FF2 given this same makeover would be so cool. I remember being so frustrated trying to fight like 5 mobs at once which all have overpowered abilities which were much harder than the boss encounters. the disparity between the bosses being very smooth and felt skill based to the trash encounters in the dungeons just feeling like a mess
So close to the big 100K Oni! Anyhow, I'm happy to see you covering this one. It's one of the more interesting games I've played in the last few years. Originally skeptical of its premise, I found its design and story really interesting. I'm not sure if it works as a true "prequel", but it is interesting enough that I find myself wanting more. I would love to see FF1 remade based on this. Great video as always!
I'm sure I'm not alone thinking this was going to be a grimdark, edgy Garland origin story. No one expected a multidimensional tale touching the FF universe all wrapped up into an antihero journey. Such a wild ride and I love the unapologetic attitude as it doesn't take itself too seriously. I had a lot of fun with the game and recommend it to as many people will listen
Well since the Emperor has already been done, Jack's story came to a close, Exdeath and Cloud of Darkness are literally forces of nature, Xande isn't all that interesting, Kefka's descent into madness was already shown and Sephiroth's origin has already been explored via Ever Crisis and Crisis Core, I think it would make sense for Golbez or Kuja to be the next in line, or Ultimecia. I think Golbez could be interesting if they detail his initial encounter with Zemus, or Kuja's story taking place before Zidane was hatched, Ultimecia I think would be the most interesting bc we would get to see her timeline, how she came to power, and how she's able to throw her consciousness through time. I imagine an Ultimecia game would be heavily magic focused. Then there's the likes of Seymour, Jecht, Gabranth, Vayne, Caius and Ardyn. We've already seen and played through Ardyn's origin, Caius' origin is explained through cutscenes, Vayne could be interesting but I would rather see Gabranth during his time as a soldier in his homeland fighting alongside Basch, Seymour and Jecht's journies feel too FFX-0-ish and I don't think either would add to the Spira games in any meaningful way. But that's just my opinion
Golbez's origin was already shown an explained in a remake of the game, he was a Lunarian originally named Theodore who lived on the planet of earth alongside his mother an father his father being killed by hateful prejudice an his mother dying from illness. this absence of love made him feel a strong hatred toward earth an Zemus took full advantage of it an molded him into his emissary of darkness. theodore now proclaimed as the dark wizard Golbez then abandoned his infant brother outside of Baron where he was discovered by the king who adopted him an gave him the name Cecil.
I hope you’ll do a recap of World of Final Fantasy soon. Both that game and SoP really do open up things and have such interesting stories. They also sound like they have strong ties with Dissidia. This one being more direct in the reference than WoFF. But the main characters in WoFF so far play an interesting role in the mobile Dissidia App Game’s story
I love how they gave Summoners in XIV this ascended form of Bahamut as our level 100 ability and everyone was upset. Honestly an awesome story that puts the "villains" of FF1 into new light as dark antiheroes.

Weirdly the stuff after the release of the main game makes me think more and more of Mobius FF. I don't know if you plan to cover that ever, but it had some pretty high concept story ideas like what they did here. (If with a much different vibe.)
Mobius sounds like a special project... I would like to cover it, but would need to take a closer look at how it's structured for its story. Truth be told, a lot of people miss out of the mobile games' stories. Do you think Mobius is worth a recap?
The biggest issue with a Mobius Recap is that the story was never finished. I don't know how you'd handle something like that. It might just be something you'd want to look into even for just your own interest. It's been a long while since I played and it's tough to find stuff on it now, but it starts with these weird concepts like, your character is just named Wol. As if the acronym of Warrior of Light was just a word. And the whole time you have the Princess urging you on, but ... something is OFF. And eventually Garland just kind of hangs out with you on your journey a bit, from what I remember, cautioning that things aren't right. That's the part that reminded me so much of Strangers. That the story or at least the archetypes are all there, but something is off.
i am glad this comment was brought up there is implications in mobius that suggest that "jack" could be related to a certain Warrior(Garland the Heretic) who disappeared from the lufenian built playground specifically designed for creating warriors of light lol though i assume the place was dumped and abandoned much like the chaos dimension in SoP due to its overseer "Vox" going rogue an mysteriously disappearing lmao.
So just so i understand the context of the game.......This is supposed to be a semi-prequel/ recontextualization of the first Final Fantasy game? the 'Alter' route that changes how you look at the main title?
There are some who say this kinda happens with ff14. They have had crossovers and the stories from fft ff15 and others kinda match up. Even the neir one is very good.
