Just because something old stopped being made doesn't mean it didn't stop being good.
Damn Josh, I shed a tear on that one. Fairwell iPod, I'll always remember my nano 3rd gen, which looked like a smoll classic. Took it to school and overseas for many years.
iPod was a product that definitely revolutionized the way we listen to music propelling it into the digital era. And while it still does have a niche market over 20 years later its better days are definitely behind it. Gone but certainly not forgotten.
i was so heartbroken and i cried when they announced this and i was pretty stoked and hopeful for new ipod models in the coming year from leaks but they scraped it. i bought a new 256 gb ipod touch space grey in honour of the ipod. i hope they support it for years to come. it truly is an end of a era, but i know they will support it through finder and older versions of itunes. I remember when i was 15 or 16, my mom told me she is going to buy my dad an ipod, the first one, i asked her "what's an ipod?" and she showed me, i played around with this thing not quite knowing how important this device would be for the future of apple, apple literally build itself back up with the ipod, the most succesfull product ever! I still have my ipod touch 5th gen today, and i will keep it. RIP ipod!
Brams you got really sentimental about it. You can still find those at the Vietnamese repair shops in Antwerpen and Brussels. i've got mine from 2007 . i don't know which generation it is. i got as a present back then . played with it twice and put it away. now this video made me look for it. its brand new , still 80gb.
Never even owned an iPod in my life (only thing I had close to it was a Toshiba clone of the shuffle) but the fact that Apple discontinued the device that sprung to other products like the iPhone is both amazing but also shows how Apple has developed so much over the past two decades.
Watching this on an iPod touch now. The latest 2019 model. iPod’s are awesome , but the era is over. I’m glad to have witnessed such a huge impactful product change the world.
I got a 4th generation iPod shuffle as a Christmas present from my uncle in 2011. I was 8 years old. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I had a speaker dock connected to the iPod and I loved pissing off my parents blaring Eminem. I got a 4th gen iPod touch for Christmas in 2012. I loved playing Candy Crush, Temple Run and Angry Birds. The glory days of my childhood.
Man, the absolutely CRAZY amount of money I'd spent on 3rd party docks for the various versions of iPod I've ever owned - JBL, Altec Lansing, Sharp, Yamaha, etc... oh my!
The iPod was such a big part of my childhood, I used one daily for about 7 years as my daily driver, and for another 2 after that as a backup device. Its definitely my favorite piece of Apple tech.
I actually just bought an iPod Touch..... not to flip!! The last iPod I have was the classic. It still functions, but the battery is dying. I just don't really like listening music using my phone, because there are constant interruptions. (i.e., phone calls, emails, text messages) For my dedicated music device, I can turn all that off and just listen to music.
I still have a few old iPods. 2nd gen iPod touch from 2008, 1st gen iPod touch from 2007, and the 5th gen iPod touch from 2005. All of which still work fine. So from what I hear, all instances of the iPod even the iPod touch are dead for good now.
One of the nice things about my flash modded 4th gen? Since all of my music is on it, I don't have to redownload it all onto this laptop while writing my paper.
Since Apple will not pivot the brand to audiophile-focused devices, it has become irrelevant. I don’t blame Apple for not pivoting the brand as it’s not really going to gain them anything, but it would’ve been the last chance for a true iPod legacy to continue. As it stands it’s been this half-dead status for the last 8 years since the Classic was gone.
@@chair5728 It would be very good for Apple users who are used to iOS and don't want to use Android that comes with the more expensive ones, nor the OS that comes with the cheaper ones.
Rest In Peace, to the IPod, my very first IPod, was in 2008, and it was the iPod Classic, and the iPod Classic was new in 2008 at that time too, my Brothers and Sisters.
While this is pretty sad news, I'm honestly surprised that the iPod lasted as long as it did. I'm really not sure why they revamped it in 2019. What would have been cool though is a cellular iPod Touch, but I'm sure that would definitely cannibalise sales of the iPhone.
iPod mini was my first, went from carrying a Walkman with a huge case of cds I had to burn myself.. oh the early 2000s.. to just having this wonderful little rectangle that had more than 10 times the songs. But RUclips and limewire killed my use of iTunes, and eventually the just moved onto streaming altogether, which IS SO MUCH BETTER I DONT MISS YOU HE OLD DAYS.
My first was a 5th gen. My second and last was a 1st gen iPod touch. Just found it again. Turns on. Looks like I last used it on January 3rd 2011 judging by the last email it shows. Fun memories. But music lasts forever.
I will continue to use my ipod touch, having a dedicated music player helps keep my phone battery during the day. I loved the novelty of listening to music on my phone but my phone battery died after 4 hours often. Also not having a phone call interrupt my music is nice, it's me that stops the music not someone ringing me.
I remember when my friend bought one of the first which was a lot of money. Everyone was amazed by it. I’ve had a lot of iPod’s, classic, nano, touch, shuffle all were so cool back in the day.
