My dog Maxx is like that. But really HATES other dogs. We figure he was raised with a cat/s and got traumatized by other dogs as a puppy. Sadly our cats never really want much to do with him lol but tolerate him. He's so excited on walks when a cat just sits/lays there and lets him come up and say hi.
It's tough enough being a socially awkward human, can't imagine being socially awkward in a species that's 99% high energy extroverts 😂 good call to get a cat, parents!
@Elisabetta she does not claim she rescued the cat from a shelter once, and honestly there are a lot of purebreds in shelters. The video aint even about her rescuing the cat, it is about the dog that was depressed until they got the cat so i do not see how she portaits herself as some sort of savior. They are not „using“ their animals for selfish reasons, you have a service dog if you have spontaneous seizures or other medical issues. Working together with animals is how we domesticated them in the first place and quite frankly they are built to be companions for thousands of years, thats coexistence not slavery.
That is why change comes to our lives I believe, For instance, when someone loses a job, or something happens to make you move on. I truly believe we are placed where we need to be at different times of our life. It's not always easy, but if He ask you to go, you may hesitate to do it, so, things just happen. Your influence, just like this cat, can be of great value to someone, somewhere other then where you are now. You just never know who or what you may be helping or doing for someone else, even saving a life.

Samson sounds like he has a Type-A personality - very serious and focused on work / achievement. Probably ideally suited to being a service dog. But just as stressed out as similar humans. I'm glad Cleo has enabled him to enjoy life and be happy.
This is how my dog is, he is scared of other dogs and doesn’t know not to play with them. We have a cat that walked through our doggy door one day and they became best friends. They share a bed and play all the time now. It’s really cute seeing their friendship grow and see how my dog learns to become more playful

Service dogs do their job because they love them. All dogs need jobs because of their drive. Service dogs have plenty of time to be dogs, like mine. He lives alone with me and enjoys the peace, but still loves when he's not on duty. Dogs WANT to have a job. If a service dog isn't enjoying its job, it should be washed (retired) Though my boy gets all the playtime he needs, he is still medical equipment and not a pet.
Also, service dogs are trained to not have any reaction to other dogs due to people bringing their yappy rats into stores when they aren't supposed to. It is for the safety of the handler and dog.

Some in the group are Pyrenean [France], Maremma [Italian], Anatolian etc. They are ancient breeds developed along the Silk road to guard stock against predators such as wolves and bears.

Service dogs and Search-and-Rescue dogs are trained not to be playful while on the job. To that end, you may sometimes see a service dog wearing a harness that says "Do Not Pet." I've helped train SAR dogs by "getting lost." If they're given something I've worn, they can sniff out my trail and find me miles away in the woods or mountains. They seem to understand that they have an important job. That's really sweet that Samson can play with Cleo. It makes sense. Playing with a kitten doesn't interfere with one's job. And giving Cleo a ride is both worlds in one! :-)
That's simply not true. I'd almost say it's the opposite but not all dogs are the same. Service dogs and other working dogs are dogs clearly need a separation from work and fun time. A service dog getting playful while crossing a busy road is a hazard for the handler and itself. A service dog who can't stop working (especially difficult for seizure alert dogs who have to work during night time) can suffer from exhaustion and burnout. Some people with diabetes give their dog to their family for a weekend every few weeks, so the dog can fully relax. The "Do not Pet" sign doesn't mean that the service dog doesn't play, it just means that it's really hard for service dogs - who have to be very sociable towards anything and anyone they encounter - to stay in service mode when random people can't keep their hands on themselves. When my service dog is on free time, he's super playful and rather wild (which is really fun to watch when we meet with the service dog school and all their other dogs). Being well behaved in every supermarket and public transport means a lot of obedience and staying alert. It's important to have time where his mind can wander and he can be a pet. A lot of working dogs are especially playful because their reward for doing their job is playtime.

You may think that because you don’t have your dog wear them for whatever reason , but most , in fact, do! My dog is a cat person. After living with my aunt and him interacting with my cousin's dogs, he was basically sick of them, but prefered my cat when i found him as a kitten. My dog raised that kitten.

If a service dog isn't enjoying its job, it should be washed (retired) Though my boy gets all the playtime he needs, he is still medical equipment and not a pet.
Also, service dogs are trained to not have any reaction to other dogs due to people bringing their yappy rats into stores when they aren't supposed to. It is for the safety of the handler and dog.

Samson's an introverted dog. Getting him a cat friend was the right thing to do.
He looks like a LGD [livestock guardian] dog or cross. They are usually reserved and watch in a situation like a dog park. They bond very strongly with what ever they look after. In this case a kitten. They are used to mind free range chickens, and other stock. Even a Penguin colony. They are ancient breeds. Some in the group are Pyrenean [France], Maremma [Italian], Anatolian etc. They are ancient breeds developed along the Silk road to guard stock against predators such as wolves and bears.
@Gorgeous George - love shepherds and was advised to never think of a Malinois when we get a dog. They are beautiful, but yes, their prey drive ill kick in. Happened to a woman I know - cat walked past dog and SNAP!.
@Gorgeous George - my spouse has been with his company for 36 years - started ground up. He's taking retirement and we're planning on rescuing a dog. My sister rescued a King Shepherd - _big_ with longer hair, and they get along great with their cats, and cats in general.
They're high energy and love to be out, and so do I. Purr-fect match.

Service dogs and Search-and-Rescue dogs are trained not to be playful while on the job. To that end, you may sometimes see a service dog wearing a harness that says "Do Not Pet." I've helped train SAR dogs by "getting lost." If they're given something I've worn, they can sniff out my trail and find me miles away in the woods or mountains. They seem to understand that they have an important job. That's really sweet that Samson can play with Cleo. It makes sense. Playing with a kitten doesn't interfere with one's job. And giving Cleo a ride is both worlds in one! :-)
That's simply not true. I'd almost say it's the opposite but not all dogs are the same.
Service dogs and other working dogs are dogs clearly need a separation from work and fun time. A service dog getting playful while crossing a busy road is a hazard for the handler and itself. A service dog who can't stop working (especially difficult for seizure alert dogs who have to work during night time) can suffer from exhaustion and burnout. Some people with diabetes give their dog to their family for a weekend every few weeks, so the dog can fully relax.
The "Do not Pet" sign doesn't mean that the service dog doesn't play, it just means that it's really hard for service dogs - who have to be very sociable towards anything and anyone they encounter - to stay in service mode when random people can't keep their hands on themselves.
When my service dog is on free time, he's super playful and rather wild (which is really fun to watch when we meet with the service dog school and all their other dogs). Being well behaved in every supermarket and public transport means a lot of obedience and staying alert. It's important to have time where his mind can wander and he can be a pet.
A lot of working dogs are especially playful because their reward for doing their job is playtime.

For someone who has had 5 service dogs, it’s surprising that you think this to be true.. Because it is not. You may think that because you don’t have your dog wear them for whatever reason , but most , in fact, do! Now Emotional support animals may not..(as they shouldn’t I don’t believe.. not certain about that though..).

I had a rescue dog once, she was scared of other dogs most of her life. Then I got 4 new pets that she got along with and absolutely loved, rats! She'd be gentle with them, watch them and even let them on her back like this video!🥰

Service dogs are trained to NOT interact with other dogs while they are working. The cat was something he could engage with and not break the rules.
Essentially, Cleo is Samson's service cat.