@@adrianmartinez9406True,14 has a couple of cases where it connects in pseudo-canon way, but nearly all of their references and renditions of past game characters and locations are just inspirations. Dissidia and FF4TAY both did the canon connected universe years and in greater depth back in 2008, before 14 ... so seeing something continue that lore like SOP is exciting
This game does have the Wicked effect. Since the WoLs didn’t even have names much less characters, I suddenly care far more about Garland and the Fiends. It doesn’t help the situation they decided to make Tiamat so hot.
One of my favorite things about Jack is how he cut the bullshit to go straight to the facts and later on as he gained the power of Chaos, the asshole is all about babbling his opponents' ears off (see him in all dissidia games!) 😂
I mean Dissidia Garland is more like a phantom of the past, like an Echo of the FF1 Garland (aka a fake Garland who was a knight ok Cornelia and turned bad) So he was born on a cycle and lives for cycles being very talkative and full of himself lol
i got to about 4 hours in, figuring this was a crappy ff1 action game. Hell was i wrong. Thanks for the recap. im actually going to replay this fully this time!
I'm going to assume that this Bahamut is a Reincarnation of the Bahamut from 15 after the dawn of the future DLC that got canceled my only evidence that this Bahamut is that Bahamut is the fact that both have wings made of swords
I really like this game but hiding story behind DLC and most of all difficulty setting was a mistake. I hope they make a fully fledged mainline final fantasy game with these fighting mechanics someday. FF16 is kind of similar but the spectrum of the gameplay is very narrow in comparison to this.
To be honest a 99% of the story is on the main game. The DLCs were just some kind of sequel. Main game ends with the Warriors of light coming (aka the first FF) The DLC are just showing the training process of those warriors because the first time was a failure.
Wait hold up let me get this straight: this game explains the entirety of the Final Fantasy multiverse and that each game taking place in its own timeline/continuity/universe is just yet another world being used as an experiment by the Lufenians right? Then by destroying Nil and The Emperor and finally being struck down Jack ended that cycle of worlds being destroyed/reset etc so what does that mean for the future of the franchise? If Jack became the God of Discord but then was killed by a Warrior of Light does that then mean that just Cornelia is free now or does that mean the entire multiverse is free of the primordial struggle between Light and Dark since Jack broke that cycle? Cause if its the entire multiverse is free of that, how can we have any new games at all that aren't basically just a repeat of FF XVI like a struggle between the elementals and each nation wielding one of them? There's so many questions rather than answers here, or do we just solve it all by placing Stranger of Paradise at the very end of the grander Final Fantasy timeline if you can call it that?
Very nice video ! There is just few things i still dont get which are jack and ff 1/dissidia garland the same person ? What are the differences between ff 1 and ff sop regarding the wol garland chaos etc ?
Apparently they are the same person and Jack started a time loop after receiving the power of Chaos and stealing that crystal thing from the Lufenians. His "dark knight" appearance might have been what Chaos intended to look like all along (Neon posing as Chaos). I guess it was fate that a man named Garland would come along to take the reins of Chaos (it isn't unusual to have that sort of prophecy kind of thing in fantasy games). If i recal correctly in SoP the loops were restarted by the lufenians and the people involved were never supposed to retain their memories. However, the princess and Jack along with hia friends did and Astos went against his programming to never forget so it's entirely possible that at some point the princess was misremembering when was the last time she met a knight named Garland 🤔 I love these time loops tbh, it reminds me of how fun it is to play with The Legend of Zelda timelines and loops
They are the same and they are not at the same time. Dissidia Garland says in opera Omnia that Jack is from a different cycle than him. Astos says that after world resets chaos can make Phantoms of previous cycles. Dissidia Garland is the FF 1 Garland a knight of Cornelia who went Crazy and kidnapped Sarah. This Garland is originated from Cornelia, so it's fair to assume is a "phantom" Of Jack after he made his own Cycle (aka Stranger of Paradise ending) Dissidia Garland is the original FF Garland after the end of the game (aka after they defeat chaos) So basically after Jack cycle is broken and the world released by the warriors of light, Jack likely stays in Cornelia with Sarah, while this phantom of his ends on Dissidia. Meanwhile the Warrior of light would be the Dissidia Cid clone who after Dissidia ends into World A (making Dissidia the begging of WOL and the end of Garland ironically)
Thank you for asking.
Not gonna lie, a lack of an ending is a bit problematic, but I still check it out in case I can do something with it. Thanks for the heads up@@Kasaaz
Yeah, it's one of those tragedies of doing things as a live service / mobile game. But as a weird Final Fantasy artifact, it is pretty fascinating.
i am glad this comment was brought up there is implications in mobius that suggest that "jack" could be related to a certain Warrior(Garland the Heretic) who disappeared from the lufenian built playground specifically designed for creating warriors of light lol though i assume the place was dumped and abandoned much like the chaos dimension in SoP due to its overseer "Vox" going rogue an mysteriously disappearing lmao.