I wanted an iPod back in the day but by the time I could afford my own iPod, I got the iPhone 4. That became my iPod. Now I guess I'll never know what it was like to own an iPod. It is a sad day but we all knew it was coming at some point. That's how advancement of tech works. Apple made the product that would make the iPod obsolete before some other company does which would have been a disaster for Apple.
A Hi-FI iPod for audiophiles would be a very solid product. Competing with Fiio, Walkman and others. Ending its production feels like a missed opportunity, but it makes sense since iPod wasn´t even profitable the way it was (a very limited iPhone).
The only issue is that apple is now very much focused on mainstream products products like a hifi player are too niche and wouldn't make any meaningful ROI.
When I was about 5, my dad gave me his old iPod nano 5th gen in grey, and I listened to so much of "The story of the world" and played so much Vortex on it. Unfortunately, I lost it in a move, but I really want to get another one. I also got myself a 5th gen classic about a year and a half, or so, and I really like it.
I have owned two iPods in my life. The first was a fourth generation Shuffle, and the second a seventh generation Touch. With the latter came an Extraordinary Playlist with 177 songs, that I usually play on shuffle. Always something special to listen to your music with minimal interruptions…you did not have to worry about texts or calls coming in while listening on your iPhone, or advertisement breaks on third party streaming services like Spotify.
I have the iPod Touch 4th Generation and the iPod Touch 5th Generation with the iPod touch loop. I have lots of fond memories with them. For the first time ever, I had a touch screen in my hands. I loved having Cover Flow for all of my music, it was really neat flipping through all the albums.
I have an iPod Touch last Gen with 128gb which I got a great deal on a few years ago. While it is an iPhone w/o the phone, I have no social media on it, and I use Android so it never gets texts or many notifications. Strictly for enjoying music. Looks like I 'll hang onto it! RIP iPod
I never got the chance to get any iPod, but it still gives me nostalgia. A refurbished 1st gen iPhone SE is still a better purchase than a new iPod, though.
Mini 1st generation, Nano 4th gen, Touch 4th and 6th gen. Still remember wishing to be rewarded with an iPod for passing my college entrance exams back then. Guess this solidifies the iPhone as truly having absorbed the iPod, with the SE now being the most reasonable equivalent to an iPod Touch.
I haven't really used an iPod since high school. It's sad to see the end of an era for Apple. If you have an iPhone, you still technically have an iPod. RIP Apple iPod.
I still have my iPod Shuffle 3rd gen since 2010, and it was the best music player I used in my childhood. After that my first iDevice was the iPad Mini 1st gen on iOS 7.1.1 jailbroken purchased on 2013. I still have both of them to this day. Truly the most innovative pieces of technology ever made.

Actually fished out my old iPod touch 2nd Gen and iPod mini after hearing the news. It’s a bit sad hearing that they’re discontinued but I’m happy that I can still go back and make some use out of the old devices. The 2nd Gen was the first Apple device I had ever owned and introduced me into iOS which eventually led me to getting an iPhone 4 for Christmas one year. If it weren’t for iPod I might not have ever gotten into iOS or let alone Apple devices in general.
My 6th gen classic was amazing when I was in high school. I used it as a portable hard drive too. I filled up my 80gb with music (definitely not pirated at all) lol
Im going to miss the iPods they were the reason why i was able to get into social media. I might buy a iPod Touch 5 just to experience my first ever smart device
I had the Shuffle and it’s been completely, and accidentally, submerged in water because I accidentally washed it and dried it a couple of times and I saved something falling in a pool a couple times. It held up to water submersion as well as heat. That was a TOUGH little device… 🙃😮
I bought a used IPod Touch 7 last year just because it was going to be the last one sold. It joined my iPod Nanos and my IPod Touch 4. I use at least one of them every day.
RIP iPod, I wish it at least got a redesign. Or better, just a new life as a part of the AirPods. But seriously, imagine if AirPods 3 had the power of an iPod Shuffle, and an AirPods Pro 2 had the power of an entire iPod Touch?
R.I.P iPod 2001-2022 you were what got me in the Apple ecosystem to now wheee I use an iPhone 12 Pro and 7 plus yes I still got the iPod touch 7th generation not selling it or giving it up but its is nice to know I have a piece of history that’s now obsolete
When i was younger, i always wanted my own IPod… my first iPod was the 5th in purple and i still have it for music, games, videos and pictures etc. May iPod RIP, it’s always in my heart and i love the old memories 😭
I've only had two iPods in my life. Second one (which I got later but had a sadder story and does less) was an iPod nano 7, the old pink color. My mom gave it to me after she stopped using it, and I loved it. Screen broke, and stopped working properly, so it sat in a drawer for about a year before I attempted a repair on it. The repair failed (miserably) and I discarded it not long after the attempt. I still miss it. First one was an iPod Touch 4, 32GB "older" model. I was like, 5, when I bought it, I was saving up for the 8GB model and when I went to the store to buy it I just happened to have enough to buy the 32GB model. Loved it as a kid, it eventually went to a drawer for a while and when I pulled it out, I destroyed the screen on it by dropping it. Got the screen replaced, jailbroke it (first jailbroken device too, led to my jailbreaking my two A5 iPads and my iPhone 6s, all of which I eventually downgraded to some extent), and dualbooted iOS 7 on it for a time (was fun while it lasted, but when booting it once it corrupted the iOS 6 partition and I had to restore the iPod; haven't recreated the dualboot). Still works to this day, although it's at my secondary home. Edit: This was a long comment.
