Curious to hear a side-by-side comparison (in the same cab, same amp, same settings) between these speakers and the WGS Veteran 30's. They also have a tight low end, broad (rounded-off) mids and non-spikey highs.
@@TommyMartinezTube I run Veteran 30’s in all my combo amps and cabs, except for my original 1999 Mesa Rev-G Triple Rec halfstack. The matching 1999 280w cab w/ the original 1999 UK-built V30’s is just magic.
Wanted to say…your channel is VERY good Kyle. I hear some self-deprecating which can be funny, but I wanna make sure you know this is a rock solid place for the high-gain content. Nice cuts back and forth, great lighting/color, great resolution, insane wall of amps…you have a lot of things going right imo. Don’t sell yourself short! You do great work.
Kyle, I really appreciate your opening of the cab and discussing the construction, as well as what you pointed out about the relationship between headroom, tight bass and extended range. Keep up the great spec work. Bringing consumers' attention to quality features raises the standard for manufacturers and can drive both value and innovation🤘
😂you just described my very rare, old, 20 watt green backs special made in 1991. They are the very first reissue speakers I think called "vintage series" but yeah they do that and they are the best speakers I've ever used into the best amp I've ever used, the EVH STEALTH 50 watt head unit.
Speakers sound great. The brace inside looks solid. This is important to keep that bass whomping sound that some cabs have when the brace is cheap or nonexistent. If you dig a tight bass punch, OS cabs are the way to go. I dig my Krank Cab for that reason. Plus, the brace is solid in that cab as well.
Oh, it's made by Fane! They make nice speakers, so I hear. This sounds good, but a lot of things can sound good in a vacuum. Being able to put it up against something like a Vintage 30 directly would really show us what we're listening to. The title of the video is funny though, since speakers have such a large impact on the tone that it's really up to personal preference. I found out that I like Creambacks. 🤷
@TheOtherJohnBrowne made a great IR pack of this speaker. It doesn't replace V30's completely, but in cases when you need a more open sound instead of the nasally mid-range of the V30, the LCFR-150 is perfect! The low-end also seems much tighter than in the V30.
tighter? from the IR that JB made, it's definitely a bigger low-end than a V30. Fatter. One of the things I hate about v30s is the lack of a solid low-end--it's pretty much all mids. They sucked ass in the new Soldano 412 I bought last summer (they should've stayed with the Eminence Legends!), and were just OK in the Mesa Traditional I bought this past Winter. V30s record easy, but I absolutely cannot stand them live.
Speaker demo vids are always difficult but this thing sounds awesome. Props to you Kyle for also opening up the cab and showing the inside. I've been looking for the perfect speaker to go with a Celestion Redback in my 2x12 cab (oversized Zilla Fatboy, ENGL Invader 150 amp) and this might be it. Looking forward to hearing it in my rig. Also, I'm a Lichtlaerm fanboy so slightly biased lol.
I've owned a few Krankenstein's amps over the years, and that's what keep coming to mind as I listen to this. Especially with the 5150. Something about those mids.
My first loud amp, a Ross solid state combo, had a Fane speaker. It sounded good with overdrive. I'd use a small Peavey and a Boss Turbo Overdrive to push it into crunchland. Worked well. I remember Fanes came stock in Laney AOR combos and sounded very good.
If you like the swamp, try the Fane 65's. They're better than the creambacks if you're about taming the ice picks. They were sold through AVATAR, don't know if they sell them direct
for the 900, it'd make a great pairing speaker/cab for reamping. The 900 with this cab and speaker, paired with the usual v30 Mesa OS cab on an EVH 5150 III, would probably sound MASSIVE for double tracking, whether for a single guitarist stereo imaged, or for two guitars.
I have a rectifier and a 5150 so have a great reference for those, and it sounded good. But damn if it didn’t sound best with the Matching amp. Go figure!
I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a guitar cabinet built to look like a nice piece of furniture, an end table or coffee table or something, put some decorative feet on it and make it look really nice so it could double as a toy for me and a gorgeous piece of furniture for my better half to be proud of lol
Celestion does have a speaker in this category, and it's the Red Back. I find myself being more of an eminence guy, overall, but those Red Backs are nice... IMO these LCFR speakers are voiced halfway between the Red Back and the DV-77, approximately, so they sound really good. That's just based off the video already put out by TheOtherJohnBrowne. It's not for everyone, or for every tone, but it's an improvement from the standard fare, much like the other recent speakers that have dropped into the zeitgeist lately from Eminence, WGS, MojoTone, et al.
Oh yeah! 150 watts is so damn huge! What a monster!! Sounds great too. Now I'm wondering when my guy is going to grab up some of those new Avatar speakers and give us a killer demo!!
Would like to know the exact measurements of the cab. It does sound pretty good I really like the baritone. Seems to have a lot more upper mids than most. And yes the bass is super tight. Super modern sounding.😊
As far as the IR that @theotherjohnbrowne put out, I think it's gonna be a V30 killer, just as the Demon and the DV77 have gotten their due as being. Listening on good headphones, V30s almost always sound like shit to me. It's a tiny little low-end and there's a really nasty frequency in there that just kills me--maybe somewhere around 6k. Not a fan of that speaker whatsoever. I like my speakers dark, smooth and with a big ol' low end.
listening on some pretty good speakers, i do like it but wow it has a big peak 2 3 kish, especially on the baritone. i'd love it as a 2nd amp channel but lacks top end detail so couldnt be the main mix amp for me
I miss not having the high mid spike from the LCFR-150. After trying the DV-77, I felt that was too boomy as well. Hesu Demon is my favorite speaker and The Eminence CV-75.
I knew before I heard it that this thing would be absolutely nasty with the Rectifier, due to how Rectifiers tend to have that fizzy top end. This speaker just smooths that out, and brings out a gnarly grinding in the low mids. It sounded best in my opinion, and I'm not usually a big fan of the Rectifier sound, prefer the 5150 and SLO100. My current heavy sound is a Soldano model with a Marshall model blended through Celestions own V30 IRs. I don't like Marshalls on their own for heavy stuff, too midrangey and not enough gain, but blended with a proper firebreathing modern amp, it brings a certain grinding, guttural edge into the tone. Adam Jones famously blends a Marshall, a Boogie, and a Deitzel. Three amps that couldn't be more different. Together they make something super thick.
Very nice speaker! I like it best with the 5150, but the Prometheus is its own thing for sure. I will be curious to see if and when they make 16ohm version
We’ll all around on our socials soon! I’d there’s enough interest we’ll do a 16 Ohm version as well - the MOQs on a custom speaker are quite high, tho!
Everybody here, if funds don’t allow for these and you have access to a decent bass cabinet, the bass cabinet will provide a similar sound. Bass speakers give you more mids, and less scratchy high.
No😂 The speakers that come in that amp are designed for that amp. If you want to replace speakers put some celestion 7080 and it should be very similar to the tone from these fane speaker's but still use all the tones and features plus the effects will sound good still with 7080.
I need to change speakers in my early 1980's Marshall JCM 4x12 cab. Yikes!! It would be cheaper to buy a brand new speaker cab than change out the speakers.
No matter how may speakers I play through, all of my amps sound perfect through EVM12l's. I have a 1x15 Mesa with an EVM15L and it is GREAT with a fender amp and 6 string.

I have, the V30 is a bit brighter and has more mid edge content. The C90 is a bit darker and way tighter with a scooped mid range. The C90 likes 100 watt amps no problem and seems to need the power to get moving😂