So just so i understand the context of the game.......This is supposed to be a semi-prequel/ recontextualization of the first Final Fantasy game? the 'Alter' route that changes how you look at the main title?
Basically what Crisis Core is to FF7, Stranger of Paradise is to FF1, but that's kind of a big 'Maybe'.
@@TheCyclicGamer is that a "pretty much"? Didn't play any side titles at all but iirc crisis core was a prequel with Zach no?
This needs to be the official canon of FF and needs to be sequels that gradually combine all the FF series together.
Would love to see it. Imagine SOP-treatment for the side stuff like FF Adventure... would be way more interesting than a Pixel Remaster
Dude
There are some who say this kinda happens with ff14. They have had crossovers and the stories from fft ff15 and others kinda match up. Even the neir one is very good.
@@adrianmartinez9406True,14 has a couple of cases where it connects in pseudo-canon way, but nearly all of their references and renditions of past game characters and locations are just inspirations. Dissidia and FF4TAY both did the canon connected universe years and in greater depth back in 2008, before 14 ... so seeing something continue that lore like SOP is exciting
I'd rather this just stay as a potential prequel to the Dissidia games if anything
Chaos? Did you just say Chaos? Chaos! Chaaaaoooooos! CHAAAAAAAOOOOOOS!!!
I mean Dissidia Garland is more like a phantom of the past, like an Echo of the FF1 Garland (aka a fake Garland who was a knight ok Cornelia and turned bad)
So he was born on a cycle and lives for cycles being very talkative and full of himself lol
Loved this game would love to see ff2-6 be given a dark fantasy reimagining and continue where this game left off 😁
FF6 should be a prequel where you play as Kefka. After each Magick infusion he moves more and more towards the Crazy Kefka we know.
I would really love to see the world of FFVI revisited in full glorious 3D.
Please recap Nights Of Azure.
This is my BIG question? what monsters did the strangers have to kill to gain access to the choas shrine
i got to about 4 hours in, figuring this was a crappy ff1 action game. Hell was i wrong. Thanks for the recap. im actually going to replay this fully this time!
Team Ninja is never good in telling a story but the combat games made from them are really fun.
I'm going to assume that this Bahamut is a Reincarnation of the Bahamut from 15 after the dawn of the future DLC that got canceled my only evidence that this Bahamut is that Bahamut is the fact that both have wings made of swords
So dissidia is canon to this game ? Thats awesome
Main game ends with the Warriors of light coming (aka the first FF)
The DLC are just showing the training process of those warriors because the first time was a failure.
This game was a trip to play and boy was it fuckin great
Wait hold up let me get this straight: this game explains the entirety of the Final Fantasy multiverse and that each game taking place in its own timeline/continuity/universe is just yet another world being used as an experiment by the Lufenians right?
I SO would have loved it if you would have had a CHAOS counter. lolol
However, the princess and Jack along with hia friends did and Astos went against his programming to never forget so it's entirely possible that at some point the princess was misremembering when was the last time she met a knight named Garland 🤔
I love these time loops tbh, it reminds me of how fun it is to play with The Legend of Zelda timelines and loops
This Garland is originated from Cornelia, so it's fair to assume is a "phantom" Of Jack after he made his own Cycle (aka Stranger of Paradise ending)
Dissidia Garland is the original FF Garland after the end of the game (aka after they defeat chaos)
So basically after Jack cycle is broken and the world released by the warriors of light, Jack likely stays in Cornelia with Sarah, while this phantom of his ends on Dissidia.
Meanwhile the Warrior of light would be the Dissidia Cid clone who after Dissidia ends into World A (making Dissidia the begging of WOL and the end of Garland ironically)
HE SAID IT HE SAID IT!!!!
A recap of how many times chaos will be said in 27 mins lol.
Where have you been? It's been forever since I've you stream or anything.
Thank you for asking. I took a 6 month hiatus for personal reasons earlier in the year... got better, came back and now for the past 2 months I have been trying to get back on YT's good side as it doesn't recommend my stuff anymore (check it out the new stuff and leave a like to help the algorithm!). I won't be streaming really anymore, but I am back on the recap content grind.
I'm gonna watch it later 😂
I was literally just playing it lmao
Now i understand now,why emperor are so desperate in final fantasy 2 for forgiveness because he wants to back his true powers to seek revenge from jack garland.
So Oni Black Mage, when are you going to do a recap video of Final Fantasy 16?
When all of the story DLC is out
I hate how they waited to come out with the dlc months later instead of releasing it right when it came out. You basically miss the whole ending if you didn't buy the dlc. But to pay to get an ending of a story just sounds wrong to me.
the 4 warriors of darkness
Great!
Makes sense
