  • :) HERE'S A Wonderful Classic Movie for You called Only The Valiant ...Capt. Richard Lance is unjustly held responsible, by his men and girlfriend, for an Indian massacre death of beloved Lt. Holloway. Holloway is killed while escorting a dangerous Indian chief to another fort's prison. The chief escapes. Knowing their fort is in danger of Indian attack, Lance takes a small group of army misfits to an abandoned nearby army fort to defend a mountain pass against the oncoming Indian assault. Their mission is to stall for time until reinforcements from another fort arrive. The men in this small group of malcontents, deserters, psychopaths and cowards all hate Capt. Lance and wish him dead. Much to their chagrin, the men recognize that Lance's survival instincts, military knowledge and leadership are the only chance the group has of staying alive.

    I’m wondering if there are any leading men in movies today who may be comparable to Gregory Peck?
    What do you all think? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

      George Clooney (& Mel Gibson.) But many other actors/actresses COULD be mentioned if the media hadn't destroyed their image by uncovering every single thing they do or didn't do or was made up! And it depended on the film making as well. Too many sexual scripts destroyed the mystery behind the character & the man .....

      Half the reason we swoon is because the man actor is a man who is left to our imagination!

      When Marlon Brando did "Tango in Paris", I lost respect for him, let alone my parents! They went to see the movie & were thoroughly disgusted!

      @Terry Blanton youre insane .. peck was a very cordial if shy individual.. we used to live in hollweird and my company even owned a burbank studio to make commercials for our airlines.. we bought gene autreys airlines, hotels and studios..
      as far as hiding things.. the lefties hide as much as the righties did.. hollyweird used to be run by righties and there were as many looney righties then as lefties today.. and weinstein is one of a million who slept with actresses on the casting couch.. they did it and do it willingly.. they became millionaires.. they sold their souls..grow up..it was and is no secret.. and if people want to write 1000 separate comments..its none of your damm business

    I like watching these old classic my mother got me into them wen i was a child MY BROTHERS AND i USED TO SIT AND LISTEN TO HER COMENTARY ON THE ACTORS, AND WHO THEY MARRIED AND WHAT SHE KNEW OF THEIR LIVES, AND WHEN THEY DIED, SHE IS A dictionary of knowledge on many of these actors and actresses.
    I have her over to watch the classics and she enjoys so much seeing movies she never watched yet, she has a video library, of classics that would make even make you jealous, LOL .
    She is always shopping around for new ones, she doesn't have a computer and isn't about to see the need for one, she does it the old way, shopping at pawn shops and second hand stores and we also order her new ones on line,
    the pawn shops in our comunity are vertual video libraries, as there are no more video stores in our town, and the one that is in the next town, they rent videos but we have to have a master card or visa credit card, in order to rent, I guess too many people rented and didn't return.

  • @peace-now

    AT 20:09, this is presumably a detail. It consists of about 4 men and a prisoner. A detail would be about 100 strong led by a captain at least. Also, a lieutenant would not be in charge of such a small group - more likely a lance corporal. A captain is in charge of a troop, which is around 200 men, which would be a typical detail.

      Steven Grotte The world may never know ;) but from all the movies I've seen him cast in, I'd say he was quite husky.

    • @stevengrotte2987
      @stevengrotte2987 9 лет назад

      one4allfour1 I should have looked him up in Wikipedia before I asked the question, I just did that now, it said he was 6'2' and 220 lbs, didn't say when he was 220 but judging by the pictures I saw of him he may have been wearing shoulder padding,
      Looked to me that he would have had to go thru a normal door sideways.
      Not really important enough for me to wonder about------guess I am a little bored in my retirement.

    • @one4allfour1
      @one4allfour1  9 лет назад +2

      Steven Grotte But such an interesting topic! When I was little I used to watch Saturday morning scary movies, growing up in Detroit "Sir Graves Ghastly" was the host to these great movies. I remember watching him and thinking in my child's view that it looked like walking was hard for him because his upper-body seemed so huge! Haha :) Thanks putting things into perspective for me, finally ;)
      And congratulations on your retirement. I'm sad that you're bored, but do hope as the Seasons change you find even more interesting things to do, discover, learn and share with us!

I love keeping these Classic Movies in my small way, so I do thank you so much for your support! Have a great evening!

    Good acting, good war movie, if it had been set during the Civil War or on the Northwest Frontier of India. But, as Western, dumb as a stump. Nothing in the set-up makes any sense. There was never such a fortress in American history and never such a Indian menace. I expect they were trying to re-tell a story about the French Foreign Legion or the British in India and just wanted to sell it as Western.
