@@ThroughJermainesLens well compared to cameras smartphone footage can be a little trickier to edit as it typically has less dynamic range so there's less wiggle room when editing. But once you get dialed in smartphones can be very capable shooters.

With log and native 10bit this camera could actually be a beast in video. Its a shame not many make videos on it

@@farishanafiah8461 Yeah but thats the thing with phones people dont really dissect it like they do with bigger cameras. Like I get it that these phones can zoom and do macro and have pleasing looks on the main camera but how does it do with things like dynamic range? You know that ultra raw feature that boasts 16bit raws nobody talks about how it does or like see how far you can push and pull these things. I think its important to know. Im someone that really loves to push the dynamic range to its limits on my images sometimes so thats why i use a sony A7IV. Because sony and other creators where very forward on how much you can push its 15 stops of dynamic range.
So I guess the same could go for video no one really dissects these video features as well
You are right. And I guess for the fact that the price of this phone can get you a decent camera and nice zoom lens. but this makes a nice setup. compact
@@farishanafiah8461 but even then photography features on this phone are not chewed out compared to other cameras. Like they treat it like a typical phone instead of like a camera. Like I want to see how it does in dynamic range and pushing and pulling in low light situations

That was for a normal camera, and hand held is a fair way to showcase stability ^^
The DNG RAW from the Xiaomi 14 Ultra has more than 14 stops of dynamic range, which is a lot more than what you showcased here.
Hey Jermaine excited you are diving into the realms of video. I think you left out a little bit of context here like was this done natively or through a third party app etc. Otherwise this is all beautiful footage for someone who doesn't excel in this aspect. These phones are crazy powerful these days.

I'd be interested to know why the sky was white. Was it just cloudy? Did the raw vlog capture blue or white?
Even with colour grading if the sky wasn't blue there's no way to make it blue.
Decent amount if clouds, like it had patches of blue coming through if that makes sense?
@@ThroughJermainesLens Yes. Ok so maybe there's a way to recover some of that blue through colour correction on the LOG?
I tried that, playing around with the highlights for instance and not much got back, but I should have recorded a bit better in terms of brightness, was too focused on the goose, so didn't take enough time to take the shot

Great job! Was the first part of the video, where you are talking, also made with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra? I ask because I still wonder about its depth of field and background blur, without using the "Cinematic" digital feature. What do you have to say about the background blur ability in videos with this cell phone?
Thank you! And no, that is taken on the Canon R8:) and blur is hard with the main sensor and will be more a thing on close up shots, the sensors are simply too small for more:)

Any idea what thr bitrate is on the log footage? I feel that's often one of the differences between say phone footage and a proper camera. I wish android phones had more options when it comes to codecs and bitrates

Hello, we need to know can it shoot 4k 60 LOG on all lenses!? That is the information that noone tells?
All premium flagship phones should have HLOG support as standard. There's no point spending more than $1,000 on a smartphone if you aren't heavily daily driving the processor and the camera.
I am of the opinion that no matter how sophisticated some smartphones are, to get cinematic video footage you need a gimbal. This Xiaomi model has never completely convinced me. Anyway thanks and congratulations for the choice of the soundtrack 😏👍
yeah that is fair hahaha, I have pretty stable hands, but limited reach for lower shots making it hard to be stable and zoom.

I tried to use LOG with my 14 ultra and I can't bring the colors to look any good. What sort of LUT did you use to convert LOG to Rec709? Also, did you also struggle with the variable frame rate while trying to edit the clips? I find it unfortunate. Providing feature such as LOG while having to constantly convert the footage into constant frame rate seems irracional.
So this was 30fps, I didn't find any realy frame differences in the recording. That being said, it could be that i would have that oon 60 fps because of course it taking more computing power! And yeah it's not easy. I am new to editing this kind of stuff. I know how to "shoot" just not how to get that nice style yet, that requires time and experience!
With an ND filter and 60fps at 1/2 speed it would look even more awesome !

