I rented at Wilson from Bike N Bean years ago in the slop, took it down Whistler DH. Came back in after one run and said, 'Ill take it'. Was on a Demo 7ii at the time. For sure, DH bikes at Bike Parks with elevation are a game changer.
DH no question for Whistler Bike Park. I say this as a dude with a couple hundred days in the park. Really skilled guys can go faster on trail/enduro bikes on most trails but it beats up your body and the bike so much faster. For up to advanced skilled riders, they will go faster on the double black tech and black/double black jump lines on DH bikes... Especially Garbo zone tech, you need serious skills to ride it fast on a trail bike.
I think it also depends a lot on your background. I have ridden BMX all my life. I rode Whistler a long time ago on a rigid bike and the fact I had 26 inch wheels instead of 20 inch wheels is what made me able to ride better on a mountain bike. So for someone like myself I think my current Full Suspension mountain bike with 140mm up front and 130mm in rear would be luxury on the trails at Whistler! A downhill bike with a super slack head angle would probably annoy the crap out of me!
@@moandhannahtravel I have a Giro Switchblade that is DH certified and you can remove the chin guard for trail riding. I did buy it after knocking a tooth out on a big get off, so I was late to the scene. But hey the rest of my teeth are happy I have a full face helmet now. They are a stack of coins at $250.00 a pop, but I found mine on Amazon for $180.00
Great riding! I had the same giggly reaction when riding my first FS trail bike (coming from a cheap HT), can't wait to try a proper DH beast. One suggestion though-Mo should consider getting a FF helmet and some pads, I get a bit uneasy watching you shred whistler with no protection.
You don't need a DH bike, But you want one! I have a Giant reign and a Glory. Id rather ride the gnarly steeps Like ride don't slide, Original Sin, Goats gully on the Dh rig. Sure they may seem slow to steer and don't really pedal but you body will thank you the next day. They are just more forgiving and plush when you need it. I feel like if your an aggressive rider and want to progress get a full Dh rig.
I rented a DH bike at Windrock. It really helped to enjoy the shear gnar...ness? of that park better. Having not been to whistler I can't say...I suppose all parks are just a little different but if I had to choose a bike for park use(and if I rode park a whole LOT) I'd lean more toward full DH...I think? LOL!!
As a guy who's never ridden a true DH bike (though always had at least 170mm) I have always wondered this question of how different really is it. Now I know.
I rode my enduro there and had no problem at. Could not take the huge lines but made it more challenging. But I have ridden dh bikes forever. But with todays suspension you can ride a enduro style bike at dh parks no,problem.
From the second you started it sounded from your enthusiasm that the dh bike was the ticket. Was a little surprised at your end results that you were on the fence on which to choose..Great video by the way..
when I went to whistler I rented a downhill bike and I was my rest time on a downhill bike, I think I took some sloppy lines where as if I was in my enduro bike I would have ridden more carefully.
Think about how crazy you'd get if you rode a DH bike at whistler everyday thou lol. My trail bike handles the parks fine but my DH bike allows you to focus on the stuff you came to ride at speed. I like both for different reasons but I'll pretty much only ride my DH bike at the park or shuttle days so I'm stoked when I get to ride it lol. It's like the ferrari you take out every once in a while ;)
don’t know if you’ve checked them out yet but definitely try Crank It Up and A Line, those are the more popular flow trails up there and A Line has some technical sections near the end.
Great video,as always guys! I have downhill bike for Bikepark days so I wreck my trail bike and coz you just go flat out everywhere! They are so forgiving but after I come back from Morzine this year I’m selling both my bikes for a “do it all bike” A Whyte G170 YT Capra or Canyon Torque These bike are the best of both worlds! You can skip and Dick them around but they also have enough travel to stop you having your teeth rattled out of your head! Thanks for the great videos
Don't do it man! You'll regret it because it'll never be as good as you want downhill and it'll climb like a dog... I sold both mine and bought a 170mm uber enduro but in the end I just hated the feeling of compromise. An aggressive 130ish trail bike and full dh bike will almost always feel better unless you are regularly riding EWS level trails at pace.
A trail bike in WBP would probably fall apparatus after 10-12 days of riding ... they just won’t hold up after a while. The DH bike ramps up the fun factor. But if you’re gonna ride stuff outside the park then Trail bike the way to go .. heck, get a “enduro” bike with1 150-160 and you’re set
I think the best option for me is a do it all bike, enough travel to do it all, but if I would absolutely have to have a Dh bike it would be Nicolai G19 cus of the geometry, still shorter reach than their trail & enduro bikes, but that could be made custom anyway, or sizing up, so a downhill, climbing bike could be a reality, then I could put a dropper post, and usual trail riding gear setup. but it's overkill for what I currently ride. But so far I am Leaning Towards Nicolai Saturn 14 & G1 but the Knolly Fugitive is interesting, but I haven't looked at it much, forgot some of the specs and features.
DH bikes when riding bike parks with lifts for sure. It just maximizes the amount of fun you can get in a bike park. But other than that, trail bikes for me.
Honestly.,.... I wish I could buy a DH bike.... I just cannot justify it........ Mo, as you well know.... where I live.... there are many trails and dh lines that require a lot of climbing.... Plus Big Bear...Snow Summit you can smash it there with a trail bike, ENDURO bike!!
Sure downhill bike feels way easier when you go same speed as with trail bike. But its made to go to ludicrous speed and then its also not that soft anymore.
Do you need one? Nah, but who doesnt want a different bike for every occasion 😁. I used my enduro at Whister and it was great. Next time I'd like to try a DH bike 👍👍

Downhill bikes are great for downhill biking.
thank you sherlock
Really I never would have guessed. I downhill bikes were for flying in clouds
Mo: *acts like a 4 year old having fun on a dh bike*
Also Mo: I don't know which one I would choose
I said the same thing when I was 8 years old, and that was about 40 years ago... but back in the day, we called them "Freeride" instead of Enduro.

Trail bikes are great for all that climbing you don't have to do at the bike park.
YT is the Porsche of Bikes. German Engineering at it's best.
why not full face?....no brainer DH bike on lift access trail bike only when you need to climb
Got a crazy idea if we put 200mm fork and shock on enduro

That would be the dream!!!
Nice comparison, never tried a true DH rig. Not that much call for it here in the UK if you don't live near a bike park. Looks awesome though.
So much fun!!!
Nice job Mo. Im going to have to demo one @ Outerbike next week.
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 you’ll love it!
DH bikes are such beasts, I haven't gotten in tune with em yet in my limited 3 days experience in 1 year (rentals)
Trail bike at Whistler!! I'd throw my tricked out Fluid HT down some of those runs.

I mean this is fucking obvious right....
Was it a 27 or 29er?
WHAT IS THE FRAME SIZE
So did you wear a half shell or full face? And what would be safer? 🤷🏻♂️
You could compromise with a 160/170mm travel enduro. That’s what I have, and I have plenty of confidence, plus is still fun.

Yeah the dh was fun for sure!
i want have bike like yours but i am a poor man... can you give me a maybe bike like polygon dh or trek

Why is the quality only 330p?
Because you are too fast!!
watching video to early
Nope but it doesnt hurt Phill didn't need one lol rad video!

The manufactory is in Germany. So i think the real meaning for the downhill bike is the german word "Tu es". In englisch it's meaning "Do it"
put a mtn biker with really good skills on a DH bike.... like sweet buttah fun !
