Really like your very individual and unique field easel - love that you painted it blue (my favorite color)! Great to watch for ideas for my own!

I'm glad it got you thinking. I recently made some improvements to the box, so much fun just experimenting.

This is a cool idea and your pochade box came out great 👍🏽 I might have to make one too

I like the whole concept. I'm still trying to come up with a set up that works for me. I have a dedicated plein air set up for oils, which unfortunately is still more cumbersome than I'd like. But I literally work with everything, although watercolour tends to be for the sketchbook, more than anything else.
But a kit where I can switch between Gouache, Acrylic, Pastel, Inks, is what I'm going to have for the spring. It's Canada, it's full winter now ( -10 this morning) , and we are in a full lock-down mode. So it's strictly studio work for now.
The only thing I might have done with yours, after you painted it - love the blue colour too, and before you assembled the pieces, would give it 2 or 3 good coats of clear varnish. Even a matte finish you wouldn't see ( or create any glare ), but given you're using it outside, it would likely stand up to the elements longer.
Great job though. There's a facebook page just for people building sketch easels, not sure if you've seen it. It was started by the absolutely brilliant James Gurney, who can do things with gouache I didn't even think were possible. Have a look : facebook.com/groups/403006076777641

      Hello!
I'm glad you enjoyed my mini-easel video. I have since made a major improvement which I really should film soon and post here on RUclips. The easel wasn't steady enough supported from under at one point ( the tripod). I bought 3 monopods and attached them with 3 brackets under the pleinair box. I then had to stiffen the 3 legs with a round lightweight table. It's hard to explain, I'll create a video. I'll try and do that next week.
I live in Sweden so it's pretty cold here too at the moment :) I usually sketch from my van when it's cold, only trouble is - it has been so grey for months which is just so uninspiring. I'm using my summer hoard of references photos to get me through the dull period. Can't wait for the sun to break through, colder weather or spring, either will do.
Thanks for the tip about the facebook group. James Gurney is certainly an inspiration to us all.
      Cheers,
      David

Nicely done. I love the blue, but wonder if the bright color throws off your color mixing, or if it is not an issue.

I actually haven't thought about the bright blue colour as a distraction so I guess it's not a problem. 🙂

Nice creation! Is you velcro self-stick? I've had trouble with hook and loop stuff wanting to come off from removing things from it's grab.

Sorry for this late reply to your question. Yes, the velcro is self-stick. I use it everywhere, it's the best thing since I don't know what. 😁

That is a pretty neat pochade box, do you use it only for watercolor?

What are those metal brackets called, used to attach the palette shelf? Could you provide your source for those? TIA!

Hi, To be honest with you I don't know what the brackets are called. I was just happy to have found them when I browsed the shelves at my local hardware store. ... I did a quick search and found "Table brackets", here is an ebay link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253916676824
      I hope this helps you.
