- April is here and we were honored to be joined by South Platte legend Pat Dorsey for this month's edition of Five Flies for April 2018. Pat has been fishing and guiding the South Platte for quite some time and he's designed a variety of super effective flies for our home drainage.
Pat and Trouts' own Tanner Smith hit Deckers and it's no surprise that Pat's flies did the trick. Mr. Dorsey details when and how to fish each of his five flies in the month of April on the South Platte. Midges and Blue-Winged Olives alike, fish are active and feeding...what more can you ask for?
We look forward to seeing you in the shop and on the water this month!

Beautiful Fishing Fisherman
I met Pat Dorsey once many years ago when he was a “starving” fly tier and just becoming known in Colorado. That was along time ago (early 90s ?).
Also, do you (or Pat) fish these flies on droppers or tied in-line (dropper attached to the hook bend of the fly above it, or to the eye of the fly above it)? Once again, many thanks for the great video.
We were fishing them in-line...not completely sure about Pat's rigging style.
Thanks for the prompt replies.
Very informative video. Thank you. Could you tell me your (or Pat's) preferred sizes for the flies discussed in the video?
For the midges, we (and Pat) likes to fish these from size 20 - size 24. For the Baetis patterns, size 18 - 22.
Who makes those Mercury beads?
