Graham, I have been watching this channel for about 4 years and I cannot thank you enough for teaching me all of the fundamentals I skipped over as a young adult. Your guidance took my recordings from "Meh, it's ok." to "WOW, I can't believe I can do that!" I had been out of the game for a long time because of my living conditions and work schedule and honestly almost gave up on what I love the most then one day I clicked on a video that changed my life forever. Here's to you and another 500,000 subscribers friend!
Congrats Graham! Everything I know about recording and mixing is from watching your videos. A few years ago I was doing my first ever recording and now I have my own channel where I am sharing my own music. Thank you for everything!
Congrats! Yay! I remember finding your channel when I didn’t know the difference between mixing and mastering! I’ve followed your radio ready guide for every single one of my songs on my debut album. And I’ve been played on the radio a couple of times... I still have a lot to learn and am looking forward to new projects. Thanks for your help!
Very cool Graham, congrats on 500k! You've helped me out a lot over the years and I don't think I've ever commented, so thank you! I'm not so much into recording as a producer, recording engineer etc. but rather an aspiring musician. Therefore I've never gone beyond GarageBand as I know I have not and may never reach the full potential of what it can do but its a work in progress. Still learning and have a long way to go, so I look forward to seeing what else you can share with the world. Thank you again!
Congrats Graham!! I discovered your channel while recovering from a heart procedure, you can imagine how bored I was that I had to take on a new hobby, so you got me into the world of recording and mixing after being a weekend warrior for quite a long time. Thank you mate you deserve every success that comes to you.
Thank you so much for being awesome graham. You are so right about the fundamentals, nothing gets you better at anything then the fundamentals! You should consider starting a Patreon so that we can repay you for the priceless lessons you gift us threw your chanel.
Congratulations Graham, the content you provide is way more valuable than the subscribers count. Keep sharing the knowledge with musicians like me... Thanks for your tips 👍
Very wise, encouraging words. Nice to hear that others insist on lyrics being learned, not sung off a sheet of paper or a phone. I berate my friends that do this live and I tell them that exact same reason, have done for years. 😁 Keep up the great work. X
Grahm, I absolutely adore you with all my heart! You have helped me so much, and continue to do so! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Congratulations on 500K! 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
This is the most productive and useful channel in the world. I’m a beginner u really don’t know how much u helped me!! U DESERVE MUCH MORE THAN 500K!! CONGRATULATIONS GRAHAM!!!! ❤️❤️❤️💕👍🙏👑
I think you are an awesome person, I totally feed off of your vibe! You have taught me most of what I know in the 3 years I have been on this journey. Thank you for everything you have done for us. You are the best teacher I have ever had. The way you explain things was the easiest way for me to understand, I learn everything the hard way most of the time. Thank you again friend!
That whole sculpture analogy just made my day. This is how i first explained these concepts to myself so I can understand them better. Congrats on the 500k subs... keep up the good work.
Been working with recording and mixing for 20 years. I've seen countless tips and tricks videos. I've never seen a "fundamental tips" video that hasn't improved me to this day. This video is no different. Great video and great job climbing to 500,000 subscribers.
Dude. 500K Graham!! So freakin awesome bro! So proud of you. Your content is amazing and you've inspired me and taught me in so many ways. You deserve every single one of these 500 and hopefully many many more!
Hey Graham, congratulations on 10 great years of sharing your wisdom! Personally it has helped me by leaps and bounds and I can't thank you enough! BTW, love the line "Go ugly early"! This definitely pertains to my original songs that I waited so long to release and still work on today... ugh, got to move on! Thank you again Graham!
Amazing tips....that border on philosophical-adroitness as much as practical production ones....you understand the "pitfalls and bottlenecks" very well! Sometimes, we, (in the mix so to speak) need to hear this "type" of advice in the same way reference mixes reset us and add "hope" to our true passion for success in this amazing business!
Hey Graham, congrats on hitting 500k! I think it was built because you genuinely care about the results! I also really like that you're not showing your mic so we can see your full face and emotion without distraction of gear - what mic are you using?
Congratulations on obtaining 500K subscribers, well done. My mixing has become a lot better by subscribing to your videos and your courses. I now have paying clients who enjoy my work as a result of your assistance.
