My husband is italian and he was living in Polan for 4 years. After this time He can order beer, and buy some stuff in supermarket (becouse there is no need to talk there).
I am living in Italy for 2 years and i have no problems with talking to the people.
My advice is to move to Italy :)

I feel your frustration. I study and learn, but don't really use Italian enough to learn fluency. My husband is from Perugia. He moved to the states in 1998 at the age of 35. I find the best results when I use Duo lingo EVERYDAY! Also love Lucrezia's lessons. love you two also. Thank you! BTW, the language I studied at University was German (Deutsch) would have come in handy if my husband was German. 😁😀😊
I use duolingo and I love it because I can learn Italian as a Spanish speaker, which helps me to make connections with what I already know. :)

I`m currently learning french and Korean. I would start learning Italian before Korean, since I`m Brazillian and both languages have a lot of similarities. But I`m lazy, and Italian seems like you need energy. AHAHAHHA. It`s such a powerful language when I listen, all the r`s and the entonation... hahaha Though every time i watch one of your videos i feel the urge to try some italian.

Hey Alan, I can recommend 'Alberto ItalianoAutomatico' on youtube. Especially the first videos in which he speaks very slowly... You watch the videos and repeat that several times and you can also read the subtitles. I do it every day and it really had an huge influence on my fluency in Italian. E Alberto è davvero simpatico! Vi mando un abbriaccione!

Thats quite scary that Alan hasnt learned Italian after five years??? I was crazy about a Basque Girl,I mean INSANE about a Basque Girl,so intense was I about her that I went to Euskadi and learned as much Basque as I could,also learning more Spanish than I thought I could,I was able to hold conversations and have basic vocab in Basque and even better skills in Espanol ,that was my love for that girl in tangible form.What Im trying to say is if someone loves you they will learn the language for you,I would worry after five years that he still hasnt got Italian,right now Im NUTS about an Italian girl,I mean NUTS about her,so............Im learning Italian!!! How??? in a brilliant way,first I have finished the Duolingo course and keep it Gold every day,Secondly I scan the Italian newspapers websites and try to read the headlines and short articles,thirdly and this is my secret weapon,I go through all my DVDs and Blurays and look for ITALIAN SUBTITLES and ITALIAN DUBBED movies and watch famous scenes over and over and over again,right now Im watching Eyes wide shut and Psycho in Italian,amazing! I watched Eyes wide shut in sections with simple dialogue ,speaking the dialogue as the character speaks,reading the dialogue in the subtitles and replaying short scenes,its scary how quickly you learn Italian! another great one for minimal dialogue is 2001,especially Hals voice in Italian,go to your Dvds and Blurays and check the back of the box if its in Italian,slap it on and learn,watch it over and over,hearing real life dialogue ,back to Alan, I mean if you cant learn the language for someone?? what gives!? Im IRISH and I can do it,so can you dude!

Flash Academy App for me, in my opinion , it still too difficult for me to learn, even the lesson 1, not to mention lesson 2 and afterwards.
BTW, you have to purchase the App for unlock Lesson 2.

there is also an app called duolingo, and it works really well