No 60FPS log
Mcpro24fps Log is actually putting a Log curve on top of the processed footage by they API. So it isn't particularly good. Plus it is terrible on anything that is less than 10bit.

It's too contrasty and details are lost in highlights and shadows. I personally didn't like the result as much as my results testing LOG. Using basic camera's video settings brings more pleasing results.
Fair enough, though to be fair, I am new in LOG recording and how to properly work with it. And for the contrasty look, it's something I often like hahaha, but I do get what you're saying there!
I think it needs a little more polarising filter to get more color definition

Thanks to your video, I bought the Nubia z60 ultra 2 months ago and I appreciate it, but don't you have a video about the Xiaomi 13 ultra? I want to buy a cell phone for photos and another for work, in this case the I plan to buy the Xiaomi 13 ultra because for my work I use the Nubia, now I am looking for a better camera, however I refuse to pay 1000 euros or more for a Xiaomi 14 ultra, s24 ultra or a vivo x100Ultra, compared to the Xiaomi 13 ultra which would cost me about 600 euros, I need your great help as a good photographer 🙏🙏🙏🙏
sadly I only have had a very limited experience with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, when it comes to my Xiaomi contact it is poor for some reason. Do not know why sadly, but it makes it hard to cover those kind of phones. If I didn't buy the 14 Ultra it probably wouldn't have been on my channel as well.

And honestly the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is nice, but I do think that the telephoto on the 13 Pro is nicer, it has a better approach.

The quality looks dreadful, as if the bitrate is really far too low. Nothing against you here by the way, I am purely commenting on the video quality itself. Do you know what bitrate it it out the camera app?
Could be export format technically hurting it a bit. But will comment tomorrow if i do not forget what the bitrates are. If i do this stuff in the future is that something you want to see as detail on top of the footage?
I think it would be interesting to see the original bitrate of both the 30 and 60fps output from the camera. Technically to keep the same visual quality from 30fps to 60fps the bit rate needs to double, but I'm willing to bet it doesn't. You might be interested to try mcpro24 FPS also which has an adjustable bit rate setting. In scenes with a lot of movement in the image (for example grass moving in the wind) it can make a huge difference. Also, it's quite expensive but if you want the ultimate quality it's worth checking out motioncam. That one records true raw footage, in actual log format, in the same way a high end camera can

Thanks very much. That definitely explains things. 40mbit is far too low! I wonder what the bitrate is if the normal 4k 60 non log. I should imagine it's higher. I'm not sure why motioncam would give you strange colours but it does keep getting updates so might be worth another look. You could also try the both options, raw and real time recording. Maybe one would work better than the other
Ever since I got Motioncam that is all I shoot with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. 14Bit DNG RAW is simply amazing.
I tried that, my result is in LOG and RAW a purple footage. 3 times over sadly

@@ThroughJermainesLens At the moment the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the BEST smartphone for Motioncam according to the software developers from Motioncam.
@@ThroughJermainesLens To take full advantage of what Xiaomi 14 Ultra can do on Motioncam you need to root your Xiaomi 14 Ultra and install a couple of mods which give you functionality such as controlling the aperture of main sensor in third party apps as well as 14bit mode. Direct Log is a good option if the best imagine quality isn't required, but it takes more real time processing power. DNG RAW will give you the best image quality and flexibility in post, but will take up a lot of hard drive space. But if you use an external hard drive or if you constantly dump your footage after every shoot, then it should not be a problem at all.

Oh man, that is so damn hard! Xiaomi I like in feel better then Vivo, but vivo has a bit more freedom in things like sharpness control and saturation, so I have that freedom Xiaomi doesn't have on a quck sport, apart from it being in Manual, which is the only way you can control those things.
For vivo it is in auto as well. And vivo has the better dynamic range. So for me to say which is better it seriously depends on the situation of the shot.
