I think my favorite part about Butters as a character is his emotional resiliency. His parents are horribly abusive, his grandmother bullies him relentlessly and his friends treat him like an option. But despite all this, he remains cheerful and ready to bounce back from whatever happens. Just don’t take him to a tap dancing conference.

I love how every time Butters makes a speech that pretty much burns down someone's entire life view, he'll follow it up by casually saying bye...
Butters: Well, thanks for offerin' to let me in your clique, guys, uh but, to be honest, I'd rather be a cryin' little pussy than a ***** Goth kid. Well see ya, Stan.
Also Butters: You know, I-I've been gettin' lots of advice how to deal with you. Stand up to you, tell on you... But I kind of realize there's just people like you out there. All over the place. When you're a kid, things seem like they're gonna last forever. But they're not. Life changes. Why you won't always be around. Someday you're gonna die. Someday pretty soon. And when you're layin' in that hospital bed, with tubes up your nose, and that little pan under your butt to pee in, well I'll come visit ya. I'll come just to show you that, that I'm still alive and I'm still happy. And you'll die. Bein' nothin' but you. Night Grandma.

Raisins is legit one of my all time favorite South Park episodes. Anytime I suffer from heartbreak, I watch this episode to remind me that everything will be okay since the sadness won't be permanent. Yes, the pain hurts, but it's still a fresh start, so take the bad with the good. It legit cheered me up when my closest special someone called off the relationship a few months ago and I feel the pain Stan (and eventually Butters) feels.
Plus, the episode can still be funny while portraying the message in a very well done manner and I think that shows how strong the writing of this show can be.

I've just experienced my first heartbreak. We were together for nearly 7 years, from our early teens to young adulthood. It came completely out of the blue and I really thought everything was okay till it happened. He just didn't feel the same way about me anymore, there was no reason or catalyst. He still cares about me deeply, likes me as a person, just doesn't love me. Meanwhile I still deeply love and adore him. He didn't do anything wrong apart from the way he broke up with me. He didn't communicate his feelings to me, kept saying 'love you too' to my messages up until the day he left me. It really was like he died having loved me only to leave a note saying he didn't. We spoke it through a few days later and he didn't mean to hurt me, reality is hes always struggled with communication. Its been less than a week and honestly it's killing me from the inside. I miss everything about him, I miss talking to him everyday about anything, I miss him so much.
I know this feeling will go at some point and maybe one day I'll be able to talk to him again as friends but life really hurts right now. It feels stupid to say but I agree with butters. The reality is there's too much in my life I love and even though he was the one I loved the most, I can't give up because I lost him. I'll always love the time we had together and I know he will too, we grew up together and we're seared onto each others hearts, even if we're not a couple anymore. At some point I'll be okay again, but for now I need this beautiful sadness.

I think it was Trey Parker who was going through a divorce at some point so I assumed it was kind of like Stan (Trey) and Kyle (Matt) just telling us how they dealt with the subject matter. I think the whole message butters gives is the greatest touch on an episode of television period man. Great jokes and a beautiful message

It's so crazy that the most abused and beaten down character in South Park is arguably one of the most mentally healthy.

No Butters, you don't sound stupid. You sound like my favorite character in south park, from this moment to butter's bottom B; he truly is amazing.

11:58 "dealing with it the right way", stan proceed to call wendy a bitch n flip off tolken, i was like LOL. But then after thinking abit about it, its true, i had my heat broken after my "friends" convinced my ex girlfriend to dump me n bully the shit out of me. I was depressed for awhile, then i realise the best way is to let go, so i just found new friends n start fresh, ive now got very supportive friends, and a beautiful wife. The funny thing is..... i found out my "friends", two of them is now in jailcuz of drug charges, one of them is bankcrupted, another one is now working in my company, but the difference is im in executive leadership role, n hes an entry level office admin. As for my ex, she got married n seems to be doing fine, we r just in different world, we wont work out, but we bumped into each other a while back, we recognise each othe n gave each other a smile and a nod, n we went off on our way. I thought it would have been awkward, but it was actually beautiful, it gave me a true closure because im very over her

im aware that im terribly late to this video, but i wanted to mention that this is one of the reasons butters is my favorite character. despite everything thats happened to him, on a few occasions he really seems to be good at dealing with emotions, even if they arent his own. hes so sweet to literally everyone.