I’m kinda bummed they never made an iPod with a Bionic chip and at least 3gb of ram. Would’ve been able to run new iOS until at least 2026 right up there with the 2nd gen SE
I never had an iPod. My first product was an iPhone 6, and that basically was my “iPod”, especially in the car. My SUV at the time had a cassette player, and I had an old cassette adapter my older brother once used over 10 years earlier for his MP3 player in our minivan from that time. That cassette adapter introduced me to hands free calling and forever changed the way I answered phone calls while driving!
People underestimate how long iPods last. My iPod touch 4th gen with no repairs done to it still continues to work well with a solid battery when listening to music. It’s now 14 years old which is insane! I bring it to high school and I show it to people literally younger than it! Sure stuff like app support and online stuff doesn’t work but apple tech just doesn’t last that long anymore.
I still have an 8o gig and 180 gig filled to capacity with music. Haven’t synced in years but I have to constantly keep them charged. This is one of the greatest pieces of tech I ever purchased.
I remember buying my iPod Touch 5 when I was a little kid, it was my first Apple device ever, I was so proud of it and it got me into the Apple ecosystem, and it’s sad to see that iPod isn’t a thing anymore.
Well, there goes the last handheld apple product with a headphone Jack. Such a shame they never made a high powered music player with a dac designed for true hi-fi. It would have been a solid send off for the device that really brought awareness to this tech.
Got my first iPod in 2005 and never really looked back.. Me and my blue iPod mini.. it was kinda life changing really. We didnt have internet at home but we did have a blueberry iMac for music and photos - i would get friends to take my ipod and sync it to their libraries (if they had one!) or borrow cds to rip to the computer at home. Good times!

6:52 I wonder if that store is available in Canada
Bought one yesterday when I found out the news. I always liked the iPods despite what people say about them.
Rip iPod
October,23 2001-may,10 2022
I remember kids in 3rd grade having an iPod and showing it off like it was a phone
Fun fact: I bought a 6th Gen Nano to use it specifically as a watch. I absolutely love it despite it being only 4 years older than me.
I literally just used my 2001 iPod less than a week ago and this news was expected, yet still heartbreaking 💔
It’s so sad that Apple is discontinuing the iPod, one of the most innovative products of all time. RIP iPod 2001 - 2022😢🙁
When I seen this, I could hear dankpods’ cry all the way from Australia
i wonder if he’ll do a vid about it
iPod will be missed, I remember I got an iPod Touch 4th gen for my 6th birthday
R.I.P iPod 2001-2022 you were what got me in the Apple ecosystem to now wheee I use an iPhone 12 Pro and 7 plus yes I still got the iPod touch 7th generation not selling it or giving it up but its is nice to know I have a piece of history that’s now obsolete
Excellent work on the video. RIP ! Viva la iPod forever
I really wish they’d make iPhones with aluminum backs again, it felt nice to hold
iPod will never die.
i had an iPod Classic...
i missed that beast of a music player...
Rest in peace iPod. You’re still with us in spirit on our iPhones!👍🏼
Original shuffle 05 was my first
When i was younger, i always wanted my own IPod… my first iPod was the 5th in purple and i still have it for music, games, videos and pictures etc.
The I pod touch still makes sense if you want a dedicated music device or a device to give a kid for games and RUclips it's perfect
I knew you will make a video about this
I still have an 8o gig and 180 gig filled to capacity with music. Haven’t synced in years but I have to constantly keep them charged. This is one of the greatest pieces of tech I ever purchased.
I don’t really understand how it lasted this long it baffles me I haven’t seen of one these in years
The iPod Nano 3rd Gen was my first ever apple product I got in 2010 when I was 5. iPod will always be something I love
I remember buying my iPod Touch 5 when I was a little kid, it was my first Apple device ever, I was so proud of it and it got me into the Apple ecosystem, and it’s sad to see that iPod isn’t a thing anymore.
The music will live on! 😭😭
Good times!
Great videos as always , I have a Classic with lots of music .
I still remember the day I got my iPod touch I was weirdly really excited that I could sit on the toilet and surf the web at the same time😂
My childhood gizmo, iPod Nano 2nd gen.
