  • We compare how much it would cost to run HPS/MH vs an LED of the same grow area. We found that it would take 1.5 to 2 years before the LED is cost efficient.

a comparison update with the newest leds would be interesting, the old ones were at 120-140lm/w or so and the newest ones 170-220lm/w if I remember correctly

You need to factor in the reduced yield from using LED rather than HID when in flower.

for veg it seems they do have their place but a t5 is cheaper and bulbs are real cheap and would love to see you do the math and compare the cost of a good led (net the cheap stuff) to a t5

Hey thanks for this video, because I can prove I don't need to buy a LED light to use veg for 2.5months from week 1 of February to mid April, or when there's a minimum of 14hours of sun from my outdoor plants and 🤞the weather is nice, I live in Ontario Canada where it's colder. My plan is to get my plants nice and big roots and happy so I can put them outside and by the end of the summer they'll be MONSTER'S.....👌

i have leds and I love the spectrum the can have the only thing I do not like is if your plant or plants are taller then 3 ft then they will have lots of trouble reaching any lower stuff, sure you can lolipop your plants to where you have 3 ft of stock but only two ft of plant matter will be able to use the light. i use them to enhance the light spectrum but their ft print is so small they cant do any of the yields that a HID system can yet unless you have a room full of leds and then the cost is sky high

    360 W LED doesn't replace a 600 W HID

in the 9 years since this was made , you still say led's NEVER need to be changed ?

You can get a far better LED light then that Chinese junker. You get that thing on Alibaba for 150 dollars now.

ive yet to see a decent comparison. you cant use same conditions with leds than with hid. leds need to be closer and CAN be closer due to allmost 0 heat. HID cant do that. another. if you have 300W led vs 600W hid. how is that good comparison ? use 2x 300W leds to get to the same level OR in the end remind yourself that it used half the watts (couldve used 2). not every LED is good for flowering or not every led is good for vegging. depends on the leds spectrums ofc. theres just so much mistakes in these "comparisons"

+Veijo Takku You compare lights of similar lumen output, not wattage. Assuming both fixtures put out equal light, you would obviously shoot for less wattage consumption.
Another thing not mentioned is the fact that you will also need less ventilation when using LED, thus more savings in electricity.
