak Harbor where The Accused originated from and it had been a fuckin grip since we hung out.. I didn't even realize he was the Guitarist for Gruntruck as I was Bustin my Ass for a few record label's as a Scout and building my Arsenal for a Revolution back in the Myspace days.. So I hit them up and asked if they were Down for some local show's and the U.S.Tour I was putting together and Tommy hit me back and told me to keep it on the DL but Ben had just died like a day or 2 before.. RIP Ben.. I was really bummed out about the news and said I know it's probably not the right time and that I know everyone's dealin with Ben's loss as it hit me pretty hard and I didn't really know him and he's one of your bro's but Man you need to find someone too replace him as soon as you can to keep this shit on a roll.. I'm hooked up and let me know if I can help you or the band because this is some heavy shit and I can tell your not into talkin about anything right now so I'll let you go so you can through this.. Tommy told me Yeah.. Yeah I'll hit ya up.. wow it has been a while and the guys are here right now. so yeah Club Methhh I gotcha now ! Took a yr. or better before I heard from Tommy again and gave me his managers number to book The Accused for a gig here on the Island and found out We both lived in Oxnard and knew each other when we were kid's Surfers and someone had stolen his watch and I was the kid who beat that fuckers ass and got his watch back.. The really weird thing is I also knew Brandon Cruz from The Courtship of Eddies Father / Dr.Know and all 3 of us ended up working in what we loved most the Music Industry.. Some of the most Awesome People I've Ever Met.. Also All 3 of Us are Living Legend's what are the Odd's on that..? and is what I call the Power of 3 and What It Be.. Crazy Love ! Thanks for Sharing the Love Here also Fuck~Yeah ! Brutally Brothers & Sisters ! \m/ O_ x \m/ "BONES"
It's cool to see something made about this very underrated band. While I like some of the big Seattle grunge bands, it would have been cool to be around when this was still a relatively underground scene. Bands like Tad, Gruntruck, Skin Yard deserve more credit than they get.
I'm a 70s child but was always curious about the grunge/punk/ska thing that came out of left field in the early 90s. Never even heard of this band [Gruntruck] but can see a lot of 'famous grunge' acts that came out of that scene were heavily influenced by them.
Is it 2 or is it 4? (I've had many similar "conversations" with various band mates.. brings back memories.) And long live the mighty Chilli Cheese Burrito!) 🍻👍
Update I Retired about a Year and a half ago. I posted a Tweet with a play list this is in.. "Some of The Old School" Still Showin Some Love in 2020 While Kickin Trump's Ass.. Anyone Want to Collect $80Mil. for His Head..? Hit Me !
Thanks so much for this!! Gruntruck is my all time favorite band! So great to see this footage of some extremely talented and underrated musicians. RIP Ben!!
I saw Gruntruck at the Tressel in Everett Wa in the early 90's so much fun, one of my favorite bands.
@@davidfunk4342 you idiots dont know how to have fun. Just do drugs u seattle junkies ruined all music
@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 you dumb. Not everybody was a drug addict.
It's great that RUclips lets music keep living on it seems without it alot of older stuff would be gone forever
Every time I watch this tears come to my eyes. Ben went way too soon! But we're keeping him alive. Long live Gruntruck!
I was at that Yakima show with them and AIC. I remember I got hit with a CD when they threw it in the crowd! Great show.🤘

RKCNDY really was the best club to see local bands.

RKCNDY and Off Ramp... Where the best of the sh!t happened!! OK Hotel for the All Ages!! What a killer time in Seattle!!
I'll also mention the Vogue downtown with a jump down the street to the Frontier Room for drinks and the Crocodile Cafe for more music!!
Off Ramp was my favorite venue back then. Good times indeed.
Awesome band. Above me the best song from 1992 album (Push)

Tom Dyer at 5:06. I loved his dry sense of humor. I recorded a couple times at his studio.in the 80s.
All three of their records are very very good
Great doc. I wish these guys, or Skin Yard, were still doing it.
Great doc
I am metal but always liked the heavier grunge stuff too...Gruntruck were a cool band with great albums.
una delle migliori band di seattle!!!purtroppo sottovalutati,ma con un potenziale molto più alto di tante altre più famose!!!

I dig the grittiness of Gruntruck

Layne Staley brought me here;)
Yup he tried to stalk layne and got kicked off the tour for being a weirdo and creeping layne out
Any chance of some complete pro shot gruntruck shows ??
Man. I wish.
Is it 2 or is it 4? (I've had many similar "conversations" with various band mates.. brings back memories.) And long live the mighty Chilli Cheese Burrito!) 🍻👍
very nice
Guys should have made it big
make sure you listen to their long lost, self titled 3rd LP. It is a worthy successor to Push.
So good
Is there a live version of Machine Action ANYWHERE????
Kevin Gomora
Mural Amphitheater, Seattle, 1992.

Offramp
i have never heard of these guys. if the singer didn't rip off layne stayley they may have gotten bigger
they released music before AIC. Layne actually admitted they were a favorite band of his and inspired him.
@@thunderkisss well good you know something. It still makes them no better. They had talent but self loathing kept the group from moving forward
lmfao He ripped off Layne..... Laynes favorite band the singer Ben ripped off his biggest fan.... wow your bold.
Yall seattle folks were so spoiled wtf lol
