  • In this video, I fix the chipped paint on my refinished tub. Three years after I had my cast iron tub refinished, the paint has started to flake off. Before I re-siliconed the tile tub surround, I used some Super Glue Porcelain Chip Fix and it worked great! I wouldn't use it on something that is gouged but it would work best on chipped, scratched, or cracked surfaces. If you have ever used this or something like it, let me know in the comments how it worked!

      I had an old tub I think was cast iron that I wanted to replace. I had seen videos showing what I thought was the same type of tub being broken up with a sledge hammer. So I asked my son-in-law to do it for me. An hour later he had only managed to break off chips of the porcelain. I told him to stop because it obviously wasn’t working. It eventually was removed but in one piece and it took two men. About 7-9 years later my son-in-law still gives me a hard time about it if I ask him to help me with anything. 😏

    I've used epoxy paint in the past. It lasts a good little while. The super glue may be better. I've never tried it. I have a kitchen sink downstairs with a chip. I'll get me some and try it.

    Nicely done its good to know. I also installed my own tile work and grouted between the tiles and the tub and then had the tub refinished. So far the refinish has not come off like yours here maybe the guy sanded the tub better along the edge but I have no idea I did not want to bother him so I did not watch over his shoulder while he was working and it's a bit tight in the bathroom. I guess I will see in years to come but it's good to know how to repair in case it happens.

    Awesome job Matt. Did you glue extra chips to the bill of your hat?

  • @5Iron
    @5Iron Месяц назад +1

    I have used this with mixed results. The coats are very thin. That's great for fixing a hairline crack. But anything thicker and you need multiple coats. The stuff dries 'soft' so if you try to repair a chip in a cup you need a lot of coats and then the repair is 'spongy' (I know he said don't do that.)

    that's a neat tool you're using to remove the caulking...where did you find it?

  • @colleen5169
    @colleen5169 20 дней назад

    **Tip** to stop from drying up..
    When closing products such as "Porcelain Repair Super Glue" & other glues with screw tops (even if they have a push pin)...
    Put some Saran Wrap or a piece of a plastic bag stretched over the opening, THEN screw on the top; or push the PIN in...
    I got SO sick of buying multiple glues @ $5 using them 1x, trying to use them again & they were either glued shut, dried out and/or both.. ALL the big names!
    Since I've been doing this trick I've had the same glue over 2 years! Without the top on! Using a small piece of Saran cling wrap.

    Do you know of anything that would work on an acrylic tub for the same type of thing?

  • @colleen5169
    @colleen5169 20 дней назад

    I remove the caulking with the curved pick you were using. I push behind seal from top & drag then repeat under. Or use a sharp new razor. With both you can feel the thin tips against wall/grout & have more control.. goes much quicker also.
    I have a very old porcelain coated metal tub (I guess) my old roommate used (and destroyed) the bathroom.
    I'm about to rip up floors & walls. I noticed a chip on the floor of the tub. Would this product be your suggestion or have you used anything else for my type of tub. It's never been resurfaced.