The $350 studio video... That's how I found you, I watched it thinking "I'm not gonna buy that, I have to pay for someone at a professional studio because I don't know what to do with that gear anyways A couple of months ago my Scarlett Solo came in with my Behringer C1 mic and my headphones, I just got FL Studio and I'm working on my first song near completion I hope to release it sometime before November, guided entirely by How to record a song from scratch and how to mix a song from scratch miniseries. Thanks Graham
with all this quality content and over 10 years of dedication to this channel honestly it should be 5 million, but nobody wants to LEARN they just expect the results to come.. thank you graham!
so you just made my day.. as i am living in Germany and studio audio engeeniering at Audiocation i did my first ever mix last month..they got back with feedback and i got like 65 70 percent good feedback..i was soooo bumed. i was like but it sounded good..as you said every start is hard....thanks man..love you and your work!!!!!!!!!! congratz on 500k!
Hello Graham, my guitar instructor felt I was ready to start recording my own songs. He has suggested that I purchase the home recording studio, Focusrite Audio Interface. After I get the home studio set up, I wish to join your Recording Revolution VIP group. For now, I am viewing your videos. They are helping a beginner like me. Thank you.
I've sucked for about 10 years, and really I still kinda suck, but here are my tips. 1. (I can't stress this enough) Use a reference. Honestly it will change your life. I went too long without referencing good mixes, or any mixes at all for that matter. 2. Find a DAW and stick with it. 3. Watch a ton of RUclips tutorials. 4. Download stems/ sign up for a service that gives you stems and lessons like Pro Mix Academy or whatever you like so you can actually work on something that isn't your own. 5. Gear doesn't matter (to a certain extent) So I've been making music for more than half of my life, I'm only 25. I didn't go to college nor do I have any real training in mixing. I do write, record, mix, and release my own music and have been doing so for a long time. Up until less than a year ago I've been quite bad, but references and Pro Mix Academy took me to the next level. I re-mixed my music of the past couple years, sent a song over to Glen Fricker and got him to listen on his Merciless Metal Mixes stream and he said not to change a thing. I recorded my friend's band's EP (except the drums), mixed it and mastered it. They wanted it mastered elsewhere so they send 'em to a studio, and the guy says "Who mixed this? It already sounds good". They get the masters back, and they sound very close to mine. Little do they know, I'm in an untreated bedroom with a pair of monitors you can get for like $200, some $100 interface, an SM57, and an Audio Technica AT-2020 (both mics are like $100), and it's all thrown into Mixcraft. If I can get results in my situation, you absolutely can too.
I ruined some good vocals...man..when i mute the beat...they dont seem like they're clipping..but when i turn on the beat...i can feel some kind of clipping in the vocals..and the problem is not the beat. And the waveform is NOT that big so you can say is from that. I donno what to do to make them sound good. I tried Izotope RX6 hoping that i can fix these issues...but nothing worked. Not even the eq. I think it may be from the mic...or because i have a low voice in that particular recording. Or maybe i need a better mic cable. I need some advice!
BMH i mix in Cubase 5...but the vocals were recorded in Audacity. I amplified them than i put on a limiter to make the waveform look the same (i did all this process in Audacity) and when i moved to Cubase i used that vocals. I think was my mistake to amplify them too much. Or maybe i need to change the mic. I have a lot of thoughts about that.
@@Alex_Florin_Prod yeah I love cubase record in there with your mic signal level about 65-70%.. I think that's your best bet.. ima permanent sub u bro.. I had to sell my set up but I'm sorting out a computer and cubase pro 10 next year.. hopefully we could work together cos I'm really interested in the mixing and mastering side of it. I've been researching it for a while now so know most of the tips
Congratulations, and thank you for making this stuff accessible even to people who, like me, would prefer be doing something else... Btw, any updates on Graham the musician? It's been a while since you published something... Maybe too busy on the other side of the mixer? Anyways, thank you for your work...

In 24 bit record at -18 dbfs RMS. And don't peak beyond -6 dbfs peak.
Oh Graham...You forgot about PZM microphones (pressure zone microphone). Same frequency response 20 - 20 000hz 360 degrees around the mike.
Always start a mix in mono. When you have you mix great in mono (effects, compression) then start panning.

I am not saying you shouldn't do it. But you should be trying to get your "own" sound and not copying the latest radio hit. That reference track will have the cloud pulled down by mastering engineer. They hate the cloud (90 -250hz).
